| Long hair on older women Posted: 7/25/2007 6:38:56 AM | | As soon as a woman cuts her hair off, up and over the ears with that short short cut, she is annoncing to the world that she is old and had given up trying to look after her hair and beauty. The longer a woman can wear her hair longer, the younger she will probably appear. Find a style that works for you, and keep your hair at least over the ears, and hopefully touching the shoulders. | |

To each their own I say.. Short hair isn't just for the old!! Good grief!!! I guess you haven't watched much TV, there are many actresses who have short hair and they are young
If it is long hair you like on a person, by all means find a fishie with long hair. By the way, short hair takes a lot more grooming to look nice than long. I grew my hair long just one time, and I just look better with it short and groomed

| Long hair on older women Posted: 7/30/2007 10:21:54 AM | | Am I allowed to say, I for one love long hair on an mature women. Short hair just isn't attractive to me. Not to say there are not attractive women with short hair. It's just my personal preference. I am not into all that "shape of the face", “out of style“ or "at a certain age you must do this". There are so few women who love there hair really long so much they will keep it just because they love it. I am behind them 100% I will say though if it is thinning badly, as I will when that happens , I won’t love it long any more. | |

My grandkids would kill me if I cut mine..they love it.
Mine would too, Lol. So just too ask how do Women feel about Men with long hair?

| Long hair on older women Posted: 7/30/2007 11:58:04 AM | | I have no qualms about a man having long hair if it doesn't interfer with his profession. Sometimes is can be dangerous to have long hair for a man.. just like certain professions taking you rings off prevents you from loosing a finger! My old Doctor in Miami had a ponytail to his butt... and some of the local news casters have long hair they pull back and you'd never know on camera they were closet hippy types... Same goes for taking care of it for men as it does for women.. clean, neat and shiny... Living and let live in Florida... Girlflower | |

And we are worried about hair length?? I thought "....we shouldn't care about the length of his hair.." went out in the sixties.

| Long hair on older women Posted: 7/30/2007 2:10:51 PM | | I have turned down truck driving jobs cause they want me to cut my hair. I told them that if they were more interested in my hair length then my 1,000,000+ mile accident and violation free driving record, I don't want to work for them. | |

| Long hair on older women Posted: 7/30/2007 2:36:04 PM | hdgib... shows you how dumb some companies are.. they seem to stereotype people with long hair as irresponsible.. or a druggie... personally I cannot understand this shaved head generation.. at least my generation can brag about how long their hair was in the 60's.. these kids are going to be 60 and saying I wish I had hair when I still had it....lol
I love my long hair.. at the end of the permanent era for women a male friend said to me.. Oh you can't grow your hair long when he saw a picture of me at 17.. your too old now (I was 38) ... well I did ! And have kept it that way every since... 20 years now!

| Long hair on older women Posted: 7/30/2007 7:59:25 PM | I really wondered about this myself...several times I have cut my hair thinking that the 'rule books' say older women (OH MY GOD...DID I JUST CALL MYSELF AN OLDER WOMAN?)...need to look their age.
Anyway, sure enough I just saw it again in another O magazine...advice to women over 40 ... on how to 'change' their look. Like, why does our 'look' have to change? I feel young, I am youthful...I will wear my hair and clothes as I see fit and feel good in!
But, I still had this article about how we must change our ways to look our 'real age' in my mind when I went to a market in Peachland over the weekend. I happened upon a booth with a woman who had designed some spectacular clothes and I expressed my love of her designs to her. The designers outfits came in many shapes and sizes and I immediately went to the 'mini' skirts and halter top styles. But, there was that article to consider...
When I told the designer my fears now of buying youthful looking clothes (okay, a bit off but same thing...hair, clothes...) and she had the best response I could ever come up with. She said, "It is not about age at all. It is about BODY SHAPE (and I'll add face shape). " Sure, if I had fat knees, mini skirts would not look good on me. If I had a long narrow face (at ANY age, long hair would not suit me. If I had a big adodomen, tight clothes wouldn't do. If I had a wrinkled neck...perhaps saggy boobs (any age)...I wouldn't be caught DEAD in a tube top! It isn't about age...it's about shapes and sizes. It becomes more pronouced as we age and it is important to wear hair and clothes that suit our shapes.
Hello! I bought the mini skirt and halter top and swore I'd wear them as long as I am in the shape I am in! If I start getting those fatty flabby knees...then, and only then will I give up my mini's in the summer months!

| Long hair on older women Posted: 7/30/2007 8:10:58 PM | | I used to have hair so long that I could literally sit on it when I was younger!! It got shorter and shorter as the years went by! I now try to keep it at a reasonable length for work and managability, I like short and sassy!!! | |

| Long hair on older women Posted: 7/30/2007 8:59:39 PM | My hairdresser took way too much off last time I went for a trim. I thought I looked terrible with shorter hair. I try to keep mine right past the shoulder. I don't like it any shorter than that. My mother always used to tell me I am too old for long hair. I wish she was still around to tell me that, but I still wouldn't get it cut any shorter | |

| Long hair on older women Posted: 7/31/2007 3:00:20 AM | | Well I use to have very long hair. Until last year.. Really first time I've ever really chop it off. But sometime I regret having short hair. But hair is hair it will grow back.. | |

| Long hair on older women Posted: 7/31/2007 9:46:35 AM | I am 48 years old and have had very long hair almost my whole life ( cut it only 3 or 4 times in my life) I am getting sick of people (usually woman, no offense) telling me I am too old to wear my hair long. Where is it written that at a certain age a woman has to have short hair, and if it is written, who the heck wrote it and why?
I do not ever use blow dryer, curling irons, etc on my hair, just wash, condition when needed, air dry and go. I do wear it up in the summer months, but like other responses I see here, it keeps me warm in the winter and I feel sexy when I feel it on my shoulders or tickling my lower back.
I think if you want long hair, go ahead. If it takes time to care for it because of it's length then that comes with the territory ( although I take no more time that my short haired friends) I do not think age should have anything to do with it, as long as you keep it clean and neat who cares...it is a personal choice. So, as for me, I will have long locks when they lay me to rest!!

| Long hair on older women Posted: 7/31/2007 11:08:48 AM | I am 51 and have long hair that goes past my waist. I don't color it , or blow dry it and it is very smooth and shiny. I have some natural gray in it which I refer to as my highlights. lol, some people pay lots of money for what I have naturally. I love the fact that when I go someplace women and men alike cant keep their hands off of it. I feel unique in a sense, because people in my rural area know me coming and going. | |

| Long hair on older women Posted: 7/31/2007 12:54:55 PM | I keep my long hair for the exact reason u say I should want to lose it. I find it much easier to care for than any short doo I've tried. That having been said I don't color, blow-dry or curl... well blow-dry occasionally in winter if I must go out in the cold before it dries naturally. When I need a trim, I can trim it myself. In the winter it keeps my ears warm. In summer heat a high ponytail gets it completely off my neck. As for pleasing the men -- if they like it... bonus! :) if they don't... too bad. | |

| Long hair on older women Posted: 8/5/2007 3:31:20 PM | Texan: my hair is long because I want it to be..........and the length of a woman's hair at any age...............what does that have to do with being attractive?????? never mind the in style..........at this age.........style is what you make it.......

| Long hair on older women Posted: 8/5/2007 11:49:26 PM | I have worn my hair long for about 15 years now. There were times in my life when I wore my hair short. To say that long hair is harder to take care of is misleading. Most mornings all I need do is run a hair brush through my hair. Truthfully it does take longer to shampoo it, and also to blow dry it. But all in all, on a daily basis I find I spend less time on my hair than I did when I wore it shorter.
There are some men who prefer short hair, but those who are attracted to long hair tend to seek women out who do have long hair or try to talk their wives or girlfriends into letting it grow out. Personally I am content with wearing my hair long and when I need it up and out of the way a pony tail, braid or bun are just of the few options I have. My personal experience is that men still seem to like long hair, even now that I am over 45.
