I was and have been in the state of the ego era in my mind and it holds true that most guys and waa included lets it lead us. I will say one thing I have found since I came to POF and it is most of the ladies I have found online have been from canada. Just wish i was closer to canada. Do have family there and have been asked several time to move there but I like the south and warm weather. | |

Believe this or not I have run into three people that are like me. Well at least look like me and even went to school with one. What was strange is I never met the guy in the three years I went to the school. Bad part we had the same classes one year just different times. Another funny part to this is the guy had the same first and middle name as myself and the sir name the same except for the last letter. There is one here in Greenville SC and and one in Kankakee Illinois. The first was in North Miami Florida. I pitty the poor guys. To favor a slug like myself.
Ladies as far as dating goes I feel that dating should be pleasurable for both and be yourself no matter what and I do that in all I do. I do tend to get a little rowdy at times but don't we all. | |

Okay, where do I start. yes RD...I would not agree. I do not know what your experiences have been, but that statement was a bit patronizing.
If I am not mistaken, you just patted us on the head and say there, there, dear...you dont REALLY know what you want, do ya?
I see no advantage to settling for less than what I need. I know what these things are.
Some things I can be extreemly flexible with (such as a man's height, or looks) but some things, like intelligence, I need a certain level to be happy.

Posted: 3/19/2005 10:16:58 PM | RD I have to say I agree with you on that to some extent. I do have to disagree that it is women in general. Of all the ladies (and I mean ladies) I have dated only two would settle for something less than they wanted. Since I mentioned my sisters I will use them as examples here if I may. Of the five two knew exactly what they wanted in life and went after it. This was not only in thier careers but in thier men. One went after the men and was not interested in doing a career until later in life. One like you mentioned would settle for less until she went on up in age and now she knows exactly what she wants and will now vary one bit. One however would tell you that she could care less she saw a guy and liked him she went for him. as far as career she knew and went for it. this was at 17 and by the way her daughter is the same way. Her career was to join the army and did so. Was at the white house on 911. has since retired from the army to be at home with her hubby.
Now RD I ask this question? Would it be less interesting if you knew exactly what a woman wanted or would you like to keep the spice in there to find out?
Personally I like the spice in there to find out. and I will say this a friend of mine that is only 21 gave me the best compliment I had ever had in over 20 years. When I went into the place she worked a friend wanted a beer. I knew he was of legal age since he was 32. So I bought the beer. Well behind me in line was a young guy and she carded him. he was old enough and I commented it must be nice to be that young. He was in his early 30s. She looked at me and said and I quote this, "Hell you can't be more than 35. " I smiled and winked at her and told her thank you. The next time I went into the store she asked me why I had said it. I removed my drivers license and handed it to her. Her jaw hit the floor. Now I must mention here that I had my gotee dyed at the time since I have had a gray bread since I was sixteen. took after my great grandfather in that aspect I think.I know this didn't apply to what we were talking of. Now this girl does settle for less that she could get and believe me she could get what ever she wanted. she has the brains and the looks to do it and all she has to do it set her goals and stick to them.

I have been impressed with other posts that you have made. My statement was not meant to be a blanket statement or to say "All women are like this..". I would never go that far to say something like that. However, time and time again throughout my life, I have had women tell me what they wanted in a man and I have seen them end up with the exact opposite. I have had women express to me that they were not interested and then become very interested in me when my attention was turned elsewhere. I have seen battered women who were asked why they just didn't leave the bum to which they replied "But I love him..". What am I supposed to think in light of all this evidence?
Mound, I agree with you. I have known many women who knew exactly what they wanted and went out and obtained it. Especially career wise. My comments were made specifically in choosing a mate. | |

Posted: 3/19/2005 11:22:03 PM | RDtoo, thanks. Didnt mean to jump on ya too hard  , As i overly emphatically posted (LOL) I do know what I need, just have to wait and have a little faith.
Since I dont date women in our age bracket, I don't have the experience of having women flip around romantically.
I have seen it in men, however. Happened to me after a year with one of the most fantastic men I have ever had the pleasure to know. He went back to Iraq (military), and broke things off suddenly. I miss him like my left hand...but you know, I wouldnt go back and change anything (other than still having him near me). Lesson is, you can't MAKE someone love you, or stay when life takes them somewhere else. (This is my mantra right now)
I guess too, I am a bit militant about making sure I do stay on coarse, and not get lured away emotionally by someone with alot of flash, but no substance. Not to say it couldn't happen, but at this point, I think it's unlikely.
Since my divorce, the men I actually have become involved with have been teriffic. I dont let my heart get tangled before I know someone is actually compatible and able put effort into a healthy relationship.
It was not always so, and looking back to my 20's, I had no criteria other than looks, or chemistry, and a few pretty words (along with some bodacious sex). Man, did I ever learn the hard way. Maybe when I do find the special guy in my life, I will be able to appreciate him so much more for the path I took

Attitude is everything and you have an excellent one. Do guys really think (and girls) they can go around slamming other people and win?
Paradoxx, I think we attended the same school of hard knocks. My prequisites concerning a man/boyfriend have changed greatly over the past 27 years. Initially, it was just about having a boyfriend, chemistry and great sex and then a husband. I am almost 48 and the rules have definitely changed for me because of my age and experience. I can't afford mentally or financially or otherwise to take care of a bum, someone who hurts me, emotionally or physically or someone who won't grow up, etc. I have accomplished a lot in life and need to find someone similar with the same drive. I know that we have to be mental peers. Being mental and physical peers is even a better connection. I started dating someone very intriguing and am getting quite smitten. We will see how it goes.  | |
