Definately agree with Miss Christini regarding the hair products. You might as well use dish detergent rather than some of those 4 dollar a bottle shampoos & conditioners.

1Coolchick, my daughter was telliing me last week she and a friend watched a movie and the girl was wearing leg warmers. They said it would be cool to have a pair. They, then ventured out to the mall and passed Claire's and seen Leg Warmers in there, so THEY ARE BACK. When she told me she wants a pair, I almost died. If I didn't have so many boxes to go through to find them, I am sure I could pull the one pair I had out and give them to her.....LMAO

You are comparing apples to apples. Im comparing apples to oranges. Drugstore product is full of wax, metallics, and other crap.

Nahhhh, I think it is a big money market, as far as the 'salon' products go and the products you find at any drugstore . Try picking up the bottles and reading the ingredients, I am sure you will find they have the exact same ingredients. The same goes for the really expensive moisturizers you buy in the fancy department store. You will find the cheap ones have the exact same chemical makeup ... pun intended.

Actually you will find they dont. I wont get further into the argument. Ive had three years of experience plus continuous education in this field, and I know what Im talking about.

Well I would agree with that for some stuff, and I'm sure for some haircare products too, I do actually notice a big difference though when it comes to things like build up (the whole thick hair thing).

Some things, like canned vegetables is a really good example though. Sometimes 4 plus different brands are purchasing their goods from the same manufacturer but just putting different labels on the product. More fancy the label or the bigger the ad campaign, the more expensive the product is.

Just because you see a label on something, doesn't mean that brand actually manufactured it.

I absolutely agree with Christ(ini) () on the hair products.
It has to be a pretty dire emergency for me to use drug store stuff in my hair.
It's not a matter of having a good brand name - the salon stuff really is better.

And sometimes there are reasons why people don't shop at Walmart:

I won't buy jeans anywhere but AE or Old Navy. Not because I like the tag, but because (and other short legged, short waisted women will agree), certain jeans fit me well, and others don't.

I don't buy lip gloss anywhere but Body Shop, because I like Body Shop's policies on animal testing and the environment.

However, the idea of spending $25 on a cd at Sam's when I can get exactly the same cd at Walmart for half the price?
Well now. That's just plain silly.

I may have wandered off topic here. Sorry. Carry on.

Oh, PS: Oy vey. Legwarmers. A trend uglier than crocs. I feel secure enough in my love of my crocs (both pairs, one pink and one blue) that I can admit that they're not the most asthetically pleasing footwear. But they're freaking comfortable.
But legwarmers? Come on, people. Can't some 80's trends just stay dead and buried?

I saw someone wear legwarmers on Friday too!!!

She did make it work though I must say. She had on those umm humungously wide legged pants which name just escapes me (rust colored). They were short and she had on these funky sandals with black legwarmers. Just the colors and the combo, she somehow made it work into some exotic arabic look almost. Like a gypsy or sometin.

It was a look that took guts but she pulled it off nicely.

Ummm yeah actually you will find they 'do'. I don't randomly post things that aren't true. I don't have any experience as a hairdresser but I can 'read', and I have also listened to hair and makeup experts that have years and years of experience say that they are the same. You are usually paying for the name only. I said usually... as there are some exceptions, like everything else in life~

P.S As far as Redken goes, the shampoo that salons have been using for years, I recently bought a bottle of Redken shampoo at the Grocery store.

I noticed they started selling a similar brand to the Joico I used from the salon too. But alas, not the same type as I use so I'm still screwed. I wonder if they are the same though. I noticed these ones are siginficantly cheaper than the salon ones.

It could always be the sheer bulk they buy them in too. They may be able to get better prices than a salon.

Off Topic

Leafs I wish I would've been there..I miss the parties already...I'll have to try to get up for the next one!!!

On Topic (kinda)

I use walmart, shoppers brand shampoo on my hair, you know fructis, herbal essences, Dove, anything cheap really(although dove isnt really that cheap) ahha...and not to brag but my hair always looks fine, everytime i go to a salon they always compliment me on how nice my hair is. Not to sound trivial, but I've known people who have lots of education and training..my dad's girlfriend has been a salon manager for about 15 years and there are alot of products that do have the same ingrediants, it depends which one you get. Also if you use the brands that I do, just alternate them every couple weeks or when your bottle runs out. Works for me, so I don't know why it would'nt work for anyone else. My friend who works at Life has been cutting my hair for over a year and has always said my hair looked and felt great.

Just to clarify I'm not knocking people who use Salon stuff, obviously you must buy it because it works best on your hair.Which is great and I if i really thought it made MY hair look and feel better I would buy it as well. I'm just writing this coz I know I'm not the only one who uses Generic brands and has nice looking hair.

(If any of this came our snotty or mean you all know i didn't mean it too)

P.S I miss you guys!

^^^ Yes, you can. But don't throw out your leg warmers, and for god's sake, don't use drug store shampoo.

Gotta be a girl thing, or maybe a metrosexual thing for the guys, but this specialty stuff does nothing for me. Salons, much like veterinary clinics, have a higher markup on their products because they are smaller and need a higher gross. No volume aspect like the big stores (paid $20 for cat food I can get in a store for $8)

Myself I use dandruff shampoo, yes, I do, and the generic brand works just fine. I also use soap to cleanse myself. Works just fine. May not smell as pretty, then again, I don't want to smell pretty. Tried the body wash stuff and felt like it left a layer of slime on me.

Good old fashioned stuff works. But todays marketing lets you believe that you must use the new and improved. What the f uck does new and improved mean anyway. The other stuff was crap but yet you bought it?

Oh yeah, I still think the popped up collars look ridiculous.

There's a big difference between the drug store shampoos and more expensive ones that are made that take proper care of your hair. The ingredients are different. I notice the change in my hair right away depending on which I use. Proper protein, minerals and vitamins are added to a good shampoo and conditioner while the cheap ones contain nothing. All you have to do is feel the difference for proof. As a general rule, any shampoo that is a waxy pearl white color is garbage.

Back to popped collars... In the late 50/early 60's the greaser guys wore popped collars on their leather jackets. (b4 my time) Then after Flashdance in '83 it seemed all the gals were into popped collars and the lovely leg warmers too. And now i see my friends 17 yr old, with popped collar, AE clothes and tons of professional grooming products. I think he might drop the collar trend when I show him the pics of his Mom in her '80's popped collar days.

However for young ppl...whatever turns your crank...prep is at least clean
What I find eewww is seeing men 35+ trying to pull it off.

ps.My daughter just wore 25 yr old leg warmers, from my Halloween/costume trunk for fall fest at HS

^^^^^^^^lol that is funny about your daughter wearing your old leg warmers, I guess style trends really do come full circle. I agree that seeing the propped up colars on 35 ish isn't the greatest look. I think teens and early twenties can pull it off....
I have a girl friend which I have been friends with since elementary. She's always dressed as an 80s girl, and Ive always teased her about it. For the past couple of years, she's looked more in style than I have, lol

What difference does it make what age you are if something is in style? If you look good you look good.
