| Do you drive an SUV and why? Posted: 11/11/2006 12:34:50 AM | I drive a front wheel drive car that thinks it is an SUV. Mainly it was the only vehicle I could get at the time (long story) but the biggest reason for my choice in vehicles is the ease in which I can get in and out. I have issues with both legs so if I can just sort of fall out of the car the better. I also need to make sure that I can fit a wheelchair in it for the times I have to use it. Other times I am hauling heavy loads though if I had a regular car I may not be hauling such heavy loads so that is not the determining factor. I prefer 4WD but I don't have a reason for needing or using 4WD anymore. If I had it I would probably spend more time in places where I would need it though. I guess you could say tools influence my decision on some things that I do in my life. BTW, I seem to hate FWD...if there is no weight in the back it is all over the place like pick-up trucks.
I would be just as happy with a car if I could find one that fit all my needs. Some of the newer ones that came out these past two years may do the trick.

| Do you drive an SUV and why? Posted: 11/11/2006 11:26:19 AM | LOL, just bought one yesterday. I know-I know. Gas prices!
Do you know what it is like to drive at night with 75% of the vehicles having headlights blasting in your eyes. I suffer from night blindness, and am tired of being blinded by the masses. LOL Their lights were too high !
And on a more sensible note, I have two very large dogs. I just got rid of a 1994 Nissan Sentra, two door. Horrible experience getting one of my girls in there. And it could only be one, as two just didnt fit in that back seat. Now they will have plenty of room to travel together. Also safer on the winter roads. I hate driving in the winter. So a little peace of mind each morning when I head out to work. My SUV is a four cylinder, so hopefully the gas use, wont be too bad, too soon to know yet.
I am suffering from a little buyers remorse, I admit. It was nice to have a vehicle that got 32 miles to the gallon, and now I have a car payment. Glad I went with a used one. And I sure hope that the gas prices dont go back up.
Lucky for me, I do not do alot of unecessary driving.

we don't have snow removal, we don't have drainage and we don't have lit roads.
anything smaller is suicide.

SUV's may be gas guzzlers, but their 4-wheel drive all-terrain make and the ability to hold just as much or more is going to replace the ugly minivan models soon. I see more people prefering SUV's over minivans and that's because also of their manuevering capability, which is a lot higher. You ever try to take a Geo on a campout in the steep mountain slopes? It's not a pretty sight until you get an SUV capable of handling the job.

I have several kids, haul equipent, dirt bikes ,4 wheelers, off road on road, camp and have no qualms about having to go out in a blizzard. She even swims pretty good when crossing brooks n small rivers.and I'm pretty sure a neon isn't gonna do most of that lol. its also paid for and I'm not looking to go in debt to calm other's fear of me being percieved as a global threat. I do recycle though....

| Do you drive an SUV and why? Posted: 12/28/2006 10:33:53 PM | I dont drive an SUV (unless you take the name Sport Utility literally, instead of the overgrown station wagons) but I will never give up my trucks. I have 2 F-250's, one is a 2WD regular cab, and the other is a 4WD extended cab. You want to talk gas milage? Both are right about 10-15 MPG...on a good day....But I do need them to do the things that I do. A small car isnt going to haul a load of steel, or some of the parts and other stuff that I am always transporting. It certainly isnt going to pull a trailer with one of my trucks on it, or a piece of construction equipment. Yes, I do own a few cars too, but I would much rather be driving one of the trucks. Oh, and for fun....I take another truck on 38" Boggers out to the forest and ride the trails for a weekend, or go beat on it all day at a mud bog. | |

| Do you drive an SUV and why? Posted: 1/1/2007 2:04:55 AM | no SUV....but i do own a dodge truck bc i haul stuff in the back a lot....and also to tow my jeep to go wheelin....id much rather tow the jeep with a truck instead of an expedition or explorer...mainly bc that just isnt safe | |

| Do you drive an SUV and why? Posted: 12/11/2007 8:26:51 PM | I drive a smaller SUV. Which is more like a car anyway. I can understand the trend in recent years of having the biggest baddest most expensive car on the road..but it's just status and fashion. I would rather spend the extra dollars on something that doesn't depreciate as much or waste fuel and gives you more value in terms of fun. Maybe a camper or a boat. You don't need a 7.3 ltr turbo deisel truck to pull a half tonne trailer, pick the kids up from school or commute for that matter. Get the junk off the road and carpool people! | |

| Do you drive an SUV and why? Posted: 12/12/2007 11:23:38 PM | Nope. I have a 2006 Prius. I test drove a coworker's and loved it and that sealed it for me. I have no regrets (which is probably saying something considering it was between a Prius and a BMW 325xi). It's just a bonus that I get 46 mpg. Especially considering I drive 125 miles round trip for work. | |

| Do you drive an SUV and why? Posted: 12/13/2007 5:08:37 AM | I do not own an SUV, but I have been considering buying one. My reason is that I am a musician and I need to carry a lot of equipment such as instruments, speakers, stands, etc. that will not fit in most cars. Besides if I were to buy a station wagon to do the same job, I have to take into consideration that their are few station wagons left in my price range. I am not a person who likes to spend bundles on a vehicle, so an Audi or a Volvo are out of the question. I don't know of any new American made station wagons besides the Dodge Magnum which is both overpriced and gets crappy gas mileage, so if that were the rout that I wanted to take, I would probably be stuck with something like a 1995 Buick Road Master. And if you think SUV's get poor gas mileage, try buying gas for that Road Master. Besides, it's not like Ford, Lexus, and Chevrolet don't offer hybrid SUV's.
If you think that SUV's get poor gas mileage, I think you are leaving trucks out of the equation. If you were to compare an SUV to a truck similar in size, 9 times out of 10 the truck will get fewer miles per gallon.

| Do you drive an SUV and why? Posted: 12/13/2007 9:28:13 AM | | I did find it amusing to see several SUVs in ditches around here...as I cruised by them in my Corolla during our last storm. Too often, the owners think they're immune to the effects of snow and ice, and drive too fast...usually with predictable results. However, they're great for moving house, or a load of lumber from the hardware store. | |

| Do you drive an SUV and why? Posted: 12/13/2007 6:47:21 PM | No I dont drive an SUV, though I do find them very appealing! SUV's are expensive, so they are out of my price range, and not only that.. the price of gas is just out of this world.
Pick-up trucks are nice to.. SEXY in fact..well I think anyway! Anyone else agree??
Now, if I could just find a cute guy with a pick-up or SUV... heheeheee!

| Do you drive an SUV and why? Posted: 12/13/2007 6:50:11 PM | | I own a 05 tahoe, I like it I paid for it and I really do not care what anyone else thinks about it- my comment is to those people who say that our SUVS tahe up to much room in the parking lot- have you looked at the smaller cars parked in the lots you are complaining about? Hmm double parked or one inch from the line- but they b*tch about it when they get a ding? I paid way to much for my mine and i park in lala land to keep the smaller less cared for cars from dinging me. As for all the people complaining about green house effect and envirorment--- how many of you have biodegradeable nonarosal cleaning supplys in you cubbards? Yeah I bet you do anyway let me get off my rant. but to th ot I have never backed in to anything nor anyone, i will admit to it being possable to not see little ones if they got back there without you seing them but i do not see it being a greater risk in an suv vrs a car. As any responceable driver should be aware of there surrounding area esp. when around childrens schools, (lets not get into idiots on there cell phones & driving when said people cant walk & chew gum at the same time). | |

| Do you drive an SUV and why? Posted: 12/13/2007 8:27:01 PM | | I drive a Dodge 4x4 Pickup Long bed with High Output Cummins and 6 speed. My play trucks (4) are also diesel 4x4's. I get 20.x to 22.x MPG on Interstate driving with my daily driver. My trucks will take me anyplace I want to go both on and off road, mud or snow. I dont have to justify a gas guzzler, I dont own any. If a Rice Burner wants to hit me, I WIN ! People with little cars dont like the larger vehicles. They look out their back window and see my front bumper LOL When I pass them, my German Shepherd looks out the window down at them LOL. Little cars should be outlawed, they are a death trap ! | |

| Do you drive an SUV and why? Posted: 12/14/2007 4:04:23 AM | | No SUV, I have an 03 Dakota quad cab 4x54 , which gives me 4 person seating when I need it and a usuable box. I looked at Sport Tracs, but they are more of an SUV pretending to be a truck. I like my truck because it's a smaller one so it's a bit easier on gas than a full size. I also have an 03 celica which is my fun summer car for zipping around, but alas, it stays safe and sound in the garage all winter. It's more of a tobaggon in the winter. | |
