| Nigerian Scams Posted: 12/1/2007 8:46:46 AM | It is amazing how similar the scenarios are ............
My scammer was/is an electrical engineer who is working on a Power Plant Generating Transformer that can generate electricity through the Solar System! Wow! was my response! ... but, he could not explain the design of this until we met in person .........
He lived in San Diego ..... when I asked about the fires and how they affected him ....... the responses were not very detailed ..... and the responses were different, depending on my questions ...... but, they were not consistent .....
He has a daughter who was 8, but suddenly she is 16...... after my comment about how much older she looked in the pic .... the pic has the side profile of her giving a loving and tender kiss to her dad ............
Yes ....... very broken English ............
Yes ....... his wife died in a tragic accident 6 years ago.
Yes ..... he just went to Nigeria yesterday ...... but, the trip had been delayed a few days .......... this is the last contract, then he will retire ....... he is 52 .....
This has been fun .......... seeing how far he will go .......
He has not gone out to ask for money yet ....... but, he told me they don't take credit cards at the hotel he is in .......... he was getting there .......
My response ...... Did you look into this before you left for your trip? You were working on many things to prepare for your trip .... internet access, etc ........... I thought you would look into this too ........ If they don't accept credit card, what do they accept?
His response ......... Cash On Hand .....
Since I don't have any more time for this, I asked him to have a look at the web site www.romancescam.com .........
He asked why ...... since he does not have time ........ interesting where the time is spent ..........
I do find it unbelievable that people would actually send money to these scammers!

| Nigerian Scams Posted: 12/1/2007 11:02:41 AM | Ive gotten a few of those myself. I forwarded all of the email and contact info to the Nigerian Govt. I try to plod them along as much as I can. One guy even gave me a phone number..hehehe...Priceless! The photo he used had a copywrite on the bottom of a photographer in California. I emailed the photographer and attatched the photo. He emailed me back and told me that the photo belonged to a Dr in California who he knew personally.
I sure had a great time toying with that jerk before I sent all the info to the authorities. HIs picture ( well the one he used ) is on the website of scammers, along with all the names and email he uses.
Yes there are women on that site as well.
Its quite interesting, but more-so sad the people that get sucked into those scams. It should be a capital offense with punishment of the same.
|
| Nigerian Scams Posted: 12/1/2007 11:03:52 AM | Maybe the Nigerian police are corrupt or not as good as our police if they don't do anything. Those types belong in prison. I know allot of people in law enforcement.
Our police can't arrest those types as there is a jurisdiction rule for law enforcement authorities.

| Nigerian Scams Posted: 12/1/2007 11:21:06 AM | Dude, they have banks that cash checks in Nigeria and they even have International banks that convert curencies etc!!!! 99 % of these are scams and you will get burned.!!!This is how these people make thier living. There are sites that expose these scams and you can even down load pictures and see if they have been reported on other sites for scamming using those pics. Very few governments will even prosecute these people and the problem is so huge most dont know how to even police it. My best advice is dont get involved with these people at all. If you want to get screwed at least keep it in the country........................ | |

It should be a capital offense with punishment of the same.
I find it hard to believe that anyone would seriously advocate the death penalty for con-artists, even foreign ones. Punishment is one thing, but death? Such an attitude sends shivers down my spine!
The usual reason that 419 and dating scams work is that people are willing to suspend common sense and/or neglect to do basic and easily-performed research.

| Nigerian Scams Posted: 12/1/2007 11:34:45 AM | | I have been approached by 2 different men on this site, as well as 2 other men on another site. All claiming to be in Nigeria, for business, but regularly live in the states. Their lines are they lost their wife, or she cheated on them, they looking for true love and have found it in you. They ask for cash first, then when that doesn't work, they ask for you to cash a check for them, sometimes they even ask you to have a package sent to you, and you in return will then send it to them. They are in a bind, and need money to pay their workers, or they are there working for a long time, but if you will send them money for a plane ticket, they will come home and be with you, and yes their english is terrible. Once they find out you are not giving them anything, they go from messaging you to death to dropping off the planet. Why can't we people that just want to find someone to have a simple date with, end up having to fight off these scammers instead. Somebody Do Something!!!!! Here is a site for reporting internet scams: www.1c3.gov, let's get these people off the sites at least that we use. | |

| Nigerian Scams Posted: 12/1/2007 11:42:24 AM | Its not an attitude, its my way of thinking. And I feel the same way about people who rob, beat, and torture the elderly, regardless of the country its committed in.
People that fall for those scams are lonely and alone. They arent thinking about "researching" the swooner.

| Nigerian Scams Posted: 6/25/2009 5:40:02 AM | | Yes with the economy the way it is these scams are getting worse. Pretty much any site where you can communicate with people are being infected by these scammers. Probably two to three times a month we get someone in who firmly believes these checks are real. Its sad to see people who just can't believe they are being scammed. Sure enough we put a hold on the check and it goes back bad. | |
|

| Nigerian Scams (HERE'S THE FUNNY SIDE OF IT!!!) Posted: 7/3/2009 3:23:56 PM | Feliss...
Unfortuneately this is our world today. The scams that you are mentioning are technically called "419" scams. You can research all about them on the internet.
I work with a watch dog group over on MySpace who work to reduce these scams and frauds. There are certain things that the majority of the scammers have in common that are tip offs. Two things to be VERY careful of, is if the scammer asks for ANY amount of money, no matter how small and if they suggest that they would like to cohabitate with you.
One thing I am running into now is women who have allowed these scammers to use their address in the US as a point to have merchandise delivered. The merchandise is perchased with stolen credit cards, or more accurately stolen credit information. The scammer need not have the plastic card in their possession.
After the merchandise begins rolling in to the targets home, then they are directed to repack the merchandise and forward it on to a West African country. By doing so, they have then become complicit in the fraud.
One another note...some of the funniest things I have ever read on the net are accounts that are posted by "scam baiters". If you want to read some "roll on the floor" funny stuff, go to: http://www.angelfire.com/ri2/scamslammers There are quite a few other good sites too, but I have found that one to be one of the very best.
Kind regards to all fishies...

| Nigerian Scams Posted: 7/23/2009 7:27:14 AM | | Hello Ladies. I am running as fast as I can from the fish (sharks). A big scam took place last night from someone who contacted me but I didn't fall for sending $$$ to Africa to terry44good@yahoo.com. Such a con...but not a good one. Don't be fooled or threatened. Be smart and look for a good man the old-fashioned way. | |

| Nigerian Scams Posted: 9/8/2009 11:15:13 AM | Not all are saying they are in Nigeria. I had one that was from Texas but and working for an airline and currently living in England. After a few weeks his apartment caught on fire and he lost everything and he wanted me to send him $1,000.00. I checked all of the England news casts and didn't see anything of the town he lived in about a fire. I told him I didn't have the money and he got real hostile with me so I told him to F--k off. I had also been approached by several all with a different sceem and all wanting money sent to them, yea right! | |
|
| Nigerian Scams Posted: 9/8/2009 11:18:03 AM | | My solution is to ask them for money :-) Tell them you want a $100 security deposit to show they're legitimate. | |
|
| Nigerian Scams Posted: 9/19/2009 11:40:39 PM | There seems to be more and more of them popping up here on POF .... I report them to admin when they contact me. You should do the same ... get rid of them before they bother others .....
A sure sign ....... widowed .... a pic of a model perfect person ... usually with a child ..... engineering type occupation ........ the English in the profile may be fine .... but the message to you is generic ...... how they want this wonderful companion ....... but the English is atrocious for such a highly professional person ..... and the profile states they live in CAnada or the US and are caucasions .....
... and they seem to converse with you at about 4AM our time ........
You can see problems with the picture ........
I just received another message early this morning ....... I expect that they will be bck on at about 4AM ..... :)

| Nigerian Scams Posted: 9/20/2009 11:41:31 AM | Craigslist sent them over I had an ad on craigslist to sell a vacuum and got a saucy note in response from a russian gal named yulya telling me that I 'sound like such a nice guy' (no mention of the vacuum I was selling though) hahaha-I guess she didn't care what my gender was, just phishing--musta been desperate LOL. These days any online ad is apparently a place scammers will hit. There is often some kind of story involving personal drama or tragedy-Don't fall for it fishies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Craigslist does have great info about scams on their site if anyone wants to know what to look for | |
