I have worn short hair much of my life. When I turn 45 I decided to grow it long hoping it will help me to catch a nice men on here lol. It just doesn't seem to grow fast enough
Oh, and my 15 years old daughter tells me twice a week to cut it short again
Jossi...hang in there your daughter is just reacting to that "inbetween" stage with your hair...I am so glad I held on... I'm lovin the longer look (so are many others!) Aloha~

| Long hair on older women Posted: 4/30/2007 12:55:58 AM | Ladies!!! If you got it, flaunt it. Myself, I will NEVER go for the short, blue hairstyle required of the elderly...no way....even when I'm 90, I'll still have 3 or 4 bottles of Lady Clairol on hand. I figure I'm only wearing it for me and one other person, that special one, as soon as he gets here. I'm sure he'll like it, or he won't show up | |

| Long hair on older women Posted: 5/5/2007 4:54:02 PM | My hair is too thin to wear long anymore. When it gets past my shoulders, it starts looking ratty. I'd love to have it long, but I can't seem to get it past that awkward stage when it looks really bad, so I've decided that shoulder length or a little above is going to be it.
I had long hair all through my teens and 20's, and even into my early 30's, but with two kids, it got to be too much, since I don't have straight hair, and it had to be styled every day.

| Long hair on older women Posted: 5/27/2007 3:32:37 PM | I'm 45 in a weeks time and I have had long hair all my life..I prefer it, and I think its suits me.. I find that with long hair you can do a lot more with it.. the only negative thing about long hair..Is it most be well looked after to look good. | |

| Long hair on older women Posted: 5/28/2007 6:38:26 PM | One man's opinion.
Perception - first impression - is everything when it comes to viewing a new woman.
Very long hair on older women (basically over 50) is not often good. But can work on some women.
Very short hair on women - above the ears - noticable above the ears is YUCK, especially on women over age 50. Younger women can get away with it far more often . An extreme minority of young women look pretty sexy with extreme short hair - but it is a crap shoot.
For most women of any age - extremely short hair 2 inches above the ear, etc. is not attractive (to me - not AT ALL).
Only about 1 out of 10 women over age 50 can look good in extremely short hair or extremely long hair.
Short hair - I don't date men and I do not want to date a woman that looks like a man - it is that simple. The sexual attractiveness disappears - in my perception.
When it come to a choice - if I have to - I'll choose the long hair - even if there is some drawback.
The best hair on a woman over 50 is casually waved below the earlobes and above the shoulders just a bit.
If you don't like my opinion --- well too bad - it is just my opinion - but truthful . . .

| Long hair on older women Posted: 5/28/2007 9:55:04 PM | Just read that last line about very long hair on older women, 50, not looking good. Well guess what, my hair is long and is going to stay long because it looks good, not just in my opinion but in the opinion of others. Including many youngsters under fifty. And hey, 50 old? I'll give you old! Come at me with a scissors and you'll see just how old I am when I'm done kicking your butt. | |

I think on most women over the age of 40 with much longer than shoulder-length hair is just a desperate attempt to hold onto youth. WOW that was a pretty negative bash... glad to know you're a mind reader.
I know, I know ... the guys like it. So what? I prefer my hair long, but also don't think there is anything wrong with doing something to make yourself more appealing to the opposite sex. I greatly appreciate it when a man does something to make himself look more sexy for me. Besides I get stopped out in public quite often by other women that compliment me on my hair.
I've noticed that the older I get, the more scraggly my hair gets when it gets too long. Maybe it just thins out over time. My hair is probably thicker and has more body than it ever did. I use good products, don't over-process it and get it trimmed. Because my hair is curlier when it's shorter, I find it's actually easier to care for when it's long.

| Long hair on older women Posted: 5/29/2007 6:47:30 AM | | I have been short, short and blonde, and got loads of compliments. I have been longer and red, got loads of compliments. I will change my hair as I see fit and when I just need a change (lord knows it's cheaper than plastic surgery). I have admired many older ladies long, long hair (the ones who keep it nice) but at this time it is not for me. Too heavy (brings me down), and way to much time in the bathroom drying it (for those who let it air dry, fine, but then I don't like it tight against my skull, feels too heavy). So for now, it is mid length and red.....who knows what tomorrow holds! | |

| Long hair on older women Posted: 5/29/2007 7:55:20 AM | My hair just is.
S'pose it's quite long....... and I'm quite old....... don't really think about it much.
Actually, I wash it, and then I just kind of live under it.
Each to their own........

| Long hair on older women Posted: 5/29/2007 8:13:46 AM | Just remember gals - the wrong hair style and length for the wrong facial structure, the wrong body / face weight / fat / skinny face, etc. etc. --- is equivalent to the 'Comb Over' for guys going bald on top.
He thinks it looks great - BUT NO ONE ELSE DOES.
Here is my advice to women (and similar advice works pretty well for men - but men often don't seek advice).
Anyway - If you are a single woman - sincerely looking to find a man / mate - especially if you are over age 45 . . . then DO NOT TAKE THE ADVICE OF YOUR GIRLFRIENDS as to how to dress, how to fix your hair, or how to do anything to attract a man.
Because - if your girlfirends are single too and have been for a long time and have no track record of attracting and keeping a good catch of a man --- THEN HOW WOULD THEY KNOW?
My advice for women seeking a man -- Get the honest opinion of a man - what might be called a 'disinteresed third party'. This could be an long time male friend, a cousin, a son, a brother, a married neighbor, etc. - not someone even close to being 'sexually or romantically interested' in you. Ask his opinion as to your hair style / length, your style of applying makeup, your style of dress, etc. Assure them you won't get mad if they are honest.
IT WILL BE A LOT MORE ACCURATE --- If you want to attract a man - dress and style your hair, do you makeup in the mode/style that a man likes -- not what a woman believes looks good.

| Long hair on older women Posted: 5/29/2007 12:59:09 PM | | Well, I'm 51, and everyone likes my long hair, including me. I intend to wear pretty clothes and shoes and be cool until I'm 96. Why is there some age limit in this society when you must necessarily turn into a dowdy, unattractive old creep? I don't ask anyone how I look or anything else. I do precisely as I please. | |

Another one of those sexy Canadian gals again. What's in the water up there anyway?

| Long hair on older women Posted: 5/29/2007 2:27:59 PM | | My hair is long and has ben most of my life.Everyone tels me I look better with long hair verses short.Gets kinda hot in Texas so I wear it in a pony tail. | |

| Long hair on older women Posted: 5/29/2007 7:11:53 PM | | I am an older woman (60) and I don't find it attractive on older women and not always on young women. Just growing hair for the sake of growing it and not doing anything style wise is not attractive in itself. The condition of the hair, overprocessed, damaged, shiny, healthy makes a big difference in any length. I have felt that men wanting long hair on women is a throwback to cavemen who bopped the woman on the head and then dragged her back to his cave by her hair. Please, let's get over that! I don't like long hair on men either, especially unkept, or worse ponytails, grey ponytails are the worst. | |

Msg: 382 -- I think long gray hair ages a person's profile 20 years.
That depends on the woman, I suppose. I have seen women with long gray hair that look gorgeous.

| Long hair on older women Posted: 5/31/2007 6:15:02 AM | | Obviously, mine is long. I wash it, conditioning it, comb it out, twist it and clip it most days. A little eye liner and some lipstick and I'm good to go most days. When I do let my hair down, I get nice compliments. But it's my choice, I like it. I even bought a vibrating hair brush, now that is wonderful. It's how a woman feels about herself that makes her sexy--her choices, her style. And how she feels inside that ages her. I've known some incredibly young 86 year olds and so incredibly old 26 year olds. It's about attitude not age. Personally, when I was I child when we went to see Mama Scott (my grandmother) a couple of times a year. She had hair to her waist that she pinned up every day. I've always liked those memories of my grandmother and at least for now entertain thoughts that mine will be so long and tenderly cared for as hers. | |

| Long hair on older women Posted: 5/31/2007 6:46:18 AM | I went to get my hair trimmed and she cut off way more than I wanted. Now I can't feel it blowing in the wind. It is chin length and very thick. I prefer long hair even though I'm sixty. I do believe it is because we are baby boomers and like to do our own thing and the heck with what anyone thinks. | |
