| Long hair on older women Posted: 5/31/2007 7:04:10 AM | I just took the plunge and had layers cut into my long hair, and I am loving it. Back is still the same long length. I did it over a two month period, and two different haircuts. I wanted to be absolutely certaing that I wanted it cut. First I had long layers put in to the back see how I liked it. Also, I needed to know that I could quickly tie it up when I was working and the layers wouldn't fall out and annoy me. A couple of day ago, I had more layers cut, the top layer being a little over 6 inches. I am enjoying a different look, and I can put it up even more easily.
As far as taking a pole of what men think about my hair length.....? Personal style is all about how we feel with our choices, not what anyone else thinks. No disrespect to men, but I am sure they more interesting things to do with their time. If a man ask me how I thought he should wear his hair, I would be tempted to tell him to make his own decisions.

| Long hair on older women Posted: 6/5/2007 7:51:38 PM | interesting that most women over 40 that i've seen on pof have long or longish hair so a forum on long hair on older women is rather a moot point given that the reality. most of the pof women with short hair styles are 35 and younger - and many of them look sharp!
it seems that older women do wear the hair styles they want - regardless of how they may look to others. "bravo" to those older women for wearing their hair the way they want even if almost every other woman of similar age wears it similarly.

| Long hair on older women Posted: 6/6/2007 3:39:27 PM | Long hair looks great on woman. Come to think of it so does short hair. I don't think it matters long/short hair on women, it matters what suits them the best. Yeah that's my 2 cents worth. | |

| Long hair on older women Posted: 6/6/2007 10:01:59 PM | i think it looks good on you. i'm 49 and i too have long hair and i wear glasses. i don't think it should really matter to anyone else but the person who owns the hair. hey, it's our hair, our head our choice. please tell me what you think. | |

| Long hair on older women Posted: 6/7/2007 12:47:17 AM | | I think it is whatever suits the individual....we get caught up in this age thing so easily....I believe that each is an individual who must make their own decision with respect to their looks... for example...if a person feels the need to go on a diet...it is that person who has to make the conscious decision to diet...no one else...it is their health....and those who do things because of peer pressure...need to get their self confidence and self esteem in order... so I say..if you want to have long hair..go for it...if you like to wear it short ...go for that too....whatever makes you feel comfortable with who you are matters most....and if a guy just happens to like it...so be it...People forget the most important thing...People are like Candy Bars....the wrapper will fade with sun and time....but it is the sweet taste of what is inside that will last an eternity...too bad so many dill pickles get wrapped up...wink....just kidding... | |

| Long hair on older women Posted: 6/8/2007 6:40:19 AM | I have two daughters who have long hair. I know it takes time to get it just the way you want it. So I do commend you ladies taking care of your hair for someone sake even when you feel at times why bother. It is hard work.
Me, its easy. Shower a little gel and pooof its done with a few strokes of the brush. Don't get jealous ladies LOL

Actually the experts on body language would make the case that when a woman "flicks"her hair in the direction of the man she is with, that is a sign that she wants to go do the cha,cha,cha..........do ya think....

| Long hair on older women Posted: 6/11/2007 8:23:17 AM | Men like long hair for one reason ONLY.... they like the feel of it on their inner thighs.
Most (not all) women over 45 are better off wearing their hair medium to shorter lenghts because the rest of us think they look like they're trying to look younger and losing the battle.
|
| Long hair on older women Posted: 6/11/2007 9:02:36 AM | | My Hair is to the middle of my back .. and when it reaches my back pockets I get it cut. To just below my shoulders. I then donate the hair. I dont blow dry it, I dont color it. I just brush it and go. I do it for a little girl I once knew who died of cancer. My hair is strong and healthy and grows fast. I get it trimmed in between the major cuts. Until recently I didnt own a curling iron. I guess I am just a no frills type female. I did date a guy once who told me he could not see me anymore because he did not like long hair on women. I told him I could not see him anymore because I didn't like guys who tried to change me. | |

I see so many beautiful women Over 45 with long locks and think they wear it better than some of the younger ones....
And who's "the rest of us"?!?!?!

| Long hair on older women Posted: 6/11/2007 10:30:04 AM | Well, you all can see mine is short and curly. It's all me, no perms. I wish I could wear long hair. Every so often I let it grow out and people tell me it makes me look older. I get way more compliments with it short than long, not to mention it's so much easier to shower, shampoo, rinse and fluff. I don't waste time with the blow dryer or curling iron.
When I was 20 something I could keep it long and get by with the Janis Joplin look.
And it doesn't bother me one iota if my man has longer hair than me, LOL.
So if a guy just has to have a woman with long hair, well, there's more fishies in the sea. I admire those of you who look good in long hair.

| Long hair on older women Posted: 6/11/2007 11:18:01 AM | | I personally think that long hair on women over 45 tends to age them, especially when they have flowing locks of grey!! I prefer to keep mine short and sassy :) | |
|
| Long hair on older women Posted: 6/11/2007 12:34:04 PM | I agree with the grey... that'll age ANYONE, but my hair looks best on my face long...
I tend to think I look boyish with shorter hair.
That's just ME, though....
Love me, love my hair! lol

| Long hair on older women Posted: 6/11/2007 1:08:35 PM | Yeah, I agree - Emmylou Harris looks like an old crone with her gorgeous silver mane ... NOT! Age is in your mindset. http://www.emmylou.net/mgallery.html | |

| Long hair on older women Posted: 6/11/2007 4:40:53 PM | I've always kept my hair long... it's stick straight and never would take a perm (actually falls out over night) and layers make it look like it has been hacked!! I only get a hair cut once a year to just below my shoulders... it's a 5 minute style for me the rest of the time I cut my own bangs..... and I do put one of those natural rinse out products on it cuz I like the way it brightens up my natural color... Just one of those low maintenance girls... even do my own manicures/pedicures too! Wonder how all those guys would feel if they knew it costs over a hundred dollars for a decent haircut and color these days... bet they'd love long hair then! Not to mention how much the ladies spend on their nails these days.. all in all almost a dinner at Sardi's..lol! I'd rather spend the money on weekend trips around my state!
And finally... give a man a crayon and a piece of paper and ask him to draw a picture of a girl and 99% of the time he'll draw a girl with long hair! ( My father told me that!)
Loving my long hair... flinging to music is a joy!!! and really don't care who likes it or not... it's my hair!

But alas, here in kansas, I'd step out in to the humidity and boing, frizz city! I went thru gallons of curl free relaxer, rolled my hair on orange juice cans, did everything
til i finally quit fighting it and decided the Good Lord wanted me to have curly hair, deal with it, LOL
