A poem is . . .

written for yourself
before you know the words
and if you are very lucky
someone else finds you
within them

Lovely, Hortense!

A poem is
a stutter from your inmost tongue
spoken to the silent air
asking Are you there?
Are you there?

And do you care?

to de-evolve
coil up in yourself
find your center,
taste your air
feel the vibrations
of your
state of existence,
then stealthily slither
back to humanity
with a souvenir.

a poem is a burden,curse
it keeps you awake
til you can write the verse
some give ,some take

some dry ,some drenched
til one knows for sure
from your heart is wrenched
upon the page is the cure

a poem is...

an opportunity to speak to one whom benign neglect is being practiced on.

....a way to express your hunger, desire, wants, needs, ideas, emotions, or benign neglect.

a poem is...
beautiful therapy.

A poem isn't always what it meant to be:
it often finds itself beside itself,
just fallen off some back room shelf
and wound up with some kind of key,
like clunky keys in children's toys.
It plops itself on paper,
and sets right off to see
if it can really go.
Sometimes, the answer's "No."
And if it's "Yes,"
and all seems likely for success,
it's still too tough to really know,
until somebody sees it, and says,
"Just watch that sucker go!"
But even then, it's anybody's guess.

Yes, undoubtedly! Your poem was way, way better than mine, and your comment above: what subtlety, what rapier-like wit!

A poem is...
a simple rhyme set in motion thru words upon a pixelated screen whether to unveil truth or hide in secrecy a poem is just that...a release to start again another day.....

Why not? they are mine after all
I write whatever words call
just to see them fall
in whom evers hall
without the great squall
of the so called mighty, I brawl....
