Yeah, I try to get to Vegas once a year to hit the UFC. Here is me with Couture at the after party from UFC 52 at his hotel.

Also, my coach is Shawn Tompkins from www.teamtompkins.com and we've had some guys fight in the UFC and other shows so I get to chill and work with some of the fighters.

It's a great sport and growing so fast. Nice to see so many people excited about it!

Hey Doug,

I'm going to Vegas to see Pride FC: Real Deal in October. What hotel do the fighters typically stay at? Also did you get a good rate on flight/accommadations? I have my tickets and I'm looking for a good deal for the travelling portion of the trip.

Let me know!

Thanks!

Pride should be a great show. I am not sure where they will be staying since the fight is at the Thomas and Mack centre.

When the UFC is at the Mandalay or MGM the fighters usually stay in the hotel where the event is. Which means if you stay there and just wander around you will find them.

Aside from that, you can always hit up the Xyience centre to train at. Most of the guys from our gym train there when fighting in the UFC.

There is also the Las Vegas Combat Club and Cobra Kai. Last time I was down I got to train at Cobra Kai with Mark Laimon and Joe "Daddy" Stevenson from "the ultimate fighter" reality show.

As far as hotel goes, you can always stay at a cheap hotel and just go to the weigh ins which are usually free anyway. Lots of fighters show up there too. Most are always happy to get a pic taken with fans.

have fun!

As far as I know Penn and Hughes are still on. GSP has a groin injury. How he injured it is anyone's guess.

Damn, I come on here for a laugh and I see some MMA talk. Nice! It's quite simple though I like my boy from the Island but he's going to drop a decision. Not even for the fact that I want to see gsp/hughes in this december. Just because b.j has gone up and down in weight, and Matt's solid as shit.

B.J even said the night he faught GSP if it was Matt hughes he'd have been in trouble..

Being from Californina originally, i was lucky enough to have met "The iceman" in 1998. Back then he was the National Kickboxing Champ and was considering getting involved in UFC, Zuffa didnt own it yet. Gracie was still tryin to promote the sport. I saw on Chuck;s site he recently gave a pep talk to the SF 49ers, and put them thru his training workots, very cool.

ffryan:

John Alessio is nobody's *****. He's a tough guy. I won't hold it against Diego for not finishing Alessio. Besides I think Diego just likes to GnP inside the guard. I'm not saying his subs are Nog level, but he's an excellent grappler.

I know who Fabio is. Although I have never met him persoannly The guys at Shah Franco's and Bruckmann's (Justin) speak VERY highly of Wageny. He has some sick jit's. And I hear he's a good guy too. I know a blue belt from Wageny's club. Small guy about 125-130 lbs maybe 5' 5".....40 years old and a blue belt right now. Can't remember his name but he's a solid BJJ guy, very good technique and a nice guy to boot. Maybe you know the guy I mean.

Anyway, get youself back in that club and start training again........lol

Alessio did great. He just needed to pull the trigger after stuffing the take down imo.

I've rolled with Wagnney and he's great. No wonder he won the ADCC's.

Wow! Just when Hughes looked like he was in deep trouble, Penn gassed!

BJ, why didn't you work cardio? You have all that talent?

So Hughes retains the belt!

I read online (so questionable credibilty) that Penn is toning DOWN his training for the Hughes fight. He felt that working in the ring all day hurt him for the GSP fight. He states (in this online article) that he is going back to the training that won him the Mundials in 2000 which is pretty much straight BJJ everyday.

IF that article was true I see Penn gassing out by the mid 2nd round and Hughes taking complete control at that point. If not it could be another Penn win.

I am going with Hughes by maj dec in this one.

That was my quote from the FIRST page of this thread. Am I a GENIUS or what?

Ok I AM surprised Matt finished him but I was certain Penn would gas by the end of the 2nd!

haha... good call! apparently BJ separated a rib or something when he took Hughes' back, so he tried real hard to finish him at the end of the round.

I was really surprised to see BJ run out of steam so early... Hughes fought a good fight though... I thought it was over when BJ got his back... overall good viewing... What is up with "the Crow"??? if he would have put pressure on Swick in the early stages of the fight he would have won hands down!! Is he still reeling from that loss to Rich??? A shame....
I loved what GSP said to Hughes after the fight, I'll assume that some of the sting was from GSP's lack of english, but overall sets us up for an awesome re-match... will that fight be in November? or later?

Well the UFC likes to rotate their champions on PPV's The current order of their rotation is..

Tim Silvia (few ppvs ago)
Chuck Liddel (last ppv)
Matt Hughes (this ppv)
Rich Franklin (next ppv)

So by this table.. Franklin fights next in October, Silvia should fight in November, with a possible double main event that night.. They may have Liddel on this card as well. If not Liddel is slated for a December fight. And the much anticipated rematch of Hughes .vs. GSP should be in Jan to kick off 2007.

The complete turnaround from the 2nd round to the 3rd was shocking. Looked like he had Hughes as his mercy, but BJ barely made it back to his corner. BJ came out flat in the 3rd round and was basically a human punching bag. At that point, it was just a matter of when they'd stop the fight cuz he couldn't even hold his hands up to defend himself anymore. Oh well, it should be a good matchup between Hughes and GSP.

well I havent seen it confirmed but Penn is claiming a rib injury however even at full health we have seen him gas in the past.

However Hughes strength and style takes alot of energy to combat against. Defending takedowns aint easy!
