| Tiger Woods - Overhyped? Posted: 9/4/2006 10:59:43 PM | I don't care how good he is. It is still golf and it is still boring. I would rather watch a baseball game featuring a pitchers duel than watch golf. Yes, he is overexposed and overhyped.
So you actually took the time to read a thread about a sport you don't like, and a player you don't care about...just so you could tell everyone how much you dislike that sport and player.
Interesting..... | |

| Tiger Woods - Overhyped? Posted: 9/5/2006 4:29:24 PM | Actually, as good as Tiger is, it's getting to the stage where he's actually BAD for golf. I'd compare it to all those years when Michael Shumacher was winning pretty well EVERY F1 race; after a couple of seasons of that, I just stopped watching. No fun watching any kind of sport when the outcome is 90 percent guaranteed before the match is even played. At the same time, nobody wants to see Tiger "sandbag" it, just so others can win once in a while. It's up to the rest of the field to rise to his level if they can. | |

| Tiger Woods - Overhyped? Posted: 9/5/2006 5:15:04 PM | | well...I've been a golfer for 30 years but i can tell you that I only started watching it on TV with any real interest in 1996. Even now, the only tournaments I care to tune into are the ones that Tiger is in. | |

| Tiger Woods - Overhyped? Posted: 9/16/2006 6:07:49 PM | You know my father would watch golf every now and then when I was a kid. I used to say I wanted to be a golf player. That was unheard of for an inner city African-American kid. I have always looked at golf like chess, the two games are similar in ways.
At First Tiger Woods was a sensation because he was not white, but over the years the fad has worn off and people are starting to say "Damn this kid can play!"
I Was just playing EA Sports Tiger Woods PGA Tour, and I think that is the only time I can dream of beating that man.
There have been times that he seemed like he was in a slump, but then he makes an incedible shot and your hooked back in.
I do remember George Carlin saying "Watching golf is like watching flies F*ck" ," I mean some guy in silly pants hits the ball and spends a half hour looking for it and then hits it again. I say pick it up a*shole! You lucky you found it the first time!"
A little smile for you all.

Rather than start a new thread, I opted to bump this one instead... Being that he's accomplished even more astonishing feats in the last two years, what's your current take on Tiger?

| Tiger Woods - Overhyped? Posted: 3/11/2009 8:13:40 AM | | i dont think tiger is overhyped in how good he is, i think that he is overhyped on the differnce he has made on the game, its not like black kids in the gettos are out on the golf course due to him, he just got white people who watch golf to root for him thats it, again its not like black kids are doing the whole " be like tiger" thing like they did for m. jordan, is tiger the best golfer ever, most likely yes! | |

No... but he has gotten kids, period, interested in the game to a degree that has never been seen before. But it will never be a big effect on "black kids in the guettos" considering the cost of the sport.

| Tiger Woods - Overhyped? Posted: 3/11/2009 9:27:53 AM | I'm not referring to race whatsoever, that's completely irrelavent... I'm talking about his sheer ability, and total dominance over the best players in the world. Even taking half of last year off, he is still on pace to shatter every long term golf record that ever stood. IMO, he is deservingly the "face of golf". As for the difference in the game, his impact has been ASTRONOMICAL. Purses are twice or more than what they used to be before he was on Tour, fan base has increased tenfold, and people that don't even play golf are tuning in to watch him play! Don't you agree?
**Everyone is entitled to my opinion!**

| Tiger Woods - Overhyped? Posted: 3/11/2009 10:18:07 AM | | i dont know, i dont watch it at all, so i dont turn it on to watch him, either does anybody i know that doesnt play golf, iam not saying u are wrong but it doesnt apply to me or anyone i know. about the dollars, again i dont know, i mean superbowl tickets are a hell of alot more now then they where just 10 years ago, so does that mean that the players now a days are way better now then just 10 years ago? look i cant over state this, i think he is the best ever, but hype is hype and there is alot of money in that, let me give u this example lebron james vs tim ducan, lebron has alot more advertising and hype ( and no rings) , tim ducan has no hype ( and 4 rings), lebron is the bigger draw but ducan is the bigger winner, so sometimes hype is just hype. the attendence for the clev. cavs have increased ten fold as well, that doesnt mean that lebron is the best ever just because of the hype. dont kid yourself corps. love the fact that tiger is black, and they market that all day long, i just dont think he will have a huge impact on soiceity like others think tiger will. | |

| Tiger Woods - Overhyped? Posted: 3/30/2009 12:14:14 AM | denny... I've seen some of your other posts... you seem like a fan of a few teams and a few sports, but you don't strike me as an athlete... and a fan of sports. If you don't know... and you don't watch it... Then you must not like it, and why even comment? I'm not telling you not to.... everyone has a right to, I'm just wondering why some of you on here, who don't know anything about it, have the negative things to say. I have read several, not just from denny.
As far as basketball, yes Tim Duncan is a different type of player than James, or a Kobe or Jordan. Tim has been an MVP, and he has those championships, and he is I believe a great role model, with great work ethics and a team player. Like wise with James, Kobe and Michael... But they have something else. Look at Robert Horry... he has more rings than most, 7 rings from 3 different teams. He's a great guy to have on your team, as a 6th man... and a guy that can sink that big shot for you at the bell. But this doesn't make him a star like James or Kobe. They are the players that can take over and dominate a game.
Now as far as Tiger (It's a shame we have to even discuss that he his black) He is the best in his sport right now, and has had a great run, but he also dominates his sport more than other athletes that would dominate theirs.. like a MJ or Wayne Gretzky or Pete Sampras.
The Hype around Tiger is because ever since he stepped into the PGA, he started dominating. Sure, I could think of at least 5 other golfers who could give him a run for his money for all time best...
The thing is... He is one of, if not the best athlete of this time. (Just not to those that don't like golf, and some that don't even consider it a sport)

| Tiger Woods - Overhyped? Posted: 3/30/2009 5:38:40 AM | corps. love the fact that tiger is black
Since when has he ever called himself black?
He's not even half black.
Tiger isn't overhyped. He's the real deal.
He's the best golfer of this generation. and will probably go down as the best golfer to ever live when he's done.

No golf is still an upper middle class, upper class white sport. It's far less exclusionary than in the previosu 20 - 30 years, but the costs far exceed what kids form the ghetto could afford. even if they could get access to apublic course.
Political correctness killed black golf at the PGA level.he death of black golf occured when it became unfashionable for a white golfer to have a black caddy. How many black caddies are in the PGA tour now, 1 or 2 maybe. Ironically now at a time when being a caddie is a good living, blacks have been largely excluded from the ranks, due to the politically correct culture.
Oh, and Tiger is the real deal, as his play yesterday is evident of his being on a different level tha most of his competition.

| Tiger Woods - Overhyped? Posted: 3/30/2009 10:32:32 AM | Tiger should get all the credit he deserves and probably more. I dont play golf, but I will watch a tourney with Tiger in it cause he is THAT good.
Bigger sponsors, Bigger money for the rest of the pro's.
How big do you think the Masters would be w/o tiger next week?...I would watch bits and pieces of it, but with tiger in there, I will watch the final two days if he is still in it.
the other golfers should be thanking Tiger for being so big and getting bigger money from sponsors when Tiger is there...
I'm sure Tiger isn't losing much sleep over what a dead white guy had to say about him before kicking off
yea I agree, He is one of the most likeable athletes in the world, makes crap loads of money, and better yet, goes home to his HOT Swedish wife every night...
I knew I should picked up a golf club at 5 like tiger did....
