Posted: 3/12/2005 6:13:19 PM | Gamer, you're right. Living without sex is not something people wish on themselves and others when they throw a penny into a fountain.
However, living without sex is not death.
There are many people who live without sex, and live very fulfilled lives.
This society encourages us to believe that without sex, life is not worth living. It does this through focusing almost entirely on sex, to sell products, to rate people, as a determinant of quality of life, and to measure people's value in relation with one another. We end up believing that, aside from sex, there is little of importance. This is an incorrect assumption, but one we extrapolate from the bombardment of sexual messages we receive daily. Thing is, the more we give importance to sex, the more important sex becomes to us, till it becomes an enormous monster that controls us and without which we feel we could die.
There are millions of things that have far greater value than sex. It's too bad we seldom, if ever, focus on these. Life would be a hell of a lot more profound if we did. | |

Posted: 3/13/2005 1:54:44 AM | yup, unless you get an std test done before and after you sleep with someone (it may take awhile for certain std's to show up on a test) then you can never know for sure what you're putting yourself at risk for.

Posted: 3/13/2005 4:36:19 AM | I've got to be honest but yes, I'd walk away, in fact I'd run. There's not a chance I'd do anything with someone who had the HIV virus or HSV2. Im sorry, the risks are just too great.
Im especially terrified of HVS2 cause of the stuff they used to terrorize kids with when I was younger, goin through sex ed. Back then it was about scaring kids away from things and not enlightening them.
I just feel my health is too important to risk being with someone with a highly contageous, infectious disease. Does it make them less of a person cause they were unfortunate enough to get infected? No, absolutely not. Does it mean I want to risk getting infected myself? Absolutely not! | |

maybe you can live a happy life without sex, but i can't. it's not society and the media. it's called hormones. my hormones have been raging since i was 15 and aren't gonna stop.
as far as the millions of things that have a far greater value than sex, i cant think of any, at least not from my perspective. | |

For example, people who are immunocompromised can develop yeast infections because yeast is ubiquitous in the environment, and it is only the strength of our immune system that can stop our body from suffering from continuous yeast infections.
As for the person that said that most people today have STDs... I'm going to guess and say that she was referring to young people. (I'm not a young person, so I'm uh.. a little less familiar with what goes on in that regard). Either way, I was horrified when I read that. Is that the case? That younger people just take it as a matter of fact that they will be infected, or that most people are infected? :::shudder::

Just make sure to stay away from women that look like they have recreational sex. On the other hand, where the hell are you going to find one like that, if, according to the posts in here, young people are just dancing the infection and re-infection dance? Either case, be cautious. | |
