I wouldn't let the fact stop me from dating a female officer, but there would be the worries about the possible dangers of the job.

On the plus side however, she's got hancuffs and can be commanding.....oops the was supposed to be an INTERIOR monologue

Yes I would date a cop. They have odd hours at times, and their job does have a certain amount of danger to it but I would date them for sure. Usually a cop has to go through a lot of psychological testing so at least you know she isn't totally insane!!!

To Gumper1 I say no firemen neither. I know a couple of firemen and the stories I
hear from them lead me to say no. Before anyone gets fired up I know you can't always
group people together however personally I just don't want to sift through and find out which one is a dog.

OK Where to start...lol
Would I date a cop...?Doubtfully...that's all I work with and I know of very few marriages that worked over the past 17 years, that being cop married to cop on same service. That being said I'd like to make a point that it is a job and some leave their job at work however depending on which area you work in that can't always be done...for five years I was on call 24 - 7 not to mention calls from co-workers regarding outstanding cases, informants etc. I would like to offer a word of caution or advice for those looking;
- rookies are just that, under 5 years they are still learning the job and can really be entrenched in the blue line - us against them attitude, ego etc...Not all, remember the power they have been given and what they have to experience on a daily basis. It can be a little overwhelming and they begin to believe that civilians (general population) would not understand
- the cops you meet out at the bar are probably not the ones you should be dating...there is a reason they are out at "the bar", they are more than likely the ones that are always out with the boys or the "players" as someone mentioned... again a general statement but meant more as a guide
- cops are not dirty (there may be a couple of bad apples) , I've been on the job over 17 years and have been fortunate to have worked in many areas...unfortunately out of uniform since 93 - 94...man I feel old
Something allot of people don't realize is that we are also governed by separate rules known as the Police Services Act which governs are actions on and off duty. Drinking and driving, does it happen, yes, is it accepted NO - do we get off when we are caught - NO...maybe 15 years ago it was a different story...now we will get hammered if we get caught, much higher standard...if a member of the public gets caught they will get $500 fine and a license suspension...a cop the same plus will be on desk duty for a minimum of two years, will get a lower class of pay for the same period equaling $30 000 ++ in lost pay and will have to forfeit 20 - 40 hours for Police Act Charges...and as far as future promotion...forget it you are done...I've seen this happen three times in the recent past...not to mention my old partner killing someone while over the limit...sentenced to 5 1/2 in the pen...but that's another story.
Now as far as drug seizures and alcohol...I've heard all the stories and am still amazed...when drugs are seized and charges are not laid you actually believe that cop takes it home and smokes it...come on give your head a shake...I know of a couple of rookies on probation that got caught "smoking" and they were fired the next day...I also know someone that had a problem with coke...he resigned. One last point, over ten years ago a guy I started working with was caught taking beer home which he had seized from a group of kids...guess what...charged with theft...cost him $30 000 in lawyer fees...how many cases of beer would have bought. If you got a break chances are the beer was dumped and the weed is down the sewer...not worth the paper for it's destruction...same as if you were charged...you got a break leave it at that!

Sorry for my ramblings...point is, I do not mention what I do because of the perception and the subsequent labeling I would receive, either positive or negative. People have to get to know you for who you are, not for what you do...I've found my fish...now if I could only find my cuffs

After giving this some more really serious thought...
I still stand behind the fact that i would have no problem dating a cop.
As many of my posts in other threads suggest, I have no problem with a woman who isnt afraid to go after what she wants...strength is a good thing...Most female cops exhibit those kind of strong qualities.
In the end though..its just a job like any other and to stereotype based on a job is to invite stereotyping onto yourself for your way of thinking.....Each person has different qualities within themselves that either attract or dont attract...simple

Besides..being innocent as I am...a cop would definmatly be able to help protect that innocence LOL

I personally wouldn't date a Male cop every again...I once tried to date one and it really freaked me out knowing that they know could possibly know more about me then I possibly do about myself......and that they could cover up anything if things should go wrong......

not for me, I think it would be different if you were to date a female cop.....

oh the whole vision of a man in uniform is definitely hot, but 'mamma jj' could not handle worrying about them throughout every single shift. the poor guy, i'd be calling every five minutes with "are you ok?", "just checking to see if you're alright" crap. i'm far too much of a worrier with those i care about! couldn't do it!

Sure - as long as their occupation hasn't affected their personality to the point where they're constantly on a power trip (and, besides - it's not as if their job is more dangerous than ...)

Yes i would date a man in uniform if he represents his unifprm in the right fashion, and respect, its whats behind the badge and inside that matters,i have always had a respect for our men in uniform, but i also have respect for all men whom value their lives and traditions and love their families,

have and would again in a heartbeat ~ nothing beats a man with 24/7 access to police-issue steel and the ability to carry-through on the strip search

"Interdimensional" - unless you've been personally affected by a drunk driver, you simply wouldn't have stated what you did...Your ignorance is purely that...

Well proud to be Canadian...I would like to invite you to comment on the breaking story last week concerning Peel regional Police at 11 division beating the two men who were filming their after hours drinking parties. Drinking the confiscated booze collected during the week and yes...despite my "ignorance" they all drive home from these parties without a care for being drunk, as their badge affords them protection.

Date a control freak? - They ARE trained to be that
.
You would always be #2 to their job and thier blue buddies

If they are not corrupt themselves, they look the other way if it is one of their own.
Therefore just as bad.

Now the question, would I date one?

Interdimensional ~ You want me to comment on the Peel Coppers?
How about I just give you the same answer I've stated time and time again...
"Some" cops are corrupt ~ yet again - SOME...

Hows that?

Don't generalize the entire police force(s) as "ALL..."
Just because there are a few bad apples out there...
Remember - you shouldn't believe EVERYTHING you hear in the papers :)

Anything else you want me to comment on?
No? Well then you have yourself a wonderful day :)

I never said there were not good cops. But when I pointed out that I had witnessed police drinking and driving and flashing their badges as a free pass...ummmm...gee...that made me ignorant and an idiot. Go figure.
