| which is better: toyota or honda? Posted: 10/3/2006 7:39:12 PM | | To Msg 21. The lady asked which was better, Toyota or Honda. You indicated that Toyota was better, as has other people. Now I agree with you 101%, but what in the world is the matter with Honda? I belong to AOPA and they had an article pushing the new Honda Private Passenger jet aircraft. Yet I have owned Honda's and had trouble all the way down the line. Nothing major, jusk aggravating. I happen to know a Honda Service Manager that I chat with from time to time. He tells me that all day long he is replacing transmissions, especially in the Accord. But he wont tell me why. Says it's too technical and I would'nt understand. What in the world are they doing wrong??? | |

| which is better: toyota or honda? Posted: 10/9/2006 12:42:53 AM | Bought a Honda Accord EX V-6 back in 96 and it still runs with no major issues. I get 24mpg mixed city and hwy with the AC blasting all day. I can only imagine what kind of mileage I would get if I didn't use the AC. Currently has 170,000 miles and I expect it to go over 250K easy.
I also have a Toyota Camry that I purchased in 2003 and it gets very good gas mileage however it was an inline 4 and basically enough power to get from one point to another so don't plan on passing too many people.
Now my pride and joy is a 1997 Chevrolet Camaro Z28. With... you guessed it... a fully forged 383 and a blower. I get about 8-9 mpg on a good day. =D
You can't go wrong with either car but I like the styling of Hondas better then the cookie cutter Toyotas.

I've owned 4 hondas and 2 toyotas, one of the hondas my dad still drives and it has over 400K miles. I currently drive an ' 06 Accord upgraded my '03 Accord to a V6 and leather.
Toyotas are good and can take quite a bit of abuse had one even hit 300K miles, they just don't like floods or crashing into roads at a 80 degree angles.

| which is better: toyota or honda? Posted: 10/9/2006 3:37:18 AM | | being a ASE Certified auto mechanic, i would say that either car is just as good as the other, well made, and econmical. parts are available for both vehicles. but to make the choice i would personally go with a honda. i like the styles of honda better than toyota. | |

| which is better: toyota or honda? Posted: 10/11/2006 1:10:03 PM | I've always preferred Toyota. My ex always loved Honda. I had an 88 camry that lasted until 1999. Nothing had been replaced on it. A Chevy Z71 took it out. Both cars are good but I think Toyota cost a little more for basically the same car. Just keep the oil and belts current and you shouldn't have any problem with it. | |

| which is better: toyota or honda? Posted: 10/11/2006 1:29:12 PM | | I know they are both great cars but since I've owned my 96 Honda Civic which now has over 160,000 miles and still runs like a new car, I will have to go with Honda. | |

| which is better: toyota or honda? Posted: 10/23/2006 4:32:55 PM | check out this link and see for yourself which make and model is "better".
http://www.jdpower.com/autos/compare.asp
you can check any model you like and then decide for yourself which is better for you. everyone has a preference but jd power & associates just gives you the facts they obtain from those who purchase these vehicles and have them serviced. i believe you'll find that toyota and hyundai are in the top spots in the important areas right now... yes, i said hyundai. (i just don't know if i spelled it right.) i'm not referring to the luxury models made by these manufacturers.

| which is better: toyota or honda? Posted: 10/23/2006 4:38:32 PM | | Well I would have to say Honda the 2006 Civic Ex is great alot of power good handling and great gas mileage 40 plus miles to the gallon I also know quite a few people that have Honda's with no complains . not impressed with Ford , Dodge or Chevy or Pontiac at this time. | |

| which is better: toyota or honda? Posted: 10/24/2006 3:12:54 AM | | I would have to say that I dont like either, but in the sake of keeping this on topic, I would say take both for a test drive, compare vehicles in the same price/catagory range. If you like one over the other, go for that one. I honestly would rather go with a Chevy or a GMC vehicle, but if i had to, I might drive a Dodge. But then of course, i dont like any imported vehicle (built here or not.) I just dont like the fact that they have no power. Personal preference i suppose. My friends with toyotas gripe less than those with hondas though. | |

| which is better: toyota or honda? Posted: 12/3/2006 9:49:18 PM | | In my humble opinion, I have found that Toyota has a better history over the years than Honda. I can remember way back in 1966 when I was just a girl, my neighbor bought a Toyota when noone was buying them. He had that car for many years and it never gave him problems even back then. He put hundreds of thousands of miles on it. That was the best car I had ever seen at that time. Hondas back then did not even compare to them in quality. I have to say though that for today Toyotas and Hondas are pretty much equal in quality and price. Just my humble opinion. | |

| which is better: toyota or honda? Posted: 12/3/2006 10:02:03 PM | | Frankly, I wouldn't have either of them..I happen to prefer Volvo for daily transport...Ugly as sin but built like a panzer... the mileage I get with my '96 850 is about 27 on the Highway...and it's had nothing go wrong with it for over 175K miles. | |

| which is better: toyota or honda? Posted: 12/3/2006 10:49:50 PM | | While I've not owned a honda I have driven them and have heard of their reliablity. I have owned a couple of toyotas including my 1981 toyota truck which has 300k miles on the original engine. I replaced the head gasket at 100k. The clutch a couple of times. Thats about it for major work. I had a coworker who had a 1984 truck and he drove it to death after only a few years. I've had american cars as well and things start to break or fall off after you get it off the lot. You would have to get a new one every three years to drive american. | |

| which is better: toyota or honda? Posted: 12/4/2006 1:15:42 AM | As someone who makes a living fixing cars (volvo's specifically) and a man who has built many a "pocket rocket" with his own two hands I can give a fairly good opinion.
The toyota lineup generally has more features and more of a luxury feel, plus the Prius is a great little hybrid. TOyota makes better trucks BY FAR.
For a mid size sedan I'd go with a Civic or Accord over a Camry or Corolla based on the fact that I've owned multiple honda's (both models) and had zero problems out of any of them as long as I kept up with scheduled maintanence.
I also prefer the Insight over the Prius as far as hybrids go, but the Insight has been discontinued this year.
To say that one brand is superior to the other as far as quality of the cars isn't really possible. There are a few models in each lineup that have better consumer reports than their competing models in the other brand, but thats not enough to base your purchase on. It really comes down to "which car do you like the look and feel of more" because I'll tell you flat out that both companies deliver a very well designed automobile.

| which is better: toyota or honda? Posted: 12/4/2006 2:39:34 AM | I have read that it is expected that Toyota will surpass GM as #1 in world wide auto sales, sometime in 2007. There has to be a reason that Toyota sells more cars than Honda. I think that every reliability and consumer report that I have ever read, has always rated Toyota above Honda. I like the looks of the Honda Accord more than the Toyota Camry, although the 2007 Camry looks better than the previous models did. The Accord is only slightly more expensive than the Camry. You see many more Camry's in traffic than the Accord's, and there has to be a reason why. Is quality and/or reliability the answer?
Good luck! | |
