If the Police Department use them for their K9 department then they must be the right dog for your family. The only dog I would have to protect my daughter and family. My dog is a Shepard Mix but has more qualities of the Shepard. Lab/Shepard would be the next best. I've work with both and they both are my favorite.

| Favorite Dog Breed? Posted: 11/27/2006 12:16:57 AM | | I have a wonderful mutt! -- He's a chow-shepard mix, all black. Got him as a puppy from Adopt a Dog at PetsMart....nothing pretentious about him. Just the best dog that ever walked the face of this earth! Loyal. Smart (unbelievably so!). Loves my kids and family. Very very protective; and yet as well, once I tell him that a stranger is ok, he will relax immediately and warm up to that person without hesitation, as well as remember them and still know that they are ok the next time too. And he's brilliant!! If I throw a ball or a stick and ask him to chase it, he'll just look at me and tell me that I've got to be nuts and that he has much better things to do, like come over for to get petted instead. He sheds a little, but has a beautiful coat otherwise. I always tell him that I'm going to have his skin after he's done using it! He doesn't like that much, but he puts up with me..... | |

| Favorite Dog Breed? Posted: 11/27/2006 1:56:10 PM | i had this wonderful childhood literally surrounded by dogs of all breeds. As a kid I had an absolute obssession with Corgis (pembroke). I also adored great danes. We had miniature poodles and I loved them to bits. Now I'm a complete terrier nut and have a westie, can't imagine having any other breed in my life. love their spunkiness and intelligence and they're just so darn cute! But I love all dogs, each one has a special quality.
I also grew up with goats and the next stage of my life will hopefully one day include a small hobby farm so i can have my terriers AND my goats
(yeah, i'm a bit of an animal lover, can't you tell LOL)

| Favorite Dog Breed? Posted: 12/9/2006 11:03:28 PM | I have a pit/lab her name is Nala , never owned a female dog before , she has been with me for 10 years now. she is probably the best friend (dog) a person could have. She sit's, shakes and play's dead and smiles (good training i guess) if your gonna have big dogs you need to train them.and , yes she smiles and can talk , well you would think she is talking. with all the wooowoooo wooo wooo woooo woo she does. very loveable pretty dog and yes she is liquid tounge, she likes to lick, and if you came in my yard she would probably show you were the ladder was to get inside my house and take my things, she is very helpful. LOL. then I have Tazzy, a male Rotwieller. because of her friendliness I got him , and no you may not come in the yard. he will bite you . He is only 2 but very smart , loving and loyal to me and my son. anyone else. I say you just look at him through the fence. Yes I had to get a sign that said (GUARDDOG). AND MOST insurance companies will not insure you with this breed, hmmmmmmmm wonder why? LOL ** i would not trade him for the world, xoxox ciao Nicolette | |

Six Toes - The dog uses these extra toes to gain purchase and haul itself along in positions where only the sides of its legs are touching the rock, a fairly common occurrence while wiggling through tight spots. Very Flexible - The dog's neck and spine are so flexible that it can lay its head back along its own spine, a position most humans couldn't get into under any circumstances short of a broken neck, let alone most dogs.
Perfect for hunting puffins.

| Favorite Dog Breed? Posted: 12/12/2006 11:01:54 AM | Without a doubt .... to me the best two breeds of dogs are the Labrador, and the Golden Retriever. I had had several Lab's in my life, and 2 Gold Ret. They are the most trust-worthy, intelligent animals I have ever known... They are great inside as well as outside dogs. They love small children...even babies. I have never used their talents as bird-hunting dogs, but they are great at that too... And tho' they are not mean they do make good watch dogs, and will protect the family.......
