Net shutting down

It says there is an error with my "ndd.dll" application.

... has no bearing on ...

When I go from forums to messages the net says there is an error and shuts me down then I have to log in again.

... since the "Norton Disk Doctor" module has no bearing on the Internet.

It happens also when I send messages or click post here on forums.?????

Browser Corruption/Malware ... likely within another "Messaging Application" running on your computer such as MSN, ICQ, etc. Sometimes they continue to run in the background even after you have shut them off, but you can kill them off via the "Task Manager".

Shut them all off, then log back onto POF, see how that goes.

I have sp1 installed with IE6.0 but still it crashes. I think POF should email everyone how to resolve this problem step-by-step as lots of people seem to be having the same problem.

Thanks,

I'm another person that's having this problem. I know of two others that haven't checked the forums for idea's. I don't know alot about computers and I'm pretty sure neither do my two friends. I read the forums and can't even tell if any of the suggestions are helping the problem. Could we get a idiot proof, step by step on how to fix this, if anybody knows how to?

It seems to me some client-side script runs in a timer that causes the IE to crash and new win update apparantly blocks this script to run which for some reason screw up the whole application....Not sure if POF is Ajax-based...if it relies heavily on client-side script then lowering the security settings might help, but this is definitely not the best solution...

K, I've gotten around the problem for the moment, I loaded another browser. Foxfire doesn't seem to have the problem.

I've noticed the same problem the last few days.
I haven't recently updated, nor have I changed any settings.
I thought it might be the IM box.
At times when I'm in inbox and logged in I'll slip out to Forums using the same window, then click Inbox to return to my profile to check email.
There are times that someone has messaged while I was in Forums...the IMs do not show unless your actively in your profile...or this has been my experience. Often an IM will open instantly on my return to my profile. This week I have found that at times...NOT always...on my return from Forums back into my profile is when I'm noticing I get an error and IE closes down.
I know that changes have been made to advertising on the IM window again, and assumed that it had to do with part of the problem of the crashes...something in the changes to that box. It's only started in the last few days. PoF is the only site I'm having troubles with.

As well, I'm unable to open profiles by clicking on the picture or name from the userplane IM window since the advertising has begun again.

There are so many better, free browsers out there. Why not just download one of those? I'm using Opera, no problems. Firefox is widely touted as the best browser available. I only use IE when the occasional site I come across doesn't support Opera.

Go on... try it. opera.com or firefox.com

Go here, download and install: Adobe Flash Player Download Center

If you get an error message when installing the newest Flash Player, search for and delete --> FLASH8B.OCX from your Hard Drive or download and install Flash Player Uninstaller, re-boot, then try to re-install it again.

I believe this is the problem.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923762/en-us

Microsoft says they will have a fix in a few days.

Can anyone test it?

when exactly is this new patch going out from Micro soft?

Micro soft scares me now, haha. If your computer is all messed up cause of micro soft and there lil mistake, you should send them the Bill, for the repairs done to the computer that they caused. Just a suggestion..

Does that mean I can delete the internet explorer program? Do I need that now that I have firefox?

I deleted IE, and don't miss it at all. The only issue that may come up is if you try to upgrade/update something from the microsoft site. It won't work (or won't work well) unless you use IE.

You could always set Firefox as your default browser, and leave IE to rot.

At work, we're not permitted to apply patches to the OS or Browser, so until they install the patch, the "work around" in this link posted by Admin, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923762/en-us worked just fine

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, follow these steps:

1. Start Internet Explorer 6.
2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options, and then click the Advanced tab.
3. In the Settings box, click to clear the Use HTTP 1.1 check box under HTTP 1.1 settings, and then click OK.

read the post above yours, and message 37 - try them out. If you're not a tech whiz, the above doesn't require any expertise, just follow the 3 steps and let us know.

Well my computer crashed completely after all this and locked me out - took it to be looked at and it had to be reconfigured - lost all my files and saved pics - since I didn't have a CD burner on this computer and didn't send it to my other computer for safe keeping - all was lost. I will learn not to procrastinate at saving to CD now.
Thanks for trying to help gang!!!

After posting that I haven't had a problem using the Opera Browser it started happening to me too. I guess I should have kept my mouth shut (so to speak). I recently installed an ad blocker and it hasn't happened since (although by saying so I probably just jinxed it). It's already been suggested that the ads may have something to do with it so anyone still having problems may want to try the ad blocker solution.

I'm amazed microsoft has still not fixed it.

I Can add a couple of lines of code and take over peoples machines, that is how serious the bug is. Anyone surfing the net with this installed is just asking for trouble.
