Icecap you have been converted. Too many of the Blind Faithful think that this team ALWAYS has a chance to win the cup if they can just squeek in. How many teams in the past 20 years have snuck in on the last day of the season and actually won anything?
This team is miles away from being a contender. They are not even in the Pretender status yet. To be a pretender they would have to be in the playoffs and tied for 9th with 32 other teams is like being in 11th. They are only listed in 10th because the Habs have played 1 fewer game. The Habs have the first and second tie breaks vs the Buds (wins and head to head). This team has done nothing to show that they are any more than playoff wannabe's. Every time they have a MUST win game they blow it. 40 years of coulda shoulda woulda doesn't cut it anymore. If more of us felt the same instead of being the Blind Faithful there might be pressure on MLSE do actually do something. Instead they rake in the money for the Teachers and we return to the Ballard years for inept management.

I was checking out the upcoming games for this week as I was doing the hockey pool. Buffalo 2 times this week in a back to back series.
I am really hating this schedule, will what happened with Montreal last season now happen with Buffalo.

Leafs have 10 games left, they need to win at least 6 to get into the play-offs and with Montreal tied with us and stealing that extra point last night was a kick to our groin ( among other parts ).
This is coming to close to the wire, and since we have Wellwood and Kaberle might be back we are missing too many chances without sticking a say Holmstrom type player in front of the net to tip that puck or a Smyth to grab that rebound.

I am dropping to my knees and praying.

Leafs have 78 points right now. If they win 6-out-of-10, that will only give them 90 points. Last year Tampa was 8th and had 93 points. Also... in the 06/07 season, there have been a lot more OT's and shootouts, so 93 points may NOT be enough.

JFJ really screwed the Leafs with his deadline trade with the Coyotes. Not only did he give away a defensive prospect (Brandan Bell), but also a 2nd round pick, for an injured Yannick Perrault, and a 5th-round pick.

Yannick Perrault was available last summer, all JFJ had to do was sign him, and give up NOTHING !!! He could have also waited until THIS summer and signed him, again giving up NOTHING !!! Instead, he gave away Bell (the Leafs have injuries on defense right now and could have used him), and swapped a 2nd-rounder for a 5th rounder.. stupid stupid stupid !! And Perrault is INJURED !!!

Another thing... the Leafs could have traded for Chris Pronger. The Oilers wanted Kaberle and Steen. That is a no-brainer !!! Instead Ferguson went and spent over $9 million on signing both Kaberle and Kubina. What a waste !! Pronger does just about everything that Kaberle can not do, and same goes for Kubina. If you're going to pay a lot of money for defensemen, I'd rather Pronger be one of them, instead of paying both of the above guys for more money than it would have cost Pronger. Again, stupid.

I could go on and on about JFJ, but so there's so much more, it would take me several pages to type it all up.

wow good posts here guys and I am sure it will heat up whether the Leafs make the playoffs this year or not. Leafs are now in a three way tie for 9th with the Islanders and Habs. @ points back of 8th place Carolina! So Leafs are still in this race..with 5 other teams lol.

Anything can happen with teams already in a playoff spot or those looking to make the post season. So it will be an interesting sprint to the finish line and the Leafs could finish as high as 6th as just 4 points seperate them and Tampa Bay now.

JFJ sure has made some mistakes this year by signing Kubina and maybe McCabe is over priced with his performance this year. Gotta give him credit for selecting Maurice as head coach, Raycroft sure has exceeded expectations so far and was a steal to get him. Also I like the Tucker deal as I think if he did sign with the Oilers, Flames or some other team there would be an uproar in Toronto. Hes gotten rid of his Side Show Bob image and is a better player as a result. Kaberle also has learned how to score and hopefully should be back in the line up soon. I do think that JFJ wont be in Toronto that much longer as rumors of Colin Campbell and others to replace him have been talked about.

Tonight the Devils are in town and hope they fans have some coffee ready is they will need it to stay awake for this one! lol. Gonna be a close game for sure and hopefully Brodeur isnt on his game or it may be a frustrating night for Leafs fans.

game is on TSN @ 7:30

OHHHHH MY GODD !!! what a right hand by Belak lol

Well we got 2 pts and it looks like Broduer is human after all ( mind you he will always live in my hockey pool ) .

Awesome game and I can't wait to see the home and home series with Buffalo. I think there is one game before it. But we got the 2 pts the team needed and pulling ahead of other teams without as many games left.

Congrats to Sundin for his 900 assist as a Bud.

GOLF LEAFS GOLF !!!!

Ok, WTF was that ?? can someone explain to me how they give up those goals all in the third.
Jesus, I really wanna freak, and in my mood that isn't a good thing.

9 games remaining, and they will have to go 9-0 for a spot.

Leafs have 8 games left, and they currently have 80 points. Some people would argue that the Leafs are only 3-4 points out. But thanks to the Leafs losing to the Habs last weekend, they allowed them back in the race. If the Leafs beat the Habs, the Habs are done, it's that simple. Teams that win Stanley Cups are the teams that ELIMINATE their opponents. How are you supposed to eliminate your opponent by losing to them???

There are like 5 teams battling for the last 2 spots. It is not mathematically possible for those teams to lose most of their remaining games when those teams play against each other. This is why "92 points" is the target to make the playoffs (if you do the math). In fact, last year Tampa made the playoffs with 93 points. So 92 points would not have done it last year. And this year, there are more OT/shootout games, NO TIES !! So maybe 95 points are needed to make the playoffs. So with 8 games left, with the Leafs at 80 points, they should try to win ALL of them !!

Well just 7 games to go now and it looks like it may be a little harder to get that playoff spot as the Rangers beat the Islanders today in overtime meaning both teams got points Rangers with the extra point.

Fridays game in Buffalo was great until the third where Buffalo came to life and this has been the Leafs problem all season long..not playing the full 60 minutes! For the first 40 they played great so it is frustrating that they couldnt keep it going in the third.

Last night sure made up for the disaster in Buffalo. Raycroft stood on his head and was defintely the top player last night. The Leafs avoided going up the middle as that is what cost them the game on Friday and last night it worked and kept Buffalo at only one goal.

Huge game on Tuesday with Carolina in town as a win against them should be helpful in moving them up in the standings.

They still have a game against the Rangers on April Fools Day, Islanders April 5th and then the Habs on the 7th to finish off the season. Wins there will defintely change the playoff picture but they will have to win just about every game if they want to make the playoffs.

The games against the Atlanta on Thursday and Pittsburgh next Saturday wont be easy either. The game against Philly on the 3rd may not be as easy either as the Flyers could spoil the Leafs chances for a playoff spot. So yeah they will probably have to get 90 points or more to get in the playoffs.

Looking forward to Tuesday against the Canes!

well tonights game could mean do or die for the Leafs as a loss tonight may put an end to the playoff chances. Carolina is looking to defend their Stanley Cup win from last year so I expect they will be playing the Leafs hard as they too need a win badly to stay in the playoff picture.

O'Neil wont be facing his former team tonight and we will see if that move by Maurice to bench him was a good idea or not.

A lot at stake for both teams tonight so I sure hope the Leafs play like they did on Saturday and if they do then we know they are for real and deserve to be in the playoffs.

Game can be seen on TSN @ 7:30

Montreal,Tampa Bay and Carolina still lead Toronto. So they will need to win a few more to guarantee their place in the playoiffs. Unlike Ottawa right Jay

I'll never figure out how people will support a team that hasn't won anything in 40 years. Loafs fans have to be the biggest bandwagon jumpers of any city in North America. Grossly overpaid underachievers who are not worth the ticket price. They'll be on the golf course very soon!!!

The Toronto Rock play in the National Lacrosse League. They moved to MLG in 1999 from Hamilton. The Rock have won five NLL championships in Toronto. They moved to the Air Canada Centre in 2001, and are the 1st professional sports team to win a title in that building. They're an all CANADIAN team, and the guys play for the love of the game. There are no overpaid athletes or egos on the Rock. The average salary in the NLL is $13,000 US a season. The guys are regular working people like most of us here on POF. The Rock average over 16,000/ game attendance wise. The tickets for a game won't break the bank unlike other sports. I have two season tickets (golds) and they cost me under $700 per season. The gane is fan friendly, the players from both teams come over to a designated place after each game to hang out with the fans.

GRG: I love the Rock myself and have always supported them since day 1 especially since my cousin works for them lol. As for the Leafs win or loose I am sticking by my team as i will this season whatever happens

Justme: Well looks like your Sens have to worry about the Pens but dont worry we will be nice and help you out when we play them on Saturday. I sure hope you will be rooting for the leafs then lol i rooted for Ottawa in that one game they helped us out I know your just scared of the Leafs making the playoffs so that we can kick your butt again

Lookin: thats the kinda spirit Id like to see in this thread! Love your profile too very cool! We missed out on the extra point against Atlanta in OT tonight but we played well to get the one point. The penalty to Antropov cost us the game.

Pittsburgh has been a tough opponent for us and hopefully the Leafs will get those 2 points to make up for the one we didnt get tonight.

A real log jam in the standings now and we may not know till the final games of the regular season whos gonna be in the playoffs in the East.

Should be a beauty of a game for HNIC on Saturday!

Heading up to the cottage for the weekend so may not be back till after to talk about Saturdays game.

thanks mod for your post! This is the thread to talk about the Leafs whether your a big fan of the blue and white or a Leaf hater!

The game on Sunday sure did hurt to watch after the OT win against the Pens the night before. The Leafs let Avery get to them and thats what caused thir collapse against the Rangers.

Now it will come down to the last game of the season against the Habs on Saturday and they will probably have to win it in regulation time to get in.

Philly shouldnt be much of a problem tonight and the Leafs should show no mercy by taking the lead and not letting the Flyers get in the game.

Carlo wont be in the line up after going into the boards on Sunday. Its too bad as when hes healthy he plays well.

From what Ive been hearing a Buffalo/Toronto first round matchup may favor the Leafs as they have had the Sabres number this season. They just have to earn their ticket to get there!

Game is on TSN @ 7:30

Jay, these guys wont make life easy for themselves. They can't hold a lead and are life & death for every game. They will be out of gas even if they can hold on and grab the 8th playoff spot. Then the Sabres will have been rested for the last dozen games it will be a tough series for the Buds. I don't see how any match up will favour the Leafs they are so inconsistant and will be tired with their playoffs starting a month ago.
