Would have chosen something else  , but no you are right, If you go for a date you will get found out, so I agree, what is the point. | |

I can forgive someone hiding their convictions for the axe murders. There is a point to that. You can meet, learn to love them and may be never find out.
But what I cannot understand is the lying about the obvious. I chatted and then spoke on the telephone with a woman a little younger than me and of average build. We met for lunch. She was easily ten years older and there was no point in her turning sideways to fit through the restaurant doors. I am a little ashamed but honest enough to admit that I probably would pass by her profile if she had told the truth. But what was such a turn off was not her age or size but the utter stupidity of lying about something on which she would be clearly found out so early in the game. I had her marked as a liar or fantasist and certainly as an idiot from that moment. Pleasant enough lunch though. She never rang back to my great relief. | |

As to why they do it.. Many many reasons I guess and none of them could be classed as normal behaviour

I wouldn't risk going on a meeting unless i'd seen them on webcam chat..
Photos are only photos, and voice chat can only confirm that they really are a female.
The only real way of ever knowing is webcam chat. I've been surprised a few times to see that they really are very real, and i didn't mind seeing the axe by the side of the computer..

And amusing they were... all mail in and out of them was monitored as part of 'the deal'. Ironically they helped keep the number of 'geniuine fakes' down as the parodies did it better.
Saddo's who pretend to be what they are not in order to get a date/sex/have an affair/get some attention will always exist if they can hide behind a screen - as will the Walter Mitty types. The latter work on the assumption that by the time you establish that "42 year old Fitness Instructor Caroline from Oxford, with the PhD" is really 52 year old dumpy Brenda from IT in Milton Keynes, you will be so besotted by her wonderful personality you won't care. Yeah, right; sad innit? | |

Posted: 8/30/2009 3:36:33 AM | It is very sad indeed. I went on a date with this guy from this site and his main photo was taken about 10/15 years ago! He was also nearer 5ft 5 rather than 5ft 10 he'd stated.
HELLO I may need contacts to see but did he really think I wouldn't notice. Don't get me wrong he turned out to be quite a nice person but I think he must have a magic mirror at home. | |

Phew, thank god for computer screens, because really I am a 75yr old man who has straight hair an curly teeth (the few that are left), I walk with a lisp and talk with a limp and I have been known to be a ladykiller in the flesh... they have taken one look at me and subsequently died of shock | |

A guy IMd me. I knew it was a fake pic, but his profile looked articulate and answered him.
He was asking the usual "what are you looking for" crap and I told him just chat.
He was asking what puts me off a guy, and I told him some stuff, then added a new one which was someone who didn't live in a clatty house since I'd just broke up with someone like that. He asked what I meant, and I told him some of the stuff.
Can you imagine my surprise when he started calling me all the names under the sun! It was my ex. Not sure about his motives with the fake profile were, but he sure as hell didn't enjoy it!

God, if someone had to see me on webcam before they dated me I'd worry about their motives and their ability to trust people. Not everyone has a webcam and I can think of 100 different things I'd rather spend my money on than a cam just so that someone knows I am who I say I am. | |
