| The truth about Introverts. Posted: 9/12/2006 3:07:13 PM | ...I have done much reading on psychology/spirituality etc. and introverts would also be empaths-open to feeling the energy of people around them. As well, "energy vampires" feed off of those who have a lot of Internal energy...ie-introverts. An empath is one that feels the moods of those around them, so you can only imagine how it feels for them to be in a crowd. I am just learning how to do some protection techniques that one can do to limit the soaking up of too much of others negative energy. One way to do this is to limit "sympathy". Making sure that the chakras are not left open to invasion is also a good practice. You can do this by meditating and closing the chakras before going into a busy situation, or around those who need energy. Ah, well, just a little more to add to the introvert info. Josefine | |

And WTF is with this "rainbow" chick and her non-stop BS? I do NOT care what subject is posted IF she wades in 90% of the time she's in opposition just to be noticed. I wish this new b/f of her's would put a clamp on her---the tighter the better! Poor guy---he just has to be suicidal by now?
I thought you were an introvert. I guess this is one of those angry extrovert lapse's. LOL Like da hitman said, Public forum. If ya dont like it, perhaps Rainbow's hubby can lend you his clamp for yourself
Again, I agree with some of the OP, but overall it's a big ole pile of generalizations.

Those evil extroverts... wait till I get ahold of my magical pixie dust... that'll teach 'em.

| The truth about Introverts. Posted: 9/12/2006 3:28:30 PM | I am an introvert and proud of it
I dont need masses of people around me to make my life "complete" in some way
Introverts - the ones that toil away slowly on thier own are responsible for many great things we have in modern society --- many scientists are introverts for example
Introverts are more capable of long term thoughts/visions goals they have STAMINA
They can see things as a steady progressive plan where one works to a conclusion in a rational manner-- I get annoyed at "live for today " extroverted types --- somehow i see this attitude as selfish - the whole idea is to satisfy their own immediate wants "me me me me "

Well of course it's a huge generalization. We're not talking about individuals here, where talking about a personality trait. Everyone has the trait within them, but when I say introverts are more intelligent, it's because that is generally how it goes. There are studies and data supporting that generalization.
Now if I was talking about an individual like lets say, oh ... Rainbow Fish. I would use very specific phrases, like she has a dominant extrovert part to her personality. The letters you see people putting up INTJ are the four dominant traits out of 16 possible personality traits. And, they are the four dominant traits at the time the test was taken.
Our personality is made up of all 16 types, usually, but you can get a good indication of what someone is like by finding out what the 4 dominant traits are.
OT: Rainbow Fish is one of the worst for slamming other peoples opinions, and sometimes rudely at that. If she can dish it out, nobody needs to stand up for her when it's coming back at her.

| The truth about Introverts. Posted: 9/12/2006 3:49:37 PM | | So I did that test and am an INTJ but only 1 point on the J. Don't really get that because I am busy judging everyones posts all the time! Wow especially this one! geeze guys, take the red pill! | |

| The truth about Introverts. Posted: 9/12/2006 3:52:34 PM | I am a extrovert...but I love being alone..and need my time alone...and I dont "wilt away"...and Carl jung had alot of influence on psychology for sure..but their has been countless other psychologist that agreed with carl jung.. and also disputed him as well...and this is spoken by someone who has a "honours degree"..in psychology!..its not something I "just read"...and I know alot of introverts and extroverts...and believe me..their alot of people that are a Mingle of both..me included..that are all "intelligent!".I did better in University than alot of my friends(got way better marks)..and they were considered to be introverts!.and last but not least..alot of psychologist had opinions that weren't scientifically proven!..its just their "opinion"....so please take psychology with a "grain of salt"..it isn't "gospel". | |

Yeah... but multiple deflamatory posts in four different threads? I think that's a bit much even if she IS the great rainbow fish.

| The truth about Introverts. Posted: 9/12/2006 4:06:26 PM | | Now I am confused! What am I? I love people and being with people. I am outgoing and friendly and will talk to anybody if given a chance but I am also intelligent, extremely sensitive, romantic, thoughtful and insightful. I love soft music and arts and when alone, I am not bored because I have so many things, hobbies to enjoy. I am polite and don't put anybody down and I am never arrogant or loud. Which category do I beling to? Can you tell me OP? | |

| The truth about Introverts. Posted: 9/12/2006 4:24:49 PM | | Can someone tell me where I can find that test? Is there a link in one of the posts? | |

| The truth about Introverts. Posted: 9/12/2006 4:31:27 PM | Well, that pretty much describes me. I used to be an extrovert, but somehow, one day, I just got more into myself than I did into other people. Maybe it's age, maybe it's just getting worn out from having to be "on" all the time.
I've had people say I'm "snotty" because when I go out, I don't talk much, and when I do, I don't do small talk well. I resent people who walk up to you and ask you for your life story. It's none of their business!
On the other hand, I think introverts have a much easier time online, because we can talk without our thoughts being interrupted. For example, I HATE instant messaging, wouldn't text message if you GAVE me the phone and paid me to do it. I have to talk in complete sentences, or I lose interest.

| The truth about Introverts. Posted: 9/12/2006 4:33:46 PM | | And I'm an INFJ...the rarest personality type. We are the ones people say are "weird". | |

LOL, the studies were written by self-proclaimed introverts. I'd love to hear the explanation behind that comment, maybe because they are not socializing and reading instead, it makes them smarter. Maybe their so wrapped up in thought that they have no time to express themselves outwardly. Generally though, it's just a general generalization about general thoughts in the generalized world, well in general that is.
OT: Rainbow Fish is one of the worst for slamming other peoples opinions, and sometimes rudely at that. If she can dish it out, nobody needs to stand up for her when it's coming back at her.
Translation: Well she started it first,LOL. Perhaps you should school Rainbow on the ettiquette of online posting then all these nasty posts wouldnt happen. Then again she's an extravert and wouldnt get it anyways

| The truth about Introverts. Posted: 9/12/2006 5:04:01 PM | "Extrovert – finds meaning outside themselves." Hmm...well as a complete extrover, I guess if you mean in their relationships, then yeah. I value my relationships highly, all of them. I am also very introspective and self focused. There is no simplistic one sentence definition that can characterize a personality type. | |

<--- uh ohhh... <---Sooooo dislikes 'labels'
Labels are a necessary part of life. They serve a purpose; the important thing is that labels can be redefined. Things can be reorganized as new information is gathered and new theories are tested and made true.
Yes/No ...Depends if said situation requires "seat of the pants flight" skills... Yes/No ...Depends if said situation requires "seat of the pants flight" skills...
Very true, this is why people are usually not completely one or the other. We are people and adaptable. That is why I can go out and be the life of the party sometimes, but it’s when I want to. If friends are asking me out, I’m more likely to be in the background if I didn’t really want to go out.
99.99% horseshit....far from "gospel".
Nah I believe psychology is 99.99% right, this opinion may not be that accurate though. However I will continue to just read and learn more about it. Expanding my mind, is what I believe to be the ultimate goal in life. I believe that both introvert and extroverts do this, they just approach it in different ways. Life is a constant learning process; couldn’t that be the meaning of life?

| The truth about Introverts. Posted: 9/12/2006 8:16:35 PM | *INTPs are pensive, analytical folks. They may venture so deeply into thought as to seem detached, and often actually are oblivious to the world around them.*
Yup, thats true.
*INTPs are relatively easy-going and amenable to most anything until their principles are violated, about which they may become outspoken and inflexible. They prefer to return, however, to a reserved albeit benign ambiance, not wishing to make spectacles of themselves.*
...unlike certain extroverts.
I'm so much an INTP that I don't give a shit what others think of me or how quiet I am. I think before I speak. I don't suffer verbal diarrhea. I prefer logical answers. Emotional outbursts don't normally make sense. Drama has no room in my life. I am comfortable and happy being me.
|
| The truth about Introverts. Posted: 9/12/2006 8:25:04 PM | I found that I was always a little bit of both, extroverted and enjoying being the life of the party, or introverted and enjoying quiet times alone. My mother just said I was moody... | |

| The truth about Introverts. Posted: 9/12/2006 8:39:52 PM | ~OT~ Personally, I believe there is much truth in post #1. As for the critics ~ take from this what you want and discard the rest. Being an extrovert is not a character flaw, nor is being an introvert. No need to get upset because you fit in both categories ~ it's who you perceive yourself to be.
I am a recluse of extreme proportions and have known for years that I am introvert, as well. Many of the things expressed in post #1 are not only accurate, but are dead-on accurate. I have stated for years that I require insane amounts of alone time. I don't like being asked "what's wrong?" I don't speak until I think first. Etc., etc. It's accurate as far as me and my traits. And, he's right again in that I was married to an extrovert and it was like fire/water. Simply did NOT mix. Label or not, introverts are a unique being ~ and I don't believe extroverts (at least most extroverts "get it.") JMO!!
Thanks OP ~ great info!!
