| Have you ever gotten scammed? Posted: 9/26/2006 6:09:49 AM | No, I went to the police and they referred it to a detective and when I said we lived together for two years, he said he would decline it because the DA wouldnt prosecute, so I talked to the DA and he said it was a civil matter, living together meant it was far stickier than stranger-to-stranger crime. If she stole a loaf of bread from the local grocery, half the department would have been down there to haul her off in shackles. The courts I found, $12,500 and a year later, protect the guilty. I got a $7,000 settlement, $5,500 less than I spent in legal costs, and probably all she had left after she paid off every single debt she had, I'm sure. No, she walked, basically. As I say, marriage and cohabitation are the only legal ways to steal nowadays, except on Wall Street. | |

$20-$50, I can live without..Anything more..I say "No"..
"i think you guys are hilarious ................more entertaining than t elevision.............;)"

| Have you ever gotten scammed? Posted: 9/26/2006 4:11:03 PM | I have never gotten scammed that I remember, but my mind is failing, so I could have
I will lend or give a few bucks when I feel there is a need, to friends or neighbors, and most of the time I never see it again, but that's ok if the need is real!
Now family, that's another story! I have been ripped off by my son and I chalk that up to live and learn

| Have you ever gotten scammed? Posted: 9/26/2006 7:24:52 PM | "men and women who claim to live in the states but are stuck in Africa and need to borrow money"
Yes many or most of the scammers come from Africa and Nigeria although some are also coming from North America. Many times they will offer their email address right away. There are scammer websites with fake names and pictures that they use. Try google Money Scammers or male or female scammers. There are a lot.

| Have you ever gotten scammed? Posted: 9/28/2006 10:14:35 PM | | I watched and taped the Dr. Phil show tonight. It was about the same both types of scams. Two women interviewed with the same pictures of guys taken from the same modeling agency. Same guy my friend was involved with. But she never gave him any money. I had told her to wait till he asked for money and warned her about the scams. He did have the same story and asked for money and she dropped him. I reported him and he was deleted from the site. | |

| Have you ever gotten scammed? Posted: 9/29/2006 11:49:32 PM | I read your post and had to sigh, been there, done that...and once was enough. I met a guy, Ricardo on a sight that supposedly screened the applicants. The first six months things went well enough. Eventually after spending some time together we decided to relocate to another country. Because we were coming from different cities we were going to meet in the middle and fly down from there. Long story short, I'm in a foreign country and he's a no show. Sooooooooo.... I had a hell of a vacation and came back home, having learned a great deal about myself and a lesson about life overall. Sometimes, no matter how astute you are, you get taken. It sucks but life goes on, you take the lesson forward and you move on. I would like to think that I am "sucker-proof" but the reality is if you are dealing with a sociopathic personality, you will never see it coming. Here's to better times! | |

| Have you ever gotten scammed? Posted: 9/30/2006 2:58:59 AM | I think I got the same line from a guy months ago. I remember he came on real strong and did the out of money act on me. I blocked him, but can't remember who it was? I'll bet his face is posted on womansavers.com, its where all the losers mugs are posted.
Beware of anybody who comes on to strong!

| Have you ever gotten scammed? Posted: 9/30/2006 10:02:08 PM | I too have been approached on-line by these scam artists. They are on all the websites...did not send any money...but have to tell you the best part of the story! The 2nd fellow contacted me right after I said "no way" to the first one... I figured they worked out of the same "black hole" and had a bet on to see who could get my money (lol). I decided to play the game and.... When he was just a day short of "flying back to meet me," I told him he better be careful with his cash since it was such a dangerous country...and that if he thought he could get any $$ from me he was SOL. I even told him I had already turned down one scammer. Next day he comes on line to say "you wished me bad luck with your words... I was mugged today and lost everything...beaten very bad.....blah blah blah." I said, gee, too bad, guess I'll cancel our hotel reservations (I never made any) - call me when you get back and you're recuperated. Obviously he still had access to the internet (lol). | |

| Have you ever gotten scammed? Posted: 10/1/2006 7:08:58 AM | I was going to say everytime i go out on an internet date
But this is some serious stuff here ..I call it the African Connection Scam. I have been recieving letters in my e-mail about loaning money and helping . I report each e-mail to my provider and and attempt to block the sender
You should report the scammer to this sites Mods because asking for money on this site is a violation .It 's called Identity Theft
They prey on the elderly because they think we are so kind hearted ......HA !!!
if they only knew
Oh and watch the phone calls you get too. They are only trying to get a connection on your phone so they can make all kinds of Long Distant calls on your bill .Hang up on them as soon as they make the pitch
If your state has a "Do Not Call " petition against tel-e-marketers and junk mail .. sign up for it ..it will cut down on the crap

| Have you ever gotten scammed? Posted: 10/1/2006 10:56:45 AM | | How about that, on the very same site you refer to I was hit up by 3 woman all traveling in Africa and ran out of money wanting me to wire them some. So it's not just men there is a whole ring out there. | |

| Have you ever gotten scammed? Posted: 10/1/2006 11:52:36 AM | There are alot of guys out there that are trying the samething. I mostly find the ones that are from over seas. They will try to sweet talk you, but you know what....don't fall for it. It is a scam that they prey on single women. I got pranced on three times. Of course, it didn't work. They forget that women have a great mind and intelligence.

| Have you ever gotten scammed? Posted: 10/3/2006 5:51:10 PM | | No, I don't intend to and my heart goes out to those of you who have. I haven't even dated off this thing yet. Year's ago I had a boyfriend in hot water with the IRS, the DEA, Justice Dept, you name it. Never again. I take things real slow and check them out. I NEVER allow a stranger into my house and I don't go to theirs. And I mention Pentagon, police and FBI connections in the family -- which is all true. | |

| Have you ever gotten scammed? Posted: 10/3/2006 6:43:39 PM | MsWW - you surely were right to trust your own instincts.
There's a place where you can report this kind of scam - sort of report it.
The email is info@phonebusters.com and they obviously started out investigating phone scams, but now, any email you receive can be forwarded to them.
You get an auto response from them and that's about all, but at least you're making them aware of the latest scams going around.
I think it's worth the small effort to forward an email on. It also might eventually save some other less wise person from being scammed.
Good luck to you MsWW- don't take any wooden nickels!

| Have you ever gotten scammed? Posted: 10/3/2006 7:51:25 PM | Thanks for the advice Marcia re:info@phonebusters.com I've had a few unwanted emails lately........ from people who shouldn't know my personal email address. I know it sounds silly but only my friends and two dating sites have it. I can't figure out why I'm getting unwanted and unsolicited emails, all of a sudden. Of course, POF is one site and I know they are not divulging it....so the other site may be using it for their own gain or to harass me? I wonder if I should have given them my main email address? Should I report them to this site you named? or is there another way? Muskoka | |
