| Is Intelligence Captivating............... Posted: 8/26/2006 9:07:05 PM | It is nice to be able to have intelligent conversations with someone, however they also can turn mundane, especially if an intelligent person is a braggart. If someone is overly intelligent, more so than the average person ,and they speak that way, then I don't even want to listen!

| Is Intelligence Captivating............... Posted: 8/27/2006 12:26:29 AM | | I have yet to find a woman that finds intelligence anything of importance. True they want a fellow that doesn't converse on a two-year old's level, but just as soon as they determine he is smater than them, they run for the hills. | |

But it makes it very exciting and stimulating when you do find people who can partake in a deep conversation.
Out of 20 people I have met in person over the years from online sites, I would say that 5 sparked my interest enough to see them for a second time.
But people have different motivations, ambitions and experiences and choose as a result. I kind of take meeting people as putting together a puzzle. If the piece doesn't fit, there is no bitterness; you keep trying different pieces until it fits.

Intelligence lasts longer -- looks don't last -- and a truly intelligent person will grow wiser as he or she ages. In my experience, most men are intimidated by intelligent woman. There is nothing more beautiful than a wise old man and nothing worse than an old fool --I would date an Einstein any day.

| Is Intelligence Captivating............... Posted: 8/27/2006 7:07:56 AM | There's an old joke that summarizes this.
A man began dating a woman who was very attractive but quite the dullard. After a while he became bored and while he kept dating her, he began looking to find someone more exciting. He met a very exciting woman, but she didn't challenge him intellectually, so while dating the first two, he started to look for someone smarter. He met a very intelligent woman who had a lust for adventure, and was attractive to him.
There came a time he had to decide which of the three was the best fit for him.
. . . . . . . . . . . .
He married the one with the biggest breasts.

Absolutely not. I want a man I can not only talk to for hours, but who can teach me something....as long as he's not talking to me like I am a five year old. That's the only time I would be turned off by it.

I have yet to find a woman that doesn't find intelligence an important feature. I would tender a guess smarter than anyone is ok, provided you don't treat them in a condescending manner.

I would like to find a woman that did appreciate intelligence as an asset, most tend to shy away.

| Is Intelligence Captivating............... Posted: 8/27/2006 6:54:52 PM | | Okeanos, You apparently missed my post and many others ! And what makes you think you were smarter.... just because they ran for the hills? Personally the woman I know seek it..... not flee from it .... could something else have been the cause for flight?! | |

("Math class is tough")
("Want to go shopping?")
("Okay, meet me at the mall")
(Let's have a campfire")
(Wouldn't you love to be a lifeguard?")

Well, I guess you could look at it this way ...Okeanos is probably smarter today, than the girls that once owned these dolls ... and certainly smarter, than the parents that bought them.
I just hope our successive generations aren't becoming more ...
ummm ... stupider? | |

But, I learned she's an American Icon, no matter how stupid she sounds ... and the best part is ...
she's worth about $75 Dollars on eBay.
** hmmm ... I wonder if Ken ever smacked Barbie around **

OT;
yeah, gotta love a brainiac ... but there is a down side to that aslo, which we can discuss later if the thread is still here.

| Is Intelligence Captivating............... Posted: 8/28/2006 12:17:55 AM | | Intelligence is probably THE most captivating thing. You could be with the most gorgeous woman in the world and if she's dumb as a stump what do you really have? | |

| Is Intelligence Captivating............... Posted: 8/28/2006 5:56:59 AM | Intelligence all the way baby.
As so eloquently said by many others, beauty fades, viagra is cheap, life is transitory. I can honestly say that I've always looked for intelligence first, the rest is gravy.
Cheers! | |

| Is Intelligence Captivating............... Posted: 8/28/2006 6:15:09 AM | Intelligence is more sexy than the hottest girl on any magazine cover anywhere. Intelligence has an awesome power to attract, intrigue and turn on. Someone who is actually intelligent, and not just well experienced, will keep me guessing indefinately. That helps out a relationship in a big way, keeping it spontaneous.
You have to be careful though, a lot of intelligence is usually accompanied by other, less desirable personality traits. Arrogance, need to control, stubborness, and a lot of other traits can turn me off of the most intelligent women.
Intelligence is great and I'd go for it almost any day, but have to remember to keep an eye open for the other crap that can come along with it

| Is Intelligence Captivating............... Posted: 8/28/2006 6:50:03 AM | There are all kinds of intelligence. What matters to me is whether their intelligence is compatible with mine. Not whether their IQ number is similar, but whether the way they use their brain is similar. Do they understand what I'm trying to say without me rewording it a dozen times..? :)
When I was in research I met a lot of highly intelligent types. There weren't very many that were remotely captivating! Many of them were quite boring to me because they liked to quote from their vast store of factual knowledge, in preference to playing with ideas and trying to figure things out themselves. I'm sure I was equally as boring to them because I don't retain stores of facts. Many also couldn't really cope with having a conversation with a human being because they were too intellectually focused.
I'm not keen on book-eating intellectuals, but I like thinkers and people that are always curious and wondering about stuff. The ability to wonder and to reason about things can be captivating.
