An OCD girlfriend is something that I'd dread,
All those repetitive actions....
But, having said that, I dunno,
What else can you do in bed!

This morning while scrubbing my nails clean..............it occurred to me...........oh shoot, I do this every morning..............

Get out of bed..................visit the little throne in the princess room...............after flushing, I don't just wash my hands, I scrub my finger nails as well................

.................I can't stand looking at dirty fingers nails first thing in the morning...............it makes me wonder where they were scratching during the night and if it is still under their nails in the morning......................yucky................

my niece has OCD, she cut her arms recently and now has a person who comes to her house every day to talk to her about how she is feeling, she also has a thing about not being able to go to sleep before 2am, if she tries she gets the feeling that something bad will happen so waits til after 2am to go to sleep, also her son who is 1 year old will not walk over the rug in the kitchen he walks round it, i wonder if hes copying her?

I think i have an OCD

I can not walk past the computer without going into the POF site. I have been to the doctor this morning to see if theres anything my GP can do for me.
He gave me a hammer and i asked him what was that for and he told me to smash the computer up with it.

I HATE odd numbers..... i cannot buy a piece of cheese or fresh meat from the supermarket if the price ends in an odd number...... i cant have the TV volume on an odd number.....no idea where i got this from. I used to have another one in my teens when i had to touch everything with both hands.... so frustrating, cos i knew i was being daft!!

i have to open any packaging the right way up and if its something that has to be done from one side eg bag of frozen food it has to be done from the side the front writing begins, if i accidently open something wrong i cannot use it and it goes straight in the bin. my food in the cupboards has to be just so, but the fridge and freezer can be however it lands

no idea what started it or even when but it does get annoying when its the last tin of beans and i am not concetrating

I cannot understand why people always say when I tell them I have OCD, ''Oh I have that a little bit too, I like to have all my cups in size order, and my towels spotless'' thats being tidy not OCD. OCD is where the sufferer experiences repetitive and UNWANTED thoughts constantly which will mostly but not always lead the sufferer on to carrying out an action. Such as the handwashing and the straightening of objects. But again, this is only half of what OCD is.

When you are utterly convinced that someone you love will get hurt if you don't do something, and then over and over again you keep doing it.
When you self - harm because the thoughts you encounter make you sick.
To worry incessantly about HIV and fatal illnesses and constantly check yourself for signs of these, and then when you ''find'' something to back up the OCD even more rituals and panic.

OCD seems to be so fashionable these days, it isn't when you live with it day in day out.

I havent listed half of what OCD can do, it isn't funny at all.

Mines cleaning! The more stressed I am, the cleaner things need to be!

I also notice that I walk to a count of ten sometimes, but I have to start at 1 on the left foot (have no idea why!!)

Thank you Joanne for such an informative and concise post

OCD is NOTHING like what many posters have described. It is awful, horrendous and causes people to be prisoners in their own homes at times.
CBT and medication can really help though, I would recommend that anyone who suffers from this crippling condition to see their GP and get the help that they deserve to move on and lead a happy life.

Wow! Lot's of people being very brave here and admitting lots of things. I take my hat off to all of you

Not sure if I have OCD as such but I suffer massively with panic attacks and anxiety.

Of course you get the good old fashioned "pull yourself together" routine from some people, like my ex. But unless you have ever had a full blown panic attack then I don't think you will ever understand.

Luckily my GP is fantastic and he hit the nail right on the head when I was talking to him about it. I said "When it happens I feel like I am going to die!"

He corrected me and said "No, when it happens you know you are going to die!"

And he is right. At that time that is exactly how you feel

I used to stutter and picked up a few nervous ticks as a kid, such as 'throat clearing' and a sort of 'neck craning'. My mum was an old fashioned type and got me out of them by checking me every time I 'ticked'. Slowed my speaking down to stop the stutter. I also had a period of panic attacks mid-life but never got any rational fears up to the level of a phobia.

I have consciously tried to limit anything I was doing habitually, because at some level I felt it may have become out of my control to stop. On one hand I don't have anything resembling OCD but I do have a fear of adopting habitual and compulsive behaviour.

Sorry for double posting, but did forget to mention last night, that for people who are suffering, there are treatments and please go and talk to your GP about it. CBT is widely used to control OCD and some medications can take the edge of the thoughts and anxiety. OCD is not unbeatable.

Well its all very well and funny unil you have/know sombody who has full blown OCD.

Checking the oven is turned off is common sense.

Unless you have O.C.D you cant really understand what its like-being stuck in you own head like your thoughts have padlocks on them that you cant un-do unless you carry out some kind of stupid ritual- that you know full well is totally stupid!

I know an awful lot of people who suffer with it and its not at all funny!! its scary and can take over your life!

Its also extremely common! My best friend has huge problems with it and has talked it over with me many times. Its scary!

I don't have OCD but there are some things that I have to do, like the towels have to hang right on the rail in the bathroom & be even. The tins in the cupboard have to be in order, right way up & label facing front & I nearly have a breakdown if there are coats or shoes in the hallway
