| Dogs best judge of character or not?
Posted: 8/19/2006 7:43:34 AM | Hell yea - I think animals have more common sense than we do sometimes or, better intuition anyway.
My - big as a house and always joined to my hip pooch - some people can come to my house once and if he "accepts" you, then he's cool when you come back in that he's not barking....... and there are others - no matter how many times they come to my door, and have been to my house before........ he barks at them everytime like some rabid out of control wild animal.............. funny, how it all comes around later....example........ recently ......one of the frequent callers - an acquaintenance of my son........turned out to be the neighbourhood thief..........others have turned out to be bad boyfriends......and puppy knew best............
I figure if your crotch survives getting thru my doorway - then there just may be a second date................. hee-hee-hee
Dogs - yep - they definately can be our silent common sense..............

well, I do know that's a vitamin deficiency of some sort ....... but it does make you question some of their senses at times ...............

The Navajo word for dog means shite eater! I don't remember seeing anything about a vitamin deficiency though. | |

This thread reminded me of an early date with my ex. Her friends had an old border collie that kept putting his head between us on the couch and growling. It was kind of funny at the time, but maybe he was trying to warn me! He knew her a whole lot better than I did. I'm kind of wish I had followed his advice.

The trainer had those of us who would be swimming with them sit on the edge of the dock and have the dolphins come to us before he would allow us in the water. The reason, he said, was that if the dolphins sense that you're a****head, they won't come to you. I asked if it had ever occurred that the dolphins would refuse to swim with someone and he told me, that yes, it happens fairly regularly, and that the dolphins are usually right - the ones they refuse to come to are people the trainer had pegged as ***holes when they came in. Fortunately, they did allow me to swim with them, and the experience was a highlight of the trip. That and my kidnapping, but that's another story. | |

They seem to be able to sense personality as well as the family hierarchy. Case in point, both dogs hung on my every word, when I spoke, they acted, however anytime my dad would visit, they were just as attentive if not more to his voice. I guess that since they are pack animals, they always know who is the "Alpha". Secondly, one night I came home from work early (I usually work graveyard shift), and went to bed. I was awakened to hear the rotti growling at the back door. I got up to see my ex's daughter's boyfriend trying to get in the door, but the dog seemed to know he wasn't supposed to be there, and wouldn't let him in! Such a good dog! lol | |

Posted: 11/23/2006 10:48:00 AM | Well given my pup is a big boy, and very much a mama's boy, he still remains receptive but cautious of my dates in that he'll keep one eye open at all times just to remind them that he's around. Yet I've seen times where the fur on his back stands up and he plants right against my leg when I answer the door. They know, trust them.
If he just plants himself between you two, then it's just jealousy and should pass in time. If however, he's going for the crotch with all teeth barred everytime the guy walks in the door, I'd say kick the guy to the curb hon, puppie knows best ..... !!!

With a dog you always know where you stand.
Once you get past the greeting, they treat you like they've known you for years.
They don't bite nearly as often or have moody moments.
And they like to lick a lot !!
(Oh and they'll roll on their back and let you rub their tummy within minutes of meeting you)

My dog barked at him from the moment he walked in............then was growling.............and just wouldn't be quite and move from my side. She had never done this before and to be honest I trusted her instinct.
I literally had to ask him to leave because she wouldn't stop. Of course I appologized for it and things ended shorty after. Why she was behaving like that I will never know. | |

Posted: 8/24/2007 7:09:56 PM | Dogs are not the best character judges. I aughta know, I are one and I've made plenty of character mistakes: number one. Number two: YOUR friends won't steal from you but your DOG'S friends will. Case in point: had a friend who was also friends with my dog. Discovered one day he'd been breaking into my apartment thru a window, eating my food, smoking my cigarettes, and stealing my money! Number three: if there's ANYTHING out of the ordinary to the DOG'S perseption, he will exraordinarily react. Last but not least: you are the dog's 'pack' and the dog is very perseptive to the 'pack' and will pick up on subtle, possibly SUBconcsious cues that YOU exibit and react accordingly. Think about that next time he humps a leg!  | |

yes i trust her as much or probably more than my gut feeelings,,,
best protector ive every had,,, and ive had 2 husbands heheheh !
