| *~*~* Wing night in Red Deer!!!!!! *~*~* Posted: 4/18/2007 12:43:28 AM | Maybe, if you came to an event or two and actually met some of the wings crowd, they might consider bringing an event to you sometime (or not).
I have made it very clear that I can not attend the current event because I am working. Perhapse if you read my post.. It is clear that you do not since you seem to think it is also all about me. I wish it were, but unlike some of the people that do this wing night, it is not about me or any one person. I am not trying to steal your friends or break up your party. I am only listing another location for wings.
After all, the thread is called "wing night in red deer". I am only talking about wings. I don't mean to cut in on any of your action. Though for how much a couple of you defend your location I am starting to wonder how big your cut is for the business your brining in. It's not much different than your own shameless promotion of Bo's.

I notice alot of the time people on here talk about wings its almost assumed its going to be at Bo's...change is good and variety is the spice of life.

| *~*~* Wing night in Red Deer!!!!!! *~*~* Posted: 4/18/2007 1:03:50 AM | I have to agree, I have seen alot of people talk about wing in diffrent areas of the forums. Allmost all of them refer to Bo's.
I also recall the post someone made on here about posting proof some people were getting "cuts" from bringing people from sites like POF en-mass to places like Bo's. The post was promptly removed yet there was some compelling evidence given.
I will prob hit metro for wings to see what their like, truth be told I really dont see whats so special about Bo's wings, I liked BP's wings better for the most part.
Never been to metro or tried any of their food, but I have to agree with shy_reddeer_guy variety is good. I'll be there on monday to try em out.
Also for gemini_guy, I know what its like being unable to attend alot of the scheduled social events on here, for various reasons. So I dont fault you for promoting something other then Bo's. And yes 10c wings are tempting.

| *~*~* Wing night in Red Deer!!!!!! *~*~* Posted: 4/18/2007 6:28:05 AM | Gemini_Guy, RedDeerShyGuy and reddeer pofer -
None of us get a cut from anywhere. We just really happen to like Bo's! Also, if you read through the posts right from the beginning (ugh...that's some reading) you'll see that they've tried some other places without as much success. Sure, variety is good - but there is also something to be said for having one place where the group tends to go as it makes it easy for new people to join us.
To that point, there tend to be a core group of us who go to Wing Night (or just out on Wednesday / Thursday). It's actually not so much about Wings (as this week we're going on Thursday , which is not Wing Night at Bo's) as having a weekly excuse to do something social with other Red Deer POF'rs.
Any or all of you are welcome to join us as and when your work schedule permits. OR - if it doesn't, to start a thread suggesting an alternate venue, event and/or location.
To quote FireGal "We love fresh fish"
We really do! We love to have new people join us. I myself only started going out in January and have found the group to be very friendly and welcoming to newcomers. I guess what we don't so much love is when people we've never met try to hijack what to us is a chance to go somewhere that we like to meet other POF'rs and drink beer (and usually a wing or two is had at the same time).

| *~*~* Wing night in Red Deer!!!!!! *~*~* Posted: 4/18/2007 9:34:51 AM | They have out of town POF ers sometimes join the soire into beer and wings.. but because of the shifting of the globe.. or the misalignment of planets , or the failure of the GPS tracking system they tend to end up very close to the actual location but not actually in it, therefore enjoy beer and wings El Solo. One day I tell ya.. one day success will be mine!!!
Oh yeah the new gift thing is cool.. I got a stapler and an empty pickle jar today :-) My, aren't I the popular one!!

| *~*~* Wing night in Red Deer!!!!!! *~*~* Posted: 4/18/2007 9:48:52 AM | RCL -
Sorry about the emptiness of the aforementioned pickle jar. I went on a pickle eating frenzy this morning and then sent you the jar. (what? what does that mean!?)
Also - wasn't that YOU who sat across from me last week? or do you have a less directionally challenged twin brother?
I will never stop mocking you for your initial attempt to join us at Bo's for Wing Night and ending up at the Blarney Stone. NEVER!

| *~*~* Wing night in Red Deer!!!!!! *~*~* Posted: 4/18/2007 5:00:54 PM | I think I'm gonna put this whole Diesel and/or Metro thing to rest ASAP. I'm gonna try their wings, and if they're as good as Bo's, I'll make a run at diverting people to Diesel just for a change of venue. Frankly, I think Metro is a bit north for most of the ppl who go for wings at Bo's (seems most of us are in the south side, no?). Perhaps a completely unique thread for Metro would be a good plan, simply because there are POFers in the north end who would likely consider that a viable option.
Seeing as I was one of the original Wing attendees, not to mention the person who ultimately said "Let's try Bo's wings" (months ago), I will say this: Wings at some of the other places we tried, were sometimes BRUTAL, sometimes marginal, other times, "acceptable" at best. We even got our money back (well, one girl did as she expressed her dismay) for one of the places. MOST of the people who have been to Bo's for wings seem to like their wings. People come from Calgary/Edmonton for both the people and the wings. Can't be a fluke.
Bo's is a stable place for us, as there is a thing called "comfortable familiarity." I can not speak for Bo, though I DO know him, but I'm highly doubtful that he pays ANYONE to go to his establishment. He doesn't have to. I should know why that is.
Once in a while we DO get adventurous and try a new place, often with little success. So I'll tell ya what - I WILL go to Diesel in the coming days to see what their wings are like. This is bullSH!T that there is so much dissent over focking chicken wings though, and the way I see it, if a person were that badly in need of people coming to a different bar/pub for wings, perhaps a new thread would do the job. They do it all the time in Calgary for karaoke (they don't have a general karaoke thread).
It should be known that a thread about "someone getting kickbacks" would be deleted for blatantly obvious reasons - read the forum rules about what's acceptable.
In the meantime, majority rules. If people want to go to a certain place... so be it. It's a comfort zone for some who are not good at "new environments." I like breaking away from my comfort zone all the time. Of course, it's not right for some people to say where people can and cannot go (if that's what they intended to say). No one here should feel obligated to attend one specific meeting. I certainly am not seen every week at the same place.
End of rant - party on, fishies.
|
| *~*~* Wing night in Red Deer!!!!!! *~*~* Posted: 4/18/2007 5:42:22 PM | Wings..meh Location...who cares Night....flexible Really, it is all about the fishies!!! When you look back on this thread you can see that many a fish has been accomodated by the majority changing the evening or the location. Maybe Gemini should suggest an evening he is not working and let the location figure itself out. Really it would be difficult to meet or chat with you Gemini while you are working anyhows. | |

| *~*~* Wing night in Red Deer!!!!!! *~*~* Posted: 4/18/2007 6:02:56 PM | If a person works in the public eye, they're not safe from me chatting them up... live bands and DJs across western Canada should know that. LOL. And I believe he said something about hanging out with us while working, and that sounds about right for the job.
If it weren't for the Canucks game, I'd likely even go there tomorrow.
|
| *~*~* Wing night in Red Deer!!!!!! *~*~* Posted: 4/18/2007 7:44:51 PM | Just a quick little note......Diesel has been closed for a while now...
and with my pool this week once again I will not be able to make it to Bo's (we have a double header) but that means we will be at Billy Bob's till late ...... so if any of you looking for a place after wings I will be there....... ........... .......... ........
|
| *~*~* Wing night in Red Deer!!!!!! *~*~* Posted: 4/18/2007 10:33:38 PM | Well you will have a hard time getting to the diesel since it no longer exists in Red Deer. I am quite sure I mentioned that in a post.. If not. Now you know. The Diesel was bought out by royal la page. They wanted the building for office space and gave the owner a deal he couldn't say no to.
So the Metro is now the place to be. For me at least. It's like the firm but no so stuffy, it has hands down the friendliest staff I have ever known.
I did DJ one of the first PoF events in town at Wild Bills. I didn't get as much mingling in as I had hoped, but I scored a contract for band production all that summer so it was ok.
I do a good job at mingling when I am Djing when I can. I actually go out to tables at the metro and take requests. I am trying a very personal and friendly touch that you wont find at any other club/bar. I am hoping the personal touch will be more apreciated and create some regulars. Though the owners do want a pretty specific mix of music.

| *~*~* Wing night in Red Deer!!!!!! *~*~* Posted: 4/19/2007 12:44:11 AM | Oh, as for creating a new thread about the Metro and some of the things it can offer POFers... I tried a few times and they were promptly voted off... Even when listed as a PoF get to gether place for an event.
Funny how that is. | |

| *~*~* Wing night in Red Deer!!!!!! *~*~* Posted: 4/19/2007 7:07:51 AM | | So "other than Bo's" or "Blarney's"......Where is a good busy place to go for good cheap wings and the hockey game?? Not a fan of Bo's....the service sucks, and Blarney is a dump. | |

"Bad service at Bo's" is a personal experience thing, not a general knowledge thing. I happen to know that when it's packed in there, there can only be X amount of people working and that sometimes means doing the math and ordering two drinks at a time, much like at any other ultra-busy place. I get great service at Bo's overall. Blarney south, not so much.. I could be sitting AT the bar with five people in the whole place and still wait a while to order my next drink. Apparently randomly looking in other directions is a pre-requisite for some of the girls there. lol.
ROIT!
I have posted a new thread for Metro. If it gets deleted, I am going to delete my profile from POF. Good luck to those who want to pretend to be a MOD and delete a POF EVENT thread for no reason.
As for this thursday, I'm out. Canucks are playing. I'll be watching it at home, most likely......

| *~*~* Wing night in Red Deer!!!!!! *~*~* Posted: 4/19/2007 3:57:16 PM | Toad and Turtle could be another option for wings for those looking for a South Side option. Went there once on wing night (but had already eatern some horrible wings at Blarney South) and it was busy but a good atmosphere and good looking/smelling wings!
Just throwing an idea out there...
