Age is a label....
If one is bothered by the label, then do something to change the label.

Funny thing about feelings.... if we feel old we are old
So, I make myself feel young by taking care of my health; body and mind.

Dreams are good.... still have one major dream and it keeps me young by working on my body strength....

Fortunately, my job exercises my brain....

Old is only in your mind. And it's a hell of a lot better than the alternative.....

I wish I could sound positive but truthfully I really hate it. My mind doesn't feel old, but my body does at times. I have aches and pains that I never thought I would have. I think with a 30 year old heart and then walk across the living room and catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror and am almost startled... who is that older person looking out of my eyes. I am 52 and I am finding it a strange place to be, too young for the retirement community and too old for the social arenas. This age is actually the lonliest I have ever experienced and I just hope it isn't the start of more to come. I am still young enough and healthy enough to stay active, but I do get scared of what may be down the road.

It also feels sad to be heading towards the downsizing stage of my life. Instead of building up a career or business I am starting the reverse process. In that respect there is nothing ahead of me. I need to find new goals, a new direction, and it is taking a bit of time for me to figure out where to go now. I am usually a positive person, but this aging thing is proving to be a bit more difficult than I expected.

Hang in there Ginnie. I'm right behind you at 50 but I looked in the mirror in different light today and saw a shocking amount of grey. Suddenly I feel as if life's clock took a big TICK on me - and I'm normally not one to dwell on such things.

Maybe all we can do is make an effort to preserve what we have left physically while we work hard to excercise what we have mentally. They say it is less unreasonable every day to expect to make it to 100. It's up to us to make the most of it.

In 25 years, a generation that can't add 2 plus 3 without a calculator, can't spell ' you ' correctly or practice simple, basic manners will be running the governments of North America. I am old enough now that I either won't be around or I won't care. Thank God for that.

Gosh boneyjoe, sounds like you're saying 62 is a BYOP (Bring Yer Own Partner) sort of an age. I guess I need to get serious and establish something more permanent before I get there myself.

Of course that's probably a lot less about lowering expectations than it is improving oneself.

I felt worse turning 30 than I did 40 or 50. Getting old sure beats the alternative.

I turned 50 in April and I have to admit I've had a bit of a problem with it. I don't know how I got to 50. Just a couple of years ago I was celebrating my 30th!

I think the biggest realization/shock/eyeopener is that I've reached this age alone. Thats what scares me.

It's never bothered me much until maybe the last year. I'm starting to finally look older around the eyes and am realizing the liklihood of being alone forever is pretty great. But like someone else said, what can you do? Everyone gets old - I guess the best thing to do is give today your attention.

Hi "Are".. I'll be 55 soon and, really, honestly love the age I'm at. I wouldn't go back for anything. But I will say that I was REAL apprehensive just before turning 40 and again just before turning 50. Once I actually reached those decades I was fine with it, and at this point I've decided that every age has its advantages. Anyway, just do what it takes to be the best you can be.. and I hope your dread of aging vanishes.

I think our bodies are far less forgiving than they were and it takes eating right and plenty of exercise, outdoor activities, etc. to keep in shape, ie take work now where it didnt earlier. Our metabolisms slow down, which make us less likely to pursue physical activity and set in motion putting on weight, being more sedentary, eating for pleasure instead of health, and so on. You look at someone who is 70 who works out and eats well compared to someone who stuffs themselves and is sedentary ...and ask how they feel.

I guess its more the getting old alone that scares the hell outta me than the getting old it’s self.

Middle aged.....half-way to dead, or half of your life left.....which is it?

I'm planning on finding a time warp so not concerned in the least about getting old. There's always reincarnation of that fails. What, me worry?
