| Where's Your Happiness Come From? Posted: 8/21/2006 8:30:46 PM | I am going to steal dbdon's line
Happiness, to me, is the celebration of life.
sitting out on my patio in the morning with my coffee admiring my flowers and taking in the beauty and the quiet
going for a walk down a country road
playing with my dog and watching his tail and body wag as he breaks into a great big old grin
spending the afternoon painting while I listen to my favourite songs playing
watching someone's face light up when they lay eyes on you
listening to babies & children giggling
Having my neice or nephew see me and watching a big smile come on their face as they open their arms for a hug
Hugging those I love
Loving
So many joys, so little time. :o)

Things I tend to keep in mind.... ~remaine positive, even when the chips are down,...tomrw is another day! ~remind yourself that you are not perfect...and no one else is either! ~try to see the good in all things, misunderstandings happen all the time ~give unselfishly, a good deed really does make you "feel good"! ~keep your family and friends close...and cherish them! ~take care of yourself.... ~get rest ~go out ~eat what you want ~don't forget to play,...take time for you! ~sing loud...who cares if ya can't sing! ~dance till your feet hurt, even if you got two left feet! ~laugh till you cry ~dammit, just have fun!!...lol BUT...always, treat other's as you'd like to be treated.. Just a sample of things that keep me "content" and "smilin'" It's all gewd!

| Where's Your Happiness Come From? Posted: 9/21/2009 8:36:21 PM | I think my happiness comes from accepting where I am in life, and being content with what I have. It comes from my two great kids, and extended family who are there when I need them. It comes form having several very close friends that know everything there is to know about me and love me anyway. It comes from having things to do to keep me busy. It comes from having things to do that I enjoy. It comes from having enough financial resources that I don't have to worry about having money to pay my bills, have a roof over my head, clothes on my back, and food on my table. It comes from having faith in God and a sense of hope for what is to be after this life. It comes from being in reasonably good health. It comes from a sense that I have been blessed in this lifetime, and never taking those blessing for granted.
My newest source of happiness is a relationship I have with a man that I treasure that always greets me with a smile on his face. That smile on his face is infectious. I can not look at him and not have a smile on my face too. The Turtles said it so well...
Imagine me and you I do I think about you day and night It's only right To think about the girl you love And hold her tight So happy together If I should call you up invest a dime And you say you belong to me And ease my mind Imagine how the world could be So very fine So happy together I can see me lovin' nobody but you For all my life When you're with me baby the skies'll be blue For all my life Me and you and you and me No matter how they toss the dice It had to be The only one for me is you And you for me So happy together I can see me lovin' nobody but you For all my life When you're with me baby the skies'll be blue For all my life Me and you and you and me No matter how they toss the dice It had to be The only one for me is you And you for me So happy together Me and you and you and me No matter how they toss the dice It had to be The only one for me is you And you for me So happy together So happy together How is the weather So happy together We're happy together So happy together Happy together So happy together So happy together
And that my friends on POF is where my happiness comes from.

| Where's Your Happiness Come From? Posted: 9/22/2009 10:46:21 AM | My happiness usually comes from within. Sometimes external factors help; such as a beautiful sunrise, or having a good day in work, or spending time with friends and family, but more often than not it’s an internal happiness. I’m generally an optimist and try to see the good in people and every situation. Being grumpy is too much like hard work anyway... | |

| Where's Your Happiness Come From? Posted: 9/22/2009 2:31:58 PM | My happiness comes from knowledge. I have the KNOWLEDGE that I am the ONLY person, place, thing, or activity that can MAKE me happy.
My happiness comes from choice and having the independent power to MAKE that choice to BE happy or not.
It's now what happens to us, it's how we CHOOSE to respond to it.
I got a phone call once telling me my son had been in an accident totalling his vehicle. Within seconds of the initial moment of that call, I was incredibly happy.
I was concerned about the accident, I was concerned about my son's potential financial liability, I was concerned about all sorts of things.
But I was HAPPY.
I was happy cause the call CAME from my son. He said.. Dad, I just totalled the truck and the car I hit. I asked, are you ok? He said, a few cuts, the paramedics are trying to get me to sit down so they can check me out, I was making sure the other driver was ok.
I CHOSE in that moment to be ecstatic that my son was OK. The rest was just inconvenient.

| Where's Your Happiness Come From? Posted: 9/23/2009 7:00:55 AM | Happiness comes from within. Nobody can be happy all the time. Happiness just kinda sneaks up on me when I least expect and I'll be happy for a while, til daily life catches up. I won't be as happy, but can tackle life's challenges more efficiently when in a good mood and feeling good makes me more optimistic. I don't seek happiness, but it finds me for a visit often enough! | |

| Where's Your Happiness Come From? Posted: 9/23/2009 1:32:34 PM | Happiness is an attitude. I believe it comes from being content with myself and the world around me. I believe it also comes from the stories I tell myself about life's situations and how I respond to them. I could get grumpy and sad about lots of situations I experience in my life and sometimes I do feel sorry for myself. But if I focus on all that I have to be grateful for - A good job, financial stability, my health, my friends, my mortgage all paid up, the things I have accomplished in my life, my family- then I feel both fortunate and happy. Then there is also so much beauty and love in the world. All you have to do is look for it. I also eat and live healthy. I think that is because I love myself and life that I treat myself and my body well. This also contributes to my overall happiness. My daily prayer is " Thank you God for the gifts and adventures that this day will bring." All the adventures may not be good and sometimes it is difficult to recognize the gifts but if you look for them they will be there. To sum it up I have an attitude of grattitude. | |

| Where's Your Happiness Come From? Posted: 9/23/2009 2:27:34 PM | ^^^soldiersoldier ---from all kinds of places...too many to list 'em all, and I suspect that's true for most folks. 1Kindman4u describes being ecstatic with the news his son is ok after an accident ---I'm thinkin' that's a natural for most of us who have raised kids-thanks, Kindman for sharing that one. --just a few for me--I LOVE my work and experiencing small triumphs with my patients on a daily basis really does make my heart sing. Seeing my "boys" building solid happy lives for themselves. Really good live blues music just transforms my being in the moments. Nature's surprises ALWAYS excite my curiosity and spiritual awe. Innocence.---------------ok, 'nuff!---good thread! | |

| Where's Your Happiness Come From? Posted: 9/23/2009 2:51:54 PM | thank you for reviving this thread!
for me, it's spiritual connection and feeling safe/connected and part of something larger. it is an umbrella over everything i do and a continuous source of energy.
from the planet: wildlife, nature, creeks, lakes, oceans, mountains, meadows, seasons--out of all chaos, eventually comes order.
from the species: happy when i see people growing and thriving, laughing, succeeding and finding their half full glass--so as to work on the other half. i guess also "right action" and heartfelt intent towards me, from me and onto others as well.
in terms of activities: jazz, dancing, other forms of rythmn and upbeat music, social gatherings where there is good spirit, watching/interacting with aspects of nature. i also like nyc and it energizes me and brings "tears" of happiness, because i know how to navigate it and it holds my roots. it is mainly because of the buzz from the mixing of cultures, thoughts and a high level of (re)organizing--aka, world trade center, the lights going out, the life that comes from the jazz scene and just cannot be matched.
in terms of an intimate relationship, when it is going/growing in the right direction: the connection, the sensuality, the sharing of thoughts and the interaction where each is an active listener and it flows between us, the handling of ego for the higher good.
in terms of thoughfulness (maybe not politcally correct to admit, but seein' as how we are being honest): i like to help out with whatever i can do or afford, because in the course of my growth, there were a "few" angels there for me. i feel good when i am well received in light of my intention in that i was effective. i guess i am empathetic. in turn, i appreciate being known/treated similarly for who i "am". a bouquet of wild flowers, a card, a call to support whatever is in the cards, is deeply appreciated and does make me happy. it is an affirmation.
in terms of romantic notions: hand holding, leaning on each other, being peaceful not just alone but together, flowers, remembering symbolic events, gestures which walk the talk. it feels like a plant that has been given a drink of water, rather than waiting for the rain to come.
during bad times: i am very happy when they are over! but, i can draw happiness from other sources in the meanwhile.
with respect to health, as mentioned by many. once you resolve what is happening and come up with a plan and know your solid good points, you can still be happy. it's like saying rich people are happier than poor people. i beg to disagree. every event in our lives, both good and bad, are building blocks necessary to strenghen to get to bigger perspective. eg, when i got sick in my late 40's i fost/adopted my kids. before, i was too busy with my profession. also an example of the glass half full.

| Where's Your Happiness Come From? Posted: 9/23/2009 4:19:50 PM | | Happiness comes from within me, it's the little things. Seeing a sunrise or a sunset, watching the surf on a rainy beach roll in and out like the heartbeat of the earth, having my dogs lick my face to wake me in the morning, seeing squirrels stealing pecans and getting away before the dogs catch them, seeing flowers growing and blooming, hearing just the right song at just the right moment, having coffee or tea with a friend. Each new day is an adventure. Some days have more twists and turns than others, but they all have something good in them. When a day seems determined to be gloomy, I have memories that warm me: my grandmother busy making quilts for each of us, one of my toddlers first success at stacking blocks. There is always something. Life is too short to waste on gloom and doom and 'if only' or 'why didn't I?'. | |

| Where's Your Happiness Come From? Posted: 9/23/2009 5:52:53 PM | Interesting question... First my thought was...my happiness comes from my confidence...but confidence has many sources... sources of happiness. It is wisdom and knowledge...courage...kindness...fairness...self-control...transcendence... I know my strong and positive virtues...and I try to keep them growing...to feel happy... | |

| Where's Your Happiness Come From? Posted: 9/23/2009 6:16:15 PM | | I decided to relocate this past may from the city to the country and my whole way of looking at things seems to be different now. I finally feel an inner peace that I never felt before, and my kids are happy and adjusting well so that makes me smile inside too. I wish I had made this decision a long time ago. | |
