The Nigerian government is so corrupt that not only do they steal from their own citizens, but even some members of that government are involved with these scams. And a lot of ordinary people are involved as well because it's quite lucrative. Some say they do this because there are no jobs to be had. But that is no excuse. They are just common criminals. And their scams work on the premise that Westerners are rich, gullible and greedy. And obviously enough are for them to still be at it.
And another thing. You'd think by now they would use different stories. And different pics. At least make it look realistic. I mean c'mon! How many young, single, white American women could there really be in Nigeria? lol.

LoL. Yea, the second anyone says "Nigeria" I block them.

I read somewhere that 419 scams are the nation's third largest means of income. How sad is that?

There's so many of those scams around its rediculous and its just as rediculous to fall for them too. Anything from Africa or Russia should send up a BIG RED FLAG that says SCAM! Whenever I get those emails I just tell them using all CAPS and a lot of profanities how everyone knows that scam, you know how many letters like this I get? etc. And I know they are out to steal my money not give me any. I don't get them so much any more. I have a friend that actually got one of those in her postal mail. It was a laugh. We wondered how many of those they sent out and how much they spent on paper and postage.

www.scam.com has a forum detailing just about any scam you can think of. They include 419 scams, lotto scams, romance scams, work at home scams, just about everything. Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is! What's sad about these scams is that they WORK. People wouldn't keep pulling them if no one ever fell for them. Everyone should educate themselves on what types there are out there, and remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!

Thank you for raising this issue. It happened to me several times but I didn't believed them.
Someone pretend to be a girl who is living in Niegeria and ask me to send her money so she can come to Canada and live with me !!

I think their scam is so stupid.

But yeah thank you for posting this in the forum so people get the warning.

god i know this nigerian scam.. only too well.. i got scammed from a person myself.. its great that ppl are becoming more aware.. if i had of known of this prior i wouldnt have been scammed and yeah it was a chase bank money order buying some furniture and i was to send the difference to the shipper.. as an honest person i did so.. but got a call from western union who asked me if i knew the person as it was a large amount of money and they were aware of the nigerian/USA/england scams.. i put a hold on the money .. but the bank wanted their money back..i already paid my friend for the furniture and he was gone too.. he wasnt from nigeria.. i helped him out using my internet prior to POF days and the bank covered my losses due to insurance and the threat of a law suit for the teller to not at least verify there was such a bank..(there wasnt any in that location) or verifying the funds.. thank god my bank knows me well otherwise i'd have really been taken.. thanks to the OP who brought this to e1's attention.. i really think they are so good now thats why they can fool honest and decent ppl.. who have a heart.. but as many say "if it seems to good to be true...it is"..words to live by...

what about Mark?? The missionary stranded in Nigeria, who transfered money to my account?
The bank confirmed that it was there, and gave it to me. I sent it to him via western union, and then the bank came back and said the transfer was fraudulent. I owed the bank., After they guaranteed me that the transfer came from an account in their bank and therefore was SAFE. The bank said that the transfer came from 2 different accounts, neither belonging to him. He had hacked into their system. I had heard about the money order scam, but didn't think that the bank would guarantee it, if it was not genuine. A very expensive lesson, for which I learned a LOT. I think the picture he used was from a modeling studio. I did turn him in to the FBI.

Sorry Loreili..So sorry bout your expieriance...But I called the cops and they weren't even too much in a hurry to catch this guy as I tried to hang on to the contact while the police were involved.. I never got any reply back from the cops since.. But boy the bank sure was in a hurry for their money and even closed my account for 2 months.. But I had taken most out expecting it... And used their money as randsom for their insurance to cover my a$$.. And they DID They covered my A$$ as I held onto what money was left from the wiring costs $200.00 and the money I gave the invisible friend.. So it all worked out for me.. But I've had friends do the exact same thing and never got covered by their banks.. Even after I warned them.. Anything that seems to be too good... Usually is!!!!!!...Guess I was just lucky and smart....

I have to laugh at how quickly these scamers "fall in love" with you....usually with in 30 mins of chatting. Lets see I've had a prince/widower/model all american...all who couldn't communicate in proper English , all living in Nigeria fall in love with me in 30 mins. And then ask if I own a credit card. LMAO. I do feel so sad for the people that fall for it.

Its a billion dollar industry in Nigeria, pretty sick eh.

LMAO

What is so darn funny is that these people aren't even good cons... They use the same m.o. everytime.. what a joke! Always in Africa or some BS.. If isn't just on this site... They use these fake pics that look like they ripped them from a magazine.. I like to mess with them personally.. They need to get a new game... cause this "I am stuck crap blah, blah" is getting old...

Geez, if people have 6 figure cash to spend, why don't they donate it to charity? Or better yet, donate to me to put me through law school!!

I always laugh so hard when I visit these threads! It amazes me that some people are walking around without a tether! Isn't the essence of any scam (Nigerian, Thai, XYZ-istan) Greed? And NO, not just Greed on the part of the Originating Scammer but from the Scammee as well! The Scammee always thinks they are going to get something 'more' than they've earned/deserve. Whether it's a check-cashing fee far more exorbitant than even banks get. Or a 400-lb trucker who thinks he's actually found the one EuroPlayboy model who gets him? Or the 55 year old woman who has somehow entranced the young, handsome foreign student? Come on!

I don't feel sorry for most of the Scammees because I believe they are the same people who step over homeless people on the corner everyday. They are the same people who've never even considered writing a regular check to some local charitable organization.

A fool and his money are soon parted. Oh the wisdom of the ages!

I get those e-mails all the time. BTW, just b/c they say they're in Nigeria doesn't make it so. I got an instant message one day from someone called rose_household.com, even had a website. They claimed to be in the UK. Same MO, 'please cash a money order' or something like that. I told them I forwarded the info to the FBI & to my state's attorney general(which I did) & to stop scamming people. Haven't heard anything since.
What amazes me is people falling for it at all!

ITV,don't be so hard on yourself. You're not a big dummy for having a big heart!Someday you'll get your rewards for being kind hearted and the person on the other end will get a different kind of reward.Did ya all know that %90 of the worlds wealth is in nigeria, yep,it's true.I've had at least 30 relatives with my last name that have made millions in nigeria and then met their untimely deaths with their wiife and children with no known relatives to collect thier wealth and that's where i always come in,just send them my info for identity theft and i can collect.Another good one is the russian ladies that have contacted me from another site and they also love me the second time we talk. All around 27 and pleasing to this old mans eyes, slim, beautiful and all the men in russia have a drinking problem with vodka they say because i write them back and say{you look like that and can't find a native man your age}?I typed in my browser one day,{russian dating}and the the lessons that i learned were priceless. One told of a man that was caught sending pictures of his wife and another of a fat balding man sending pics. Can you imagine that scenario if you're a guy getting this hot email with a hot pic and you're writing them back thinking you're writing this babe and it's really a fat old man.Yeck.The same thing is happening with these nigerian scams with women and i guess men too.I usually write them back and say{most of you foriegners hate americans so why don't you leave us alone and get a job.Make your money honestly}.I had a couple of years of this junk so anymore i just hit spam and call it good. Also i don't think calling anybody an idiot is appropriate,it's just like people that call other people losers. My belief is that they're the losers for making such a statement.Good luck to all.

They're poor and they try to scam off you so they can eat the next day???What's wrong with this picture!Shouldn't they be using smoke signals instead of a computer if they're so poor and doesn't a computer run off of eletricity? The subject of pay pal, there is a site called spoof@paypal.com.When i get these bogus emails i forward them to this email address and it gives paypal a chance to track the bad people.

{Or the 55 year old woman who has somehow entranced the young, handsome foreign student? Come on! }

EXACTLY! I'm closer to 45 but the point is the same. Let's face it, with the hundreds of thousands of beautiful women in the world, I'd be the last one a drop dead gorgeous guy would IM.

No matter what the reason someone falls for the scam is, IE greed, loneliness, ego, kindheartedness, it's still a scam.

Yes, they come from other countries. I just had one that said I inherited 1million 750 British pounds. I was to send name, address, phone number to this address in London. Of course it was a scam. I have a friend who lives in London. The address I was to send all this info to was a butcher's shop that burned down 2 years ago (A vacant lot).

The IM's got so bad on yahoo messenger, I changed my settings so I have to approve someone before they can add me to their friends list. I got really tired of "you are beautiful woman ok. Do you own home ok? I love you ok?"

To those people in this thread that have sent money in reply to emails and stuff: How stupid are you actually? How mentally bankrupt do you need to be to send someone you're not related/married to your bank account number/money? Good Lord, and they let people like you breed without papers??

LOL

Yea, they all love to pepper their speech with "ok" - what's up with that? That's the other way I tag them as a scammer before they ever say the N-word (Nigeria)... two or more "ok"s in as many sentences.

Oh No! they are scams? I had the wife of the form Kind of the Sudan, write to me personally and offer me 20% of 600m for just letting the Bank Of Africa send me the 600M and hang on to it for her, I was so excited!!! She just knew she could trust me...
A man that lived in North Carolina travelled to Germany then to Kenya and his compute broke down, couldnt get his credit card to work, that he had fallen madly in love with me, and would I just send him a new one and he will pay me back in a week when he gets back.

Just for fun I said sure!! I had a blast giving him FedEx numbers, delivery dates and such, I played the dumb blonde and told him I sent it to North Carolina, along with some spending money, and I was sending my private plane to get him and if I could get out some meetings... I may show up too.. it was pure entertainment.. I told a friend about it and they said there is a website dedicated to scamming the scammers. I couldnt find it, but I didnt look to hard.

Yes we live in a world where the scammers are hitting on Americans and it pays off for them, a report stated that Americans sent over $65 Million dollars to scammers thinking it would pay off. They forgot the old... "if it sounds too good to be true... it probably is"... just have some fun... they may get bored after chasing all over the country to pick up the money you sent with the wrong postal code...

very possibly; i met a gal [on the internet] from nigeria whom after chatting twice with her she was addressing me with sweetheart and then wanted me to send her money for her airfare money so we could meet. i said no. she then said for me to pay for half. i never chatted again. originally her profile said she lived in las vegas, not true. i didn't of it as a scam then but it probably was.......Hoshea
