Being alone and growing isn't so bad. It's all in attitude! Sure it would be nice to have someone grow old(er) with, but if it doesn't happen there are lots of things you can do to be happy!

This is how I feel [in case I haven't said it before] - I know I'm getting old when ...

You're older than your dentist.
It takes you two tries to get up from the couch.
A telephone rings on the TV and you think it's yours.
90% of your dreams are reruns.
You no longer say "No thanks" to the lobster bib.
The only "Stones" you're interested in these days are Kidney and Gall.
For the first time you have to deal with nose hair.
Corduroy is king.
Your computer has more memory than you do.
You bring lawn chairs to outdoor concerts.
People warn you about shoveling snow.
You schedule sex.
You go from being a do-it-yourselfer to a hire-someone-elser.
You don't have bad hair days, you have bad hair years.
Finally, you can use words like "titillate," "shuttlecock" and "Uranus" without laughing.
You start appreciating larger fonts.

Horselady, that was great, thanks for the laugh...except the part about bad hair days...I don't have those. Scheduled sex for me seems like every 5 years or so...and I'm behind schedule.

Ok folks, lets quit complaining about getting old, here are some of the benefits of getting older

1. In a hostage situation, you are likely to be released first.

2. It's harder fro sexual harrassment charges to stick.

3 No one expects you to run into a burnig building.

4. People no longer view you as a hypochondriac.

5. Theres nothing left to learn the hard way.

6. Things you buy now won't wear out.

7. You can live without sex, but not your glasses.

8 You can't remember the last time you lay on the floor to watch tv.

9. You constantly talk about the high price of gasoline.

10 You enjoy hearing about other people's operations.

11 You get into intense arguments about pension plans.

12 You have a party and the neighbours don't realize it.

13 You quit trying to hold your stomach in no matter who walks in.

14 You send money to PBS.

15 You sing along wwith the elevator music.

16. You talk about "good grass" and your referring to someone's lawn.

17 Your arms are almost too short to read the newspaper.

18 Your investment in health insurance is finally beginning to pay off.

19 Your secrets are safe with friends because they can't remember them either.

20 Your supply of brain cells is finally down to a manageble level.

Someone gave this to me t work today, I just had to share.

I agree with ernd About the fear of growing old alone. The fear of not having someone to share ,love and beloved in your remaining years is scary and sad .Esspecially since you had that glorious feeling and experience for 31 years and now you have to start over It isn't easy Dating is not the same as when you were younger . Sometimes I wounder if you can find love more than once . Am I meant to live the rest of my life alon? That scares me ! That why I try so hard and I am determine to find true love again. Will it ever happen? I am not giving up I am not a quiter. So if your out there read my profile and contact me

I don't have a fear of growing old alone. In reading these forums I see that every situation is different, and it doesn't matter what the age, some have had long loving relationships and others have been lonely and alone when they were married. From what I see from the people who have known love and lost it, either by divorce or death, they have a better chance of finding true love again. That is not saying that it can't happen to those of us who were not so fortunate to have known love, and if it does happen, I'm sure it would blow our socks off!

Cant say Im happy about it. I cant eat what I want anymore and I find more aches and pains in new areas on my body every week. Never thought Id be going through this but now I understand what my older friends and members of my family had been complaining about for years. All you can do is take better care of your body and get a better relationship with your family doctor for preventative measures. Exercise, water and dietary changes.

There's a line in a song by Jimmy Buffett that sums it up for me....I'd rather die while I'm living than live while I'm dead. I'm gonna live life to it's fullest.

I'm with Aged Wonder. I do not fear growing old alone, and in fact I am looking forward to it. Nobody telling me what to do, announcing that we are going to visit some people that annoy the hell out of me.... no thanks.

My dog and I live quite well alone, thank you.

I think of it like a slow march towards incontinence. It doesn't bother me a bit. If the alternative was to grow younger each passing day, I would hang myself with a rope made of Depends. On a cheery note: things to do that suspend time and make us feel ageless include walking in the woods, making love, and riding motorcycles.

The older the fiddle the better the tunes, isn't that they say???

I have no problem moving on up in age. It seems some people do though and there're going to get there too real soon and they may do it alone. It's all about life, what do yoy want is the question...

I think age is kind of a relative thing. When you're in your teens, 30 is old. When you're in your 30's, 50's and up seems old, and on and on....
I don't think much about how old I am other than when I have aches and pains, or forget things. Each day seems like a bonus and I'm grateful for it.
Being alone at this age is hard sometimes, but there are a lot of us in the same boat. I know there are many who have much harder problems to deal with than I do.
Getting older is the natural course of things and just part of life.

Hey there, Isthar! I started reading this and realized about half way down the page...its a year old!

But thanks for waking it back up.

Yeah, old age. I freaked out one day when I saw my mother looking back at me in the mirror!!!! Then, I realized something was different. Maybe it was the way I dressed or perhaps in the expression on my face. Whatever. It was not really my mother, who was NOT a happy camper...it was me...and I AM a relatively happy camper.

I'm alot healthier than she was at this age...and a whole lot happier human being.

Just today a friend of mine who is atleast ten years younger than me commented on how much younger me and another friend look! Made me feel pretty good. My other friend is 58 but you'd never know it by her looks or the way she acts.

p.s. You would have never caught my mom hiking in the woods or rafting down the river at this age...nosiree!

Me? Well, I'm still pretty active and love life. Maybe thats the "Fountain of Youth" everyone keeps looking for...its the way you feel inside and your willingness to accept growing old with grace.

p.s....you never would have caught my mom hiking in the woods or rafting down the river at this age...no siree!!!

Aging to perfection here. Full and robust, but damn! I refuse to hit that vinegary stage

I have friends who are terrified of getting older. I tell them its only the body that changes. The 'you' inside can stay the same if you let it. A lot has to do with one's outlook on life. If you're a positive and upbeat person, then getting older shouldn't be such a big deal. Yes, with age comes a natural progression of physical changes - slowing down, memory's maybe not as sharpe, you tire more easily. However, if you keep busy, do things you enjoy, keep positive and try to distance yourself (when possible) from those who are filled with bitterness and negative energies, aging isn't such a big deal.

When I turned 55 I was so excited. It meant I now qualified for some discounts when shopping. Can't WAIT til I hit 60! Means even more perks like no banking fees!! wohoooooo! 65 will be the biggy - RETIREMENT!! Told my son, when he chooses my nursing home it better have 2 things - men in SLOW wheelchairs so I can catch them and access to a PC so I can PRETEND to be a 'young hottie' and cyber Payback's going to be soooooooo much fun!!

Have fun getting older folks! Oil of Olay won't keep those wrinkles from fading and all the cologen enjections in the world won't change who you really are!

Getting old is the triumph of delusion over stark reality. It sifts through memories, discarding the least and revising the greatest. It imagines a wonderful afterlife or the peace of oblivion. It prizes obsolete wisdom. It fashions a cloak of modest dignity to conceal decrepitude. How I feel about getting old does not matter because it happens anyway, so I don't think about it lest that becomes how I think about life.

Well since its something completely beyond my control, I choose to accept it and yet defeat it. I'm determined to keep my youthful spirit, both mind and body in tack until the men in the little white jackets come and tell me otherwise. Life is for living...not worrying about that, which we cant change. Have a great day!
