| How many languages do you know besides English? Posted: 4/11/2005 6:58:03 PM | I spent 3.5 years in Europe and, as a result, my French (Parisian, not Canadian) is pretty damn good*. Polish was better than conversational (ale juz jest bardzo slabo); and mein Deutsch ist nicht so gut.
I'm told that my English is luculent and far from contemnible.
* Good enough to know the difference between "damn good" and "fluent". Lots of people like to throw around that word but usually sound like they're reading from textbooks.

Posted: 2/7/2009 6:23:32 PM | I know a smattering of Spanish(enough to meet, greet, get drunk, get laid), same w/ French(almost all the same as Spanish), a couple of Italian insults, a phrase or two in Japanese and Chinese. I know what my real name means in 4 different languages. The one I do the best w/ at times though is dead, that's Latin.
Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes - Essentially it says, 'if you can read this, you're overeducated.'

| How many languages do you know besides English? Posted: 2/7/2009 9:26:11 PM | I can speak American english (How YOU doin'?), Southern english (y'all), UK english (petrol, litre, colour, ta-ta, grey earl tea) Australian (Oz, seppo, No worries mate, goodonya, vegemite) and Canadian (eh?). Ok, I know, not original but people seem to beat me to the punch! Darn!!
I took french in high school and college but never learned to speak it. I can read very simple French and because of that I can pick up a few words of Spanish. I can count to 10 in French, Spanish, German, Japanese and Latvian. And have also picked up a few hand gestures.
Seriously, I wish I could speak another language, especially Spanish. It seems that more and more secretarial jobs want someone bilingual with English and Spanish.
