| Why do guys say baby - honey - sweetie Posted: 11/20/2006 1:16:20 PM | Some might say its a bad habit, but I confess I call a lot of women "sweetheart" or "sweetness" or "honey" even if its just someone i'm standing in line with at the bank, or my waitress. Most seem to like it or don't care one way or the other. I'm a little "old school" in that aspect. I have been told at times its not really politically correct to be doing this........well its just me and my appreciation for the opposite sex.....scuse me!
As far as when I'm in a relationship, ummmmm, pet names just don't really do it for me you know? I sometimes find them sickening......lol

| Why do guys say baby - honey - sweetie Posted: 11/20/2006 2:11:26 PM | I don't understand why you have a problem with it. It is exactly what you said it was, a "word of endearment" If you were to tell ME you had a problem with me calling you "baby" or "sweetie" I might think you were a stuck up ****.
But it's funny that you accuse this of guys...I find women tend to use these terms FAR more often than guys do. Guys usually reserve pet names for someone they feel close to or are attracted to. Women will just call any guy "hon" or "sweetie" for no reason whatsoever. Listen to just about any waitress or bartender serving a drink to a single guy, I guarantee you'll hear it.

| Why do guys say baby - honey - sweetie Posted: 11/21/2006 5:58:40 PM | C'mon Baby,
Lighten up, it's just affectionate name-calling darlin'.
They're pet names, babe. Not to be taken so seriously. Know what I'm saying, honey?
They DO know your name, cutie, but it's a safe way to compliment you without having to come right out and say it.
They don't mean anything condescending by it, muffin, just making conversation.
We do it to our friends too...we just use curse words instead.

| Why do guys say baby - honey - sweetie Posted: 1/14/2008 11:04:49 PM | Well i would say we call our ladies that as a sign of affection and possibly as a result everyone hearing us knows we are taken by each other. Also it is designed to go to your head so you know how special you are to us and feel that way around us! We want you to think your a princess and should be treated like one! Well this is my opinion on the subject anyways! | |

| Why do guys say baby - honey - sweetie Posted: 1/14/2008 11:32:10 PM | I've never called anyone 'baby' or 'sweetie pie' or anything like that unless i was purposely trying to get under their skin or joke around.
I perfer to call a lady by her actual birth name.
I'm wierd like that.

| Why do guys say baby - honey - sweetie Posted: 1/16/2008 9:00:12 AM | I grew up in the South where it's common for everyone to use endearments like that (I still do it myself). I know it annoys people from other parts of the country, so I try to keep it to a minimum, or for close friends.
That said, I often think that guys do it so they don't have to worry about using the wrong real name.

| Why do guys say baby - honey - sweetie Posted: 1/16/2008 9:13:02 AM | It is a term of indearment. In France they say, 'petit chou-fleur' (little cauliflower) So take your pick lol... baby!
Could be worse, they could say you are a babe and then ask you if you've seen the film!

| Why do guys say baby - honey - sweetie Posted: 1/16/2008 10:32:54 AM | I rarely use the terms myself, and sometimes feel uncomfortable about them even coming from someone I'm close to.
The only term I may have used in the last six months was "crazy girl", although she was a bit crazy.
I did recently use the term "honey", but it was during a profile review, and was part of an overall statement intended to be humorous, and in no way intended to be a term of endearment.

Why do guys say "baby" - "honey" - "sweetie"
Because its usually better received than "Emily" - "Stacy" - "Allison" ...especially when her name is Jen. ...or was it Jackie... ....brb!

| Why do guys say baby - honey - sweetie Posted: 1/16/2008 3:15:04 PM | Maybe your first name reminds him of someone else he dated and does not like now???????????????????????????????????????????? To men this is romantic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | |
|
| Why do guys say baby - honey - sweetie Posted: 1/16/2008 3:42:54 PM | If the guy says it right off the bat he's usually a playa or he calls everyone baby - sweetie - and honey. I try to give people personalized nicknames / names of affection so it's not cheap like those simple names.
Maybe the guy can't remember the girl's name or maybe he doesn't like it :-)
