|
| Popped collars Posted: 10/1/2006 12:33:59 PM | what is so sexy about them vs a downturned collar?
what is the appeal of them?
|
| Popped collars Posted: 10/1/2006 12:47:49 PM |
Damn girl! You did NOT just call your bro sexy? Ewe gross.....no. I should have put a bunch of spaces and a NEW PARAGRAPH there! LOL
|
| Popped collars Posted: 10/1/2006 12:50:35 PM | They had no appeal in the 80's either.
Honestly - where's the appeal in any fad? What's appealing about rips in your jeans (I mean the ridiculous ones that were put there by the manufacturer). Where's the appeal in those ridiculous little half-tops over those ridiculously long tight t-shirts that show every ripple of fat in your midsection? Although I must say I prefer those to the too-short, too-tight tops that don't quite come down to the waistband of your jeans and show every ripple of fat in your midsection.
Here's the thing - kids see models wearing something, the model looks great, the kids think they'll look great too. Unfortunately the kids haven't grasped one simple concept: models are models because they're freakishly good-looking. They look great in everything... So now, because the kids are wearing it, the I'm-almost-middle-aged-but-don't-want-to-admit-it-to-myself set starts wearing it... and then the kids say "whoa - my mom's like totally wearing the same top as me!" so they rush out to find the next new thing that all the freakishly good-looking models are wearing.
Fads are not about "looking good". They're about "the latest stupid thing". And like tallgirl said - people have no imagination, so now we have to repeat fads from the 80's.
God. Next thing, leg warmers will be back in style.
Edit: Sorry. Cranky today. Too much driving, too little caffeine. Carry on. And please, guys - pull up your pants.

Hate to be the one to break it to you CC, but they are already on their way back in.
Why? Don't ask me. I just see this stuff and shake my head. Imagine if someone actually tried to pull off legwarmers with crocs!
|
| Popped collars Posted: 10/1/2006 1:42:21 PM | | boys pop ya colla, make the ****es holla. | |
|
| Popped collars Posted: 10/1/2006 1:51:08 PM | Easy CJ. 1CC will defend her Crocs.
Was thinking that 1CC is a little cranky....but good points.
However, at least the somewhat heavier girls wearing those tight shirts don't have any self esteem issues.
|
| Popped collars Posted: 10/1/2006 2:20:10 PM | They may not have self esteem issues, but they obviously have other issues that should be dealt with!
But its just as well to see a fat girl wearing tight clothes as a super skinny girl wearing it. Looks equally as bad as far as I'm concerned.
|
| Popped collars Posted: 10/1/2006 2:24:08 PM | Yes, they do have other issues, but low self esteem is not one of them. Nothing worse than low self esteem.
Ok, there are worse things but just pointing out that the girls nowadays don't have the self esteem issues of the past.

| Popped collars Posted: 10/1/2006 2:34:43 PM | ^^^ Ain't that the truth?
Sorry. I know "ain't" isn't a word. Don't tell Beth I said that.
|
| Popped collars Posted: 10/1/2006 2:38:58 PM | True on the modesty comment.
Crap!! Run 1CC, she's coming.
|
| Popped collars Posted: 10/1/2006 2:52:33 PM | | Had to laugh. Hadn't actually noticed the popped collar trend until I saw it on here. Then last night after the Red Stag we were standing there and someone came up to a guy and popped his collar. I almost went and popped it back down, just to be funny..but didn't know him and he might have been offended. | |
|
| Popped collars Posted: 10/1/2006 2:56:12 PM | | Not to offend anyone, but a lot of the guys I notice who have popped collars also happen to be gay. I noticed one on the bus on Friday. The pink mohawk and swagger was a pretty good indication of which way he swung. | |
|
| Popped collars Posted: 10/1/2006 3:59:52 PM | | Im just gonna go ahead and say the guys who are wearin popped collars are generally more fashion conscious. I work in the beauty industry, which is fashion forward. That makes me more disposed to finding it attractive in a man. Men who use product from salons instead of drugstores also impress me. | |
|
| Popped collars Posted: 10/1/2006 4:02:35 PM | | Popped collar, crooked hat and jeans 'round your knees == fashion disaster IMHO. Sorry, it's lame and looks bad. | |

Reminded me of the teenagers that would sooner by a cd at Sams for 25.99 just to say they did than buying the same cd at walmart for 12.99.
|
| Popped collars Posted: 10/1/2006 5:38:25 PM | | I don't think I'd like a guy who fussed more over his appearance than I do. As long as he's hygenic and not a complete fashion disaster, I'm quite content. | |

You are comparing apples to apples. Im comparing apples to oranges. Drugstore product is full of wax, metallics, and other crap. If you dont believe me, ask your stylist to use her straight razor and run it down the shaft of your hair strand and you will see what Im talking about. I can smell sick Outrageous from 20 feet away. Its gross. People who dont trust that are always blown away when they actually purchase salon products, take the two minutes to listen to the stylist on HOW TO USE IT and then try it themselves. I like quality over savings. Obviously Im passionate about this, so I will stop talking now :)
|
| Popped collars Posted: 10/1/2006 5:50:14 PM | I bounce between the two but have to agree. As someone with really thick hair to begin with, using drugstore type hair products can play a number on me. I tend to go without rather than buy crap most of the time.
I can't say I'd really worry about whether or not a guy I was dating had the same concerns though. I may inform him of the dangers of Pantene and recommend Joico....but its not something that would attract/detract really in anyway.
|
| Popped collars Posted: 10/1/2006 5:56:02 PM | i agree with christ on the hair care treatment products.
i like KMS and good pommade. my hair is very straight and i need something from my stylist to keep it textured and funky.
the collar ting...almost every guy at my school has it (and there are hardly any anyways) but i live near dal/smu and i see it EVERYWHERE.
when i did my undergrad at UCCB it was Gap sweaters.
|
| Popped collars Posted: 10/1/2006 5:58:06 PM | | I certainly wouldnt bypass someone who had lovely qualities and was using salon selectives. I just give them the gift of Redken for Men or American Crew and they catch on :) I can only hope that even when Im long gone, that they still love good product haha! I have a cupboard of product just waiting for the right man hahah | |

i agree with christ
I could get used to being called that!
|
| Popped collars Posted: 10/1/2006 7:16:25 PM | | Haha. Checks the profile and a Salon Manager. Definitely bias. :smile; | |
