Lindros in Dallas, and Eddie in Florida
Hell with Raycroft, Tellqvist and Aubin we actually have 3 good goalies. Then Poggie is around the corner, and ahh that Ford kid.
I was reading how Toronto is like 3rd this year for strength for goalies compared to last year where they were ranked 15th

Oh, I'm all for Tellqvist. He certainly came out of Eddie's shadow last year. It's just really hard to say goodbye to a favourite.

Eddie was a great goalie and I think it's a huge loss for us. But tellqvist is alot faster and did make some really good saves last year. McCabe is still around THANK GOD.... when he leaves (if he does) i'm going to have a pity party. lol.. it's sad enough that Domi is gone...

Paul is very excited about this years line up. He say's they just might do it!!!

Eddie was a great goalie and I think it's a huge loss for us.

The key word in the sentence being WAS. He lost his edge, the game changed, its just not the same Eddie anymore. Eddy lost a few games last year with inconsistent play. Remember, we only needed one win to be in the playoffs.

But tellqvist is alot faster and did make some really good saves last year.

Tellqvist is ok, but in my opinion will never be anything more then an ok backup.
I am looking forward to see what Raycroft can do, and who knows, Pogge?
They are giving a Pogge a shot at the starting job. (I just don't know if he can cut it yet, but we will see)

McCabe is still around THANK GOD

That I do agree with. I like McCabe, even though he can be a defensive liability sometimes.

We have an excellent new coach with some decent editions, should make for a good season. (I hope)

It is good that McCabe is back but the price was ridiculously high in my opinion. He was good offensively at the beginning of the year but dissappeared once they figured out how to stop him. Unless he can evolve this year the price isn't worth it. He lacks defensive skills. Look at the olympics, he was almost non existant, he looked good last year on a team lacking defence but when put with the elite he was more or less average or a notch below.
Raycroft has some proving to do, when he won the Calder before the lockout that was when goalies were bigger, with the shrunken equipment last season he was below Belfour in avg. Telqvist may not even be the back up with the way Aubin closed out the season last year.

Also;

-the Bruins were a mess (Thorton trade, for example)
-all goalies in the new NHL struggled at the start, even Brodeur

The game changed drastically for goalies. They were restricted in their movements, their gear changed, and the game became MUCH faster and offensive oriented.
It was open season on goalies.

I don't think one bad year for Raycroft, considering those factors, is a big deal.
We will see though.

They're gonna SUCK again this year. 40 years and still no Cup. Brutal, pathetic, etc. No bandwagon jumping here....either you support a team through good and bad times, or don't even bother. They are so OVERRATED and not worth the ticket price at all.

THE TORONTO MAKE BELOAFS...LOSERS SINCE 1967!!

^^^^ As you've noticed, just about everyone that's a Leafs fan technically IS going through the "bad times" right now, and hoping for the good. So you can't claim that we're bandwagon jumpers. I can even say that I wasn't even alive when they won the Cup last. But there's also pictures of me when I was 3 sitting infront of the TV watching the Leafs game (impressive especially I'm the only hockey fan in my family).

But think about it....
Wont it be funny when all the closet Leaf fans, and all the bandwagon jumpers, who will show their faces once the Leafs are able to put it all together?

Does this poster have a favourite NHL team? Or does this poster know anything about hockey besides when the last time the Leafs won the Stanley Cup? Probably a Sens or Flyers fan.

This statement makes no sense. I didn't get the perception that there are bandwagoners in this thread.
One of the main reasons why the Leafs sucked during the Ballard years, is because the cheap old man knew he would pack the Gardens regardless of the quality of team he put on the ice.
The Leafs have a following of fans that most NHL teams envy.
Its wierd how some people bash Leafs fans, simply because there are so many of us.
Its wierd, and getting old.

Just to prove that I'm not a closet Leafs fan.... I've been to games where Wendel Clark played his last game as a Leaf (twice) .. once was on a road game IN Montreal.. and the other one was in the playoffs vs the Devils on home ice. (I still have those ticket stubs somewhere).

I attended another road game in Montreal where defenseman Craig Wolanin broke his ankle. It was his final game as a Leaf. I bet many of you don't remember that.

Also, been to Jim Korn's last game as a Leaf vs the Red Wings back in the late 80's. He took 3 penalties in the 1st period for tripping the Red Wing's goalie 3 times !!! That got him benched by Brophy for weeks, and was then traded to NJ.

Attended George Armstrong's first game as head coach when the Leafs played the St Louis Blues (they won that game 4-2).

Been to road games in Hartford, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, St Louis, Chicago, Carolina, Buffalo (twice), Montreal (4 times), Ottawa (twice). My road record is 3 wins-11 losses ! LOL. My next road game is March 2, in NJ. Staying in NYC overnight. Should be fun !

wait and see what you must say and wear if the sens win the season series...is that a bet?

The Sens won the season series last season (twice in shootout mind you). They've been there done that before, which didn't amount to anything (the Leafs always beat Ottawa in the playoffs). The last time the Leafs played the Sens on our home ice, the Leafs spanked them pretty bad (what was the score?? 7-1.. 5-1..). I remember Chris Neil had his head down and Tie Domi just ran him over like a truck. It was priceless. Domi will finish his career having never lost a fight to him.

I'd like to see these forward lines....

Tucker ---- Sundin ---- O'Neill
Stajan ---- Wellwood ---- Steen
Antropov --- Peca ----- Ponikarovsky

I like having a guy like Sundin who can set up.... Tucker who can jam the net, and throw his body around... and a guy like O'Neill who is mainly known for his slapshot. A good mix. I know O'Neill hasn't played well, and has often not seen eye to eye with his former coach in Carolina (Paul Maurice), but I think maybe we'll see some of the Jeff O'Neill of old.

I like having the 3 kids together (Stajan/Wellwood/Steen), who combined have lots of speed.

I like having a defensive center like Peca with a hard worker like Ponikarovsky. Antropov isn't the fastest skater, but Peca can cover for him.

4th liners.... hopefully we'll add a rookie or two to this team. A friend of mine attended a Leafs practise and he tells me that John Pohl (who played a handful of games last year) looks very good, and thinks he'll make the team. Don't forget Ben Ondrus, and Alex Suglobov. Wade Belak can play both forward and "D".

I'm glad hockey is back.

No, I don't have a favourite NHL team. Is there a problem with that? Not everyone is a hockey fan, or a LOAFS fan for that matter. Hockey players are nothing but overpaid, me, me, me type athletes. They are so far detched from the fans, it's a farce. I was hoping the NHL would stay on strike longer, i'm glad they did miss a season. I remember when there was a parade for the team, when they ALMOST made it to the Stanley Cup finals back in the early 90's....WHAT A JOKE!!!

Ya know, I was going to type something up here in response to ^^^...but then thought better of it. No sense in ripping apart what someone says when they're ill-informed and obviously are posting in a forum that has absolutely nothing to do with them....I mean, you DID admit that you don't have a favourite NHL team, and basically admitted to not being a hockey fan in the first place......

So, you pick on the Leafs, but you don't have a favourite NHL team? That makes no sense. It's ok to slam the Leafs, yet YOU don't have a team you like. DUH...

You seem bitter because maybe some fan waved a Leafs flag in your face, or that you lived downtown and hated all the car honking during the Leafs playoffs in the early 90's.

If you are so bitter, why are you on this thread? I think you just like to stir it up. At least watch and know the game of hockey before picking on the sport and its athletes. They earn their money more than athletes in other sports (they aren't getting paid 9 figure salaries like they do in basketball and baseball)

And to prove my point that you don't know hockey that well, there was no strike. It was a lockout.

and on another note.. yeah the Leafs haven't won a championship since 67, but we do have the 2nd most Stanley Cup victories, with 11. I bet you wouldn't have known that if I didn't tell you, among many other things I'm sure.

Well considering I have a bet with my bf, that the leafs are going to beat the sabres in points and games won, I just told him to give me my 40$ now LOL! We will see who wins come April, and all I have to say to that is GO LEAFS GO!!!!!!

Personally tho, I think we do have a good team and a good chance this year. I just really hate Mats, and I think that they should get rid of him, but that now is never going to happen since I seen on the Sun yesterday that Mats is here to stay, which totally suck I think. Whatever, just hope that he actually does some good this year.

GO LEAFS GO!!!!!!!!! GO LEAFS GO!!!!!!!!! GO LEAFS GO!!!!!!!

GO LEAFS GO!!!!!!!!! GO LEAFS GO!!!!!!!!! GO LEAFS GO!!!!!!!

GO LEAFS GO!!!!!!!!! GO LEAFS GO!!!!!!!!! GO LEAFS GO!!!!!!!

GO LEAFS GO!!!!!!!!! GO LEAFS GO!!!!!!!!! GO LEAFS GO!!!!!!!

Can you tell that I am a little bit excited for hockey to start! I also can't wait to see the Sabres play the Penguins @ Copps next Saturday! Get to see Crosby, I'm super psyched!!

The last Stanley Cup that Toronto won was in the old six team league. Hmm . . let's see how that worked - Six teams, of which four made the playoffs. Then semi-finals and finals. The farthest the Leafs have gotten since was the semis, and I believe they did that twice. Not even a finals appearance. You would think that over the last 40 years, a team could could accomplish something.

As I've said many times, even though the game is played on the ice, the team that is out there is put out there by the front office. JFJ is not the guy, and every Leaf fan will see that this year when yet again, the team misses the playoffs. Maybe then, they will do something smart and bring in a real GM, someone who knows hockey. Oh wait, I think they just did. Think that Dougie Gilmour is being groomed as his replacement? Now that would be a step in the right direction!

I love hockey but the Leafs have never been one of my fav teams. I grew up watching the Leafs from the first year Darryl Sittler was the captain. The Leafs although not one of my favorite teams have only missed the playoffs once since '75 so at least you can always be sure they'll make the post season. I believe the Leafs had their best chance to be in the finals against Montreal if Gretzky hadn't poked Gilmour in the eye and got nothing he should have gotten but he scored the goal that eliminated the Leafs. I was pulling for the leafs then and who knows they might surprise everybody by bringing the cup back to Ontario soon. Belfour is an excellent goalie & a former cup champion so anything can happen.
