| blocked people...viewing me? Posted: 10/21/2007 3:19:04 PM |
POF really needs to step up to the plate and allow people to completely block people they don't want viewing us let alone contacting us. Blocking is blocking and should apply all the way across the board.
Would have no real effect. Stalkers would simply surf PoF via any of thousands of available anonymous public proxies or from other computers. The only way to ensure that you will not be stalked, followed, harassed or harangued on the Net is to remove yourself from the Net. You can mitigate such behaviours by creating new accounts, removing public photos, and so forth. But in the final analysis, it is not the responsibility of the operators of these communities to assist in mitigating abhorrent behaviour, especially when it would be (generally) ineffective.
In addition, sites which use a heavy hand in policing their communities actually open themselves up to greater potential legal liability. A site which has a policy of non-interference cannot be held to be negligent. However, a site which polices the community intermittently or haphazardly can be found to be negligent; there's ample case law in the US where sites have been held liable for the actions of their users, but never when they have a hands-off approach.
I guess what I'm trying to say is this: there are a lot of freakshows online. To avoid them, keep yourself hidden from them. Do not expect the community operators to do it for you. Best of luck.

| blocked people... Posted: 12/28/2007 1:39:02 PM | I know that this has been talked to death, however, what I'd like is not so much block a user. But, Block *me* from seeing their profile.
For example I'm surfing along POF, I see a profile I might like I view it, it turns out to be either not what it initially appeared, *or* the person has in the body of their profile stipulations that render me contacting them useless.
So if there was a 'REMOVE' this user from my Matches, Searches, Browsing etc., it would narrow my search path, and avoid disturbing others.
e.g. If I did a search and the user changed their profile picture and I once again clicked on that picture thinking it was a new profile only to find that I had already clicked on their prior picture and found back then that the profile was not a match, I could have saved a bit of time and aggravation for both. "What! Him again!" lol
I also realize this may take some drive space to accomplish, perhaps we could limit the 'REMOVE' function to 1024 or less POF users. I am sure all it would take is one byte to store the 'REMOVE' flag
Just a thought.

Thanks!

| blocked people... Posted: 3/15/2008 10:53:50 AM | how do you get touch with the person that blocked you so they can unblock you? wouldn't be much of a point to the blocking feature if you could still get a hold of them, now would there?
Am I SOL??? somewhat - get a friend to contact him, if you think it was a mistake.

| blocked people... Posted: 4/1/2008 11:47:50 AM | I apologize if this was covered but I couldn't find it anywhere.
If I sent someone a message, and it showed up in sent messaged. Then it showed up in sent messages as read, but when I came back the message was gone from sent messages, does that mean they blocked me?
Thanks. | |

| No. Once they are gone from your Inbox, they are permanently gone, no Record or Trace left of them. |

Hopefully she didn't delete them.

| View Mail from a Blocked User Posted: 4/14/2008 2:07:27 PM | Will the Sent Mail still have copies of the original messages provided they are replies made with the Reply function instead of Send Yup, gone too. You'll notice only a thin Blue Line left around the Message Header Field above the Messages in the First Contact History that used contain the Reply Quote.

| View Mail from a Blocked User Posted: 4/17/2008 5:04:30 PM | I agree with previous posters who indicated a need to block the image of certain *rude and obnoxious* members. It's kinda creepy when a creepy guy's foto shows up especially when he is of the creepiest mean and rude variety...I suspect that many of the females complaining have been contacted by the same wierdo...
Please put me on the list for notification when this feature is available!!!
Thank you!! | |

Thanks, JJ
Sorry I just looked at another email and it is there. I guess you just can't block mass emails from one person in particular? It's not at the bottom of the mass email is all.

| View Mail from a Blocked User Posted: 7/6/2009 9:22:40 PM | If you're referring to the events messages that are sent out, then you have to opt out of them through your mail settings.
This email was sent because you are within 10k of the event or are signed up to it. If you do not want emails like this disable party emails in your mail settings.
This should show within the message, with a direct link for you to remove yourself from the mailout.
Hope that helps, ~mizz | |

| Profile: How do I stop users from wronfully reporting me. Posted: 10/20/2009 9:05:50 PM | How can I stop users from wrongly reporting me?
I block a certain user and they told be that they are going to hit the "report" button at the bottom of my profile so that I will get my account deleted. How can I show Marcus that these women are trying to get even for me blocking them?
