| | OTTAWA UNITED SINGLES COFFEE CHATS, SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 10THPage 2 of 6 (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6) | Neysado: Browsing through Chapters for lines, ladies and books is a unique idea. It sounds like something worth trying. However, I wonder what kind of lady I can find in the science-fiction section. Better yet, I wonder what kind of line I can find for a lady who is into science-fiction books! By the way, what is your favourite aisle?
The reason behind using Starbuck's is that it is the most convenient meeting spot I can find that has some class and is affordable to most of us. But we ONLY meet there, we do not have to stay there. Most of us will move on to Montanna's because it is empty at 2:00 PM on Sundays. Montanna's can seat at least 100 people, so we will be OK for the Sept. 10 th event at least (since we will probably be around 60 people on Sept 10). However, if some of us wish to stay at Starbuck's, that is an individual decision. The second reason for selecting Starbuck's is that many of us can meet there any Sunday, regardless if we have a scheduled event or not (the talking pole concept). For those of us who wish to meet at Starbuck's on Sunday's on unscheduled days just remember that if you meet someone that is wearing black and is smiling near the outside door is probably one of us, and MOST LIKELY single and looking.

I only wish there was a collection of pick-up-lines used by women. I have never heard any in 48 years.

| OTTAWA UNITED SINGLES COFFEE CHATS, SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 10TH Posted: 9/1/2006 4:23:12 AM | Sylvain: sci-fi is not the only aisle I browse. There's also stuff over in physics, epic fantasy, children's books, psychology, comics... and sometimes the magazine stands.
Besides, I agree with Astar on the fact that a large park would be a good idea, especially for those of us who consider sitting at a table not that sexy. If people routinely go along some parkway (Colonel By, Ottawa river...) to cycle, jog or rollerblade, that could be a way to meet in action...
And oh, dahlia, hot co-organizer, how about we teleport out to an asteroid from where I can see distant stars sparkle in your eyes?

| OTTAWA UNITED SINGLES COFFEE CHATS, SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 10TH Posted: 9/1/2006 4:29:30 AM | SASSY: Starbuck's our Sunday Spot for Smiling Singles. Chances are some of us will be there this Sunday, even though it is not one of our planned events. Please remember that if you see someone smiling, who is wearing black, that person is likely one of us. Be bold and explore strange new worlds.
Sylvain
P.S. I don't know if you are noticing it, but we have an equal mix of males to females for Sept. 10th. I thank the men for answering your request, ladies!

| OTTAWA UNITED SINGLES COFFEE CHATS, SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 10TH Posted: 9/1/2006 4:07:36 PM | | Heh, sylvain... two scifi quotes so far, in two consecutive messages of yours: one a paraphrase of the Star Trek motto, explore strange new worlds and boldly go where no date ever took you before, and the other one 'from the internet' is Zaphod Beeblebrox picking up an Earth girl from a party - she eventually got to marry him in one universe and have a kid with the guy who was left behind in another universe. Yep, the Hitchhiker's guide series is fun indeed. Too bad Douglas Adams (RIP) went away and left it unfinished- and on a really sad note at that. | |

| OTTAWA UNITED SINGLES COFFEE CHATS, SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 10TH Posted: 9/1/2006 4:44:40 PM | Hey Dalia, I've been a sci-fi nut from way back! In grade school, I had my favorite Asimov and Heinlein, etc. novels. My brother & I had to watch the VERY FIRST Star Trek episode. I also have a book that is an encyclopedia of all the original Star Trek episodes (cast lists and all). Imagine Sylvain thinking he couldn't find some really fine and gorgeous and intelligent women in the science fiction aisle. Maybe Montreal is not so cosmopolitan after all!
See you next Sunday. Deb

| OTTAWA UNITED SINGLES COFFEE CHATS, SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 10TH Posted: 9/3/2006 8:23:54 AM | Thanks, Ken, for taking the initiative and telling us about it. I hope others will do the same, especially the men, since women usually outnumber men at social events and they have good reason to compain about that. Even if we don't find our soulmates at this or any other event, we sure can have fun meeting kindred spirits and making new friends, perhaps even business contacts.
Our events are free (we do encourage you to buy at least a coffee for the sake of our venue host). I am happy if even only 20 people show up, as long as it is the right crowd.
Please let your other single friends know about our events.
By the way, if several people who share a common interest show up, they can form sub-groups:
Examples of possible sub-groups:
-Language or culture related (French, Spanish) -Location-based (city, suburbs, farm) -Activity-related (moviegoers, hikers, riders, debaters) -Profession-based (IT, Government, Hospitality, Construction) -Others: (please specify)

| OTTAWA UNITED SINGLES COFFEE CHATS, SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 10TH Posted: 9/3/2006 9:28:06 AM | | Ken, are you asking about the Coffee Chat or the Fall Ball? To answer, the Coffee Chat is at Ogilvie and Blair intersections, so if you had to say closer to St. Laurent or Montreal Road, I would have to say Montreal Road. Check out a map and you'll see what I mean. The Fall Ball location is not finalized, there is a lot of discussion yet on that. | |

| OTTAWA UNITED SINGLES COFFEE CHATS, SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 10TH Posted: 9/3/2006 4:18:17 PM | Hi all...
Thinking of attending the coffee/chat. Will be my first, so I am a bit shy at first. I am also attending the dance at the LoneStar - hopefully will meet/connect with some of you there and that way won't be so "shy" to go to the coffee.....
I am all the way in the West end and will be travelling by bus.... will do my best to come. Any chance of starting a coffee/chat in the West end

| OTTAWA UNITED SINGLES COFFEE CHATS, SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 10TH Posted: 9/4/2006 4:58:35 AM | About Fall Ball...
Attire: Formal
Hi Sylvain
Could you please define what you mean when you say formal attire?
Many of the people on here may not understand what that means beyond no jeans. Ottawa is a pretty informal city, and business attire can mean anything from shorts from Giant Tiger to jeans to a $5000 suit.
Not everyone on here has a ballgown or tux in their closet.
