| Favorite Dog Breed? Posted: 1/13/2007 6:29:16 PM | Maverick I just wanted to say...yeh..Queenslands are great dogs..but ya know what? I lived in Australia for three yrs and they aren't known there. The Cattle Dog is practically the same dog as far as I could tell...and they use the Kelpie alot on their "properties". As for me...I have bred and shown Alaskan Malamutes and they are great! I can't have a big dog where I am now so I have a Schipperke..a belgian breed and the smallest of the lot. She's not a yappy lap dog tho..too independent...hard headed and thinks for herself. Typical Schipperke. | |

| Favorite Dog Breed? Posted: 1/13/2007 7:50:23 PM | Have had many breeds over the years. My shih-tzu was an amazing friend for 14 years. Now I have two white wolf hybrids (father and daughter)....Great animals! Loving, loyal, and absolutely wonderful with my children, especially my four-year-old. And it's pretty cool when they "howl" at the moon. | |

| Favorite Dog Breed? Posted: 1/13/2007 8:52:21 PM | | Well.....I have 4 labs (all males) and my oldest is a mixed breed (she is part Sheltie & Chow). They are all great dogs. My mixed breed definitely rules the roost and lets the boys know when they are doing something they shouldn't. My chocolate lab has a tendency to be high strung (he thinks life is one big party). My black lab is pretty laid back as are the 2 yellows. They could care less what goes on as long as they get fed. | |

| Favorite Dog Breed? Posted: 1/13/2007 9:47:24 PM | | I would have to agree. Goldens are by far the best dogs, they are not destructive, they are born trained, never need any type of discipline, they are just perfect. Unless you had one of thoes puppies/dog, from an unreputable breeder. Some are kinda inbreed unfortunatly "backyard" breeders who sell them for a couple hundred dollars do a diservice to the breed. Watch out for hip problems..... with any breed. My second dog is a dobie she is not nearly as smart as my golden and she is so destructive. | |

| Favorite Dog Breed? Posted: 1/13/2007 10:08:39 PM | | German Shepherds - hands down! I've owned several and think that they're the best combination of intelligence, athleticism, looks and personality that I've come across. Now if I could just teach mine to clean my house..... | |

| Favorite Dog Breed? Posted: 1/13/2007 11:58:15 PM | I can not say i have just one favorite dog breed. I had a dog named muffy that was a shitz tzu, and he was a great family pet,and their was never a dull moment. My son when, he was younger used to put muffy in his backpack and ride up to westwood on his bike.Plus, muffy was great at stealing ice cream cones and at xmas love to throw his cookies into the xmas presents and retrieve them as well as opening all the presents. He has been gone for 5 years. BUT ,i would have to say i like my husky- wolf cross now. I saved her from a abused home 6 yrs ago. Her first year with us she was timid, and we lost muffy that year. He was 14 and she was only 2.She came into her own and has grown to be a loyal friend who lives with 5 cats and a chinchilla.Misty does not do her breed well, as she hates rain and snow, but talks alot when she wants your attention. My grandma used to call her an old bear, especially when Misty reminder her about treats. My grandma had a running joke with me-saying" she owned the front half of Misty and i owned the back half". I am really gratefully about having saved Misty. | |

| Favorite Dog Breed? Posted: 1/14/2007 1:35:53 PM | My beagle, Hunter. He's the second beagle I've had and when he's gone I'll probably get another. Though I've researched harriers, which are in the hound family, sort of like a beagle, but a bit bigger.
Hunter is 12, and he's been a great, loyal, loving dog. He loves to go in the truck. Now, beagles aren't the smartest dogs, nor the easiest to train. But when it comes to being a beagle, a hunting dog, he's a genius!
He's had cancer twice. Mass cell tumors. Thought I was going to lose him both times, but the vets fixed him up. That was about 4 years ago so hopefully we're past that.
Growing up we had a toy poodle - Cuddles. Smart! dog. And she was a very loving dog. But as someone upthread said, they can be high strung. | |

| Favorite Dog Breed? Posted: 3/3/2007 2:13:11 AM | My favorite is the infamous staffordshire pit bull terrier. generally LOYAL, reliably protective and built like a tank. | |

| Favorite Dog Breed? Posted: 3/3/2007 12:54:21 PM | My favorite is chow chow by far! The best dog I've ever had. I loved him like he was my own kid He loved my family and ONLY my family. I could dress him up and do anything and he would just sit there like a sweet little angel....I ended up having to get rid of him because of biting people....and though it broke my heart to pieces, and I still cry about it to this day, it is probably better that it happened now that I have kids. | |

| Favorite Dog Breed? Posted: 3/7/2007 11:55:22 AM | Doberman Pincher No Doubt! #5 from the top spot on the top ten list for the most intelligent breeds (Border Collie is supposedly #1). Dobermans are Tall, Dark, Handsome, Athletic, fast, rarely obese, extremely intelligent, The Bond they establish with their Human masters are very strong. They have looks that could kill, and they have the bite to back up their bark. I noticed ALOT of you put Rotweiler on here and it doesn't surprise me because they are a fatter variation of the Doberman although they are not quite as inteligent as the Doberman. Personally I prefer mutts over pedigrees because I think pedigrees become too inbred and as a result they become kind of dingy. That's why my dog is a Doberman/Pitbull mix. He's the best Dog anyone has ever seen. People tell me ALL the time how amazed they are at how intelligent he is and at how deep his emotions are. He's the only dog that I've ever seen that always looks directly into your eyes as if he's always trying to read what you are thinking. I taught him to always look into my eyes from when he was a young puppy and it paid off. He communicates very well with his eyes and body language. He knows how to beg for cookies too. He snaps his jaws whenever he wants a cookie. He can catch Frisbees. I can leave the gate open all day and he knows not to leave the backyard. He's never bitten anyone, and we have a gardener and a poolman who come once a week. And he never craps on the property unless he's sick. He gets walked twice a day to do his business. Everybody loves my Doberman/pitbull. He knows these commands: Sit, stay, come here, lay down, roll over, go to bed, go eat your food, go drink your water, beg, give me a kiss, go to mommy, go to daddy, catch, go get your bone, go get your ball, and the list goes on and on. I'm telling you, the smartest dog I've ever seen. The only thing I cant get him to do is go into the pool and that's because I traumatized him as a puppy. I used to throw him into the pool when he was young. LOL! And now he's afraid of water. Woops! We cant be perfect parents. ;-) I would like to get him to ride a skateboard one day though. LOL! He's definitely smart enough to learn. He is 6 years old and well mannered and well behaved. Ceasar the dog whisperer would be very proud. And I am very proud of my dog. I hope I do just as well with my own kids when I become a father one day. | |

| Favorite Dog Breed? Posted: 3/9/2007 9:49:13 AM | Without question, my favorite dog breed is the Rottweiler, since my family has raised so many generations of them since I was in middle school. We currently have two Rotts, one was imported from Germany (with a non-docked tail) and the other was born on American soil with the traditional docked tail. But if I were to get another dog, I would probably choose a Pug, they have the most adorable faces haha. | |

| Favorite Dog Breed? Posted: 3/9/2007 10:01:16 AM | | I like Labrador Retrievers too and golden retrievers; but my all time favorite number one are german shepherds, love their donkey ears so cute, second would be chihuahuahs great ears too; its a ear thing for me; but as most of us do, I love all animals, they don't know they are cute, cuddly and adorable, but the One that created them knows they are, and wanted to make us happy..... | |
