| Now That Country Music is cool. Posted: 8/29/2006 8:36:09 AM | I've got a different story behind country music. I was born and 1/2 raised in a very small village (maybe 300 pop max?) until I was 10. We always listened to ABBA, Supertramp, etc. with my mom. Knew them all word for word. Queen, Chicago, you name it!. Then my mom got remarried and we moved to the farm. THE farm...it was country everything, and the joke was that every morning before catching the bus for school my sis and I would change the station from country to rock. My step dad did not appreciate it, but one day he left it there on the rock station, and we changed it back. The song was Christmas Carol. It made my sis and I bawl like babies, and since that day, we've been listening to country music.
I'm partial to older country songs, early Trisha Yearwood, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw etc. However, the new stuff is pretty great too. Carrie Underwood's Jesus take the Wheel makes me cry still. I also like Eminem & Sean Paul etc., because you can bellydance to them (especillay Temperature) & anything by Shakira.
Back to the topic - we went to Cowboys Ranch in London on the weekend and heard Sleeping Giant. They were incredible, and we're going back this weekend to see Bareback Riders, and then hitting the Embro Fair in September to see Sleeping Giant again. LOL They were great...mixed it up really well, and got some Thunder Struck (ACDC) in with the country music, and the crowd seemed to really enjoy the mixes....did Fishin'in the dark with another rock song and was amazing!

| Now That Country Music is cool. Posted: 8/29/2006 4:03:53 PM | I have never been a closet country music fan....I love country music....I grew up on Loretta Lynn, Patsy Cline, Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton......
I'm old school country all the way.....the stuff they have today is more pop than it is country but hey to each it's own......

| Now That Country Music is cool. Posted: 9/12/2006 6:48:34 AM | hahahahahahahahaha "Why I Nevah!!!! I would nevah have suspected YOU ta be a country music bumpkin!!!"
K, Nascar isn't country music but it is COUNTRY. It's as country as Pick up trucks and Trailer parks!!!
Ya see, here is my thing. I lived out in Stratford for 2.5 years before moving to Kitchener. I work at an Agricultural Co-operative organization and travel southern and central ontario visiting sites for my job. I am surrounded by people who love country music and all that goes along with country living. There is much about living in rural Canada I love.
However, my opposition to country Music stems from a discussion i had with someone I work with who unsuccessfully tried to convince me that Country is a CULTURE. That's right, all those things I mentioned up above in my humerous rant she dubbed a culture. CULTURE. Country is NOT CULTURE. It's a lifestyle maybe. It's a trend. It's NOT A CULTURE.
Oh ya, and Country music all still sounds the same. More rockabilly now than ever, but it still sounds the same. The ballads are still sappy, the dance tunes are still twangy, Garth Brooks shirts are still Tacky, and there is no one who can tell me different!!!

| Now That Country Music is cool. Posted: 9/12/2006 7:10:47 AM | Now theres a statement that "will" come outta my mouth....alway was cool and will be cool forever.

Fox trott, two step, polka.....I love em...more fun dancing those than any other.
dantes.....what music is cool to you?
|
| Now That Country Music is cool. Posted: 9/12/2006 7:13:49 AM | Nevah? Not even once? Oh, you poor poor thing you Been peeking at my bumpkin have you? Just keep on surprising you do I?
I will agree with you on this one point. Country music is MUSIC not culture. Just like rock is music, not culture. Classical, is music not culture. Jazz, blues, rap, hip hop. All music, not cultures.
Lifestyles may include any or all of these types of music (mine does) There are trends in music and trends in clothing and trends in cars and trucks but they are not necessarily linked. Rockers wear blue jeans and drive pickup trucks too.
Whoops, just realized I forgot this one in my previous rant
Line dancing? Not for me, I prefer individuality
|
| Now That Country Music is cool. Posted: 9/12/2006 8:56:13 AM | Miss Lizz in repsonse to what musical genre's I think is cool, almost anything but country music. I think I rank Polka a notch below country. Now for all those fans of polka don't get yer lederhosen in a knot. Polka is NOT cool.
T-gurl I can't help but peek at yer bumkin, your 6'4 WITHOUT heels. With heels i come up to yer dang bumkin. Just keep yer bumpkin outta my way!!! Don't go surprising me anymore got it bud? lmfao.
