| COLLEGE FOOTBALL SEASON Posted: 11/16/2008 3:43:16 PM | | He also said it at halftime two days before he got elected president, it would be a good thing if h can influence the bcs to have a playoff type championship | |

Swofford: We 'welcome dialogue on what's best for college football' ESPN.com news services
Updated: November 17, 2008, 12:29 PM ET Comment Email Print
President-elect Barack Obama would like a college football playoff. The BCS' response? We'll listen, but ...
BCS coordinator John Swofford responded to a stepped-up playoff push by Obama that was broadcast on CBS' "60 Minutes" on Sunday. President-elect Obama also lobbied for a college football playoff in an interview with ESPN that was broadcast the night before the presidential election during halftime of Monday Night Football.
"First of all I want to congratulate newly elected President Obama and I am glad he has a passion for college football like so many other Americans," Swofford said in a statement. "For now, our constituencies -- and I know he understands constituencies -- have settled on the current BCS system, which the majority believe is the best system yet to determine a national champion while also maintaining the college football regular season as the best and most meaningful in sports."
Swofford added: "We certainly respect the opinions of president-elect Obama and welcome dialogue on what's best for college football."
Obama said he will use his influence to create such a system.
"If you've got a bunch of teams who play throughout the season, and many of them have one loss or two losses, there's no clear decisive winner. We should be creating a playoff system," he told reporter Steve Kroft.
According to Obama's proposed system, eight teams would play over three rounds to settle the national champion.
"It would add three extra weeks to the season," he said at the conclusion of a wide-ranging interview. "You could trim back on the regular season. I don't know any serious fan of college football who has disagreed with me on this. So, I'm going to throw my weight around a little bit. I think it's the right thing to do."
Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

| COLLEGE FOOTBALL SEASON Posted: 11/18/2008 5:42:44 PM | | Not even Obama can make the play off happen. Sorry just won't happen. As for Texas Tech and Oklahoma. Bob Stoops will wine and cry once again for if no other reason, his team will get their tails kicked. I will be smiling all the way. | |

| COLLEGE FOOTBALL SEASON Posted: 11/19/2008 3:45:17 PM | I'd like to see UF and Texas Tech in the Championship game.
There should be an 8 team BCS Bowl system. The top 6 Conf. winners; 1.) UF 2.) T.T 3.) USC 4.) Ohio St. 5.) UM 6.) W.Va and the next two top UNDEFEATED mid-majors; 7.) Boise St. 8.) Utah/Ball St.
But,I think Ball St. might lose to C.Michigan tonight. And,BYU has a chance to beat Utah. And,...ANYTHING could happen...Who's the best in the ACC and the Big East? Are they worthy of an 8 team Bowl system.Or,is Texas and Okl. more deservable?
I hope Obama not only has the power to enforce some changes, but that he could find some Ivy league professors to come up with a "fool"-proof system.
Speaking of Ivy League...when was the last time an Ivy league school made a bowl game?

| COLLEGE FOOTBALL SEASON Posted: 11/19/2008 8:18:09 PM | | HUGE Tarheel fan here, and UNC hasnt looked this good since 2001. All 3 losses were very winnable, but Butch Davis has really done well for this team. All we have left is NC State and Puke for the rest of the regular season, 2 winnable games as well. | |
|
| COLLEGE FOOTBALL SEASON Posted: 11/20/2008 11:37:28 AM | Ball St.had a HUGE win in a tough game against C.Mich to stay unbeaten!!! 11-0 Now they have to beat,W.Michigan. Tonight I like UM over Va Tech. UM has won 5 in a row with 75% freshman and sophomores.Their D is SOLID.Their O,is ?... UM~17 Va.Tech~16 That's how they've been winning.With D... | |
|
| COLLEGE FOOTBALL SEASON Posted: 11/20/2008 3:00:33 PM | OOPS!!! They're playing Ga.Tech,not Va.Tech.Different story... ...UM~19 Ga.Tech~14 | |

| COLLEGE FOOTBALL SEASON Posted: 11/21/2008 12:38:25 PM | | OU ill beat Tech and remind them they have no place in any Big 12 or national championship, its for the big boys, not the lucky little brother. They didnt even beat Texas convincingly, and Texas was having a bad game. and no Im not an OU fan | |
|
| COLLEGE FOOTBALL SEASON Posted: 11/22/2008 7:54:52 AM | | Are you for real, No Texas didn't have a bad game against Texas Tech. Texas Tech had a bad second half or they would have crushed Texas lol. | |
|
| COLLEGE FOOTBALL SEASON Posted: 11/22/2008 8:04:04 AM | im rooting for OU to beat Tech just so the BCS can have a major problem...
texas beat ou, ou will have beaten tech, who has beaten texas...THEN....you have florida with a bad loss to ole miss...
usc ranked ahead of penn state even though they drilled oregon state, and usc lost to them...
if ou beats tech, which one loss team is gonna go play alabama?....assuming they beat florida...
if florida beats bama, do they deserve to go over usc and penn state?.....
Im rooting for complete kaos in the bcs....
WE NEED A PLAYOFF!!!! | |
|
| COLLEGE FOOTBALL SEASON Posted: 11/22/2008 11:30:01 PM | i am just tired of seasons being over for very deserving teams because they lost one or two times..and would not be in favor of any system that will include above average performance and not reward all the most deserving teams...thats why , IN MY OPINION, i would would rather see a 16 team playoff.....an eight team playoff this years might exclude ohio state, penn state, utah , boise state, tx tech, oklaoma, acc champ, big east champ..........in college basketball it so big to include all the dominant programs with room for a wild card cinderella team to boot
play it on the field .... one champion....crowned like the rest of the sports universe....by settling it on the field
|
| COLLEGE FOOTBALL SEASON Posted: 11/23/2008 6:18:38 AM | | Wow is the bcs standings going to change today oklahoma crushed texas tech. Penn state won in a dominant fashion. Not to mention all the upsets that were yesterday. Its going to be quite interesting . | |

| COLLEGE FOOTBALL SEASON Posted: 11/23/2008 6:48:37 AM | | I do not follow college football. But I have read that many want a Superbowl like the NFL. I thought there was one. Rose bowl? I could be wrong. Being there are so many teams in college what would be a fair way to end a season and have some sort of football championship games? I am not to sure how college works. Fill me in! | |

There are over 30 college bowl games JAc
They usually start around Dec. 19th or 20th.
You have the Outback, Orange, Gator, Sugar, Cotton, Holiday, Motor City, Music City, Sun Bowl, Fiesta, Hula, GMAC, and the BCS National Championship game just to name a few.
Bowl games and Playoffs around the corner. The most wonderful time of the year.

| COLLEGE FOOTBALL SEASON Posted: 11/23/2008 4:20:31 PM | | Just Alittle Crazy the college system is bad.A few years ago they created Bowl Champion Series (BCS) They take the AP writers poll Coaches poll and some cumputer formula based on record, strength of schedule, point diffreantial and who knows what else to come of with the BCS standings. The purpose of it was to have the top 2 teams play for championship. Rarely there are 2 teams that go undefeated so there are a lot of 1 lose teams and their fans disput the system and the 2 teams in BCS championship game. | |
|
| COLLEGE FOOTBALL SEASON Posted: 11/23/2008 5:57:21 PM | | Wow it sounds like a mess. Guess its good then for the NFL. They should figure something out. Add a few more championship games at the end. Let the winners from Mgmlions list continue to play each other till one man standing. | |
|
| COLLEGE FOOTBALL SEASON Posted: 11/24/2008 1:41:00 AM | The BCS is just the dumbest thing that could have possibly been conceived for picking the college champion. Everyone knows that the only game that matters is the final game. Frequently, good teams which have nothing to play for will get beaten by inferior teams in the meaningless " also ran " bowls. There are lots of perfectly good playoff systems which could be adopted and would satisfy everyone, if only the top teams get to win or lose on the field. The commissioners of the conferences and the school presidents are afraid they'll lose money without the present bowl system. Don't they realize how much more money they could be making with a playoff system ? | |
|
| COLLEGE FOOTBALL SEASON Posted: 11/24/2008 2:15:52 AM | its so important to have a college football playoff system ...it seems to be one of the top agendas of our new president.... and if he can break up that football bureaucratic star chamber he is a change maker
god i hope thats not one of his serious agendas!!!!
|
| COLLEGE FOOTBALL SEASON Posted: 11/24/2008 2:47:49 AM | | Oh please are you for real? The president is a fan, changing how the sports world decides on a national champion is not an agenda for him. Don't you think he has more important things to worry about. I LOVE college football and basketball, its way more entertaining then watching a bunch of money hungry babies in pro sports. But I must say I would be offended and embarrassed if our new president stuck his nose in this mess. Yes we all want a system that works and we all know the BCS does not. | |
