This movie was so bad. Much of it is middle eastern people speaking with no translation.

I like Nick Cage, but he has certainly made a few odd choices. This ranks high among the weirdest... Idiotic plot, dissonant & choppy dialogue, performances all phoned in... If you paid to see this; you got hosed....

Anyone ever watch Eraserhead?
It's pretty good---but only if you have the attention span and wakefulness to sit through it and really pick up on the little things. The kind of artsy flick that requires a good bit of caffeine beforehand.

"The Unbearable Lightness Of Being" Just trust me on this one...
The book is way better but the movie's not bad. The sex scenes are absolutely SMOKIN' especially the one where Lena Olin is crawling around wearing nothing but the bowler hat.
And Daniel Day-Lewis is hilarious, in the movie he has this divine gift of saying "Take your clothes off" in a monotone that always achieves the desired result with the ladies.

"I Heart Buckabees" Great actors, terrible movie. A film about existentialism? Just...no.
You have to be familiar with Eastern thought, specifically Buddhism (which is the original and much more highly developed type of "existentialism"), to "get" this one. If you do, it's incredibly hilarious.
The director, David Russell, spent something like 6 years living at a Zen monastery in the Catskills. He also made "Three Kings" which is more mass-oriented.

| Movies to never rent.... Posted: 12/16/2008 11:38:30 AM | Breaking The Waves, Requiem for a Dream, Last Exit to Brooklyn (like watching a train wreck, good if you're a sadist)
Napoleon Dynamite, Year of the Dog (too much geek-chic gets tiresome)
War of the Worlds (Dakota Fanning acts circles around Tom Cruise, lol)
Jerry Maguire, Grand Canyon, Crash (preachy & corny)
GENERALLLY: anything directed by Steven Spielberg (except for Catch Me If You Can and the first 20 minutes of Saving Private Ryan)
any movie that has either zero critics' recs on the DVD box, or obscure critics only
movies that Rex Reed likes have at least a 90% chance of being stinkers

| Movies to never rent.... Posted: 12/16/2008 9:19:19 PM | | I have a universal axiom about bad films- any film promoted by an airhead celeb with a clip on the talk show circuit has a high probability of being mentally toxic. I doubt that Ben Cross made the rounds of the talkies with a clip of Chariots of Fire...... | |

I would have to agree a waste of time.On the other hand the original with Edward fox and Britt ekland was quite good IMHO.
Also never rent or even watch a pauly shore movie.

| Movies to never rent.... Posted: 12/29/2008 2:18:14 PM | A few movies i walked out of when they were in theaters:
Twit Kelly Goodbye Lover Crash (David Cronenberg film - I wanted a refund WITH interests... ) Existenz (Another Cronenberg - WHat? he was my favourite director for a LONG time when i was young. I thought Crash was a mistake from his part...But he has definitely lost it - He is the worst director in Hollywood now... after Boll of course ) Rented and DO NOT RENT: Search & Destroy C'est arrivé près de chez vous M. Butterfly (ANOTHER Cronenberg!) Everything Godard Everything Ingmar Bergman
The last couple David Lynch since Mulholland Drive The last couple Terry Gilliams.
The movie i watched until the end and that i declared worst picture i ever saw when it ended:
HISTORY OF VIOLENCE - by.. . who else... DAVID CRONENBERG.
THE WORST FILM I EVER SAW.

I know exactly what you mean. But like i said on another thread, don't use your reasonning for that one... or any lynch for that matter. I didn't like MD either, but it is worth watching at least once. Like i said, you gotta think INSIDE the box for that one... since well, we are already OUTSIDE of it to begin with (if you saw the movie, you'll get what i mean. You need to put yourself IN that box there... you remember? then, you'll realize that you'll probably get the movie. somehow. maybe.

I've only seen the first one, it wasn't too bad considering the genre. Keira Knightley is very easy on the eyes...
