Long hair on older women

I turned 40 in May. I hate myself with short hair. I've cut it off a few times over the last couple of decades, when I'd get antsy and want a change. Sometimes after one of my kids was born, so it would be easier to deal with.

But I think short hair makes me look older and I just don't like my hair short anyway. It's very curly and the longer it is, the easier it is to straighten, because it weighs more and gravity helps. My hair is the ONLY place I want gravity to kick in. LOL!

I don't think anyone looks bad with long hair, as long as their hair is healthy and in good condition. Long hair that's all split and frizzy and in bad need of a trim is not attractive no matter how old you are.

I TELL ALL MY FRIENDS IF THERE EVER COMES A DAY WHEN I START GOING TO THE SALON FOR A WASH AND SET-SOMETHING THAT IS TEASED AND/OR SPRAYED WITHIN AN INCH OF THE NEXT OZONE LAYER----BY ALL MEANS SHOOOOOOOOOT MEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!

I'M ALMOST 43 AND I HAVE NO INTENTION OF CUTTING MY HAIR ANYTIME SOON, NOR DO I DO ANYTHING OTHER THAN GEL TO RELIEVE FRIZZ. I WANT SOMEONE TO BE ABLE TO RUN HIS FINGERS THRU MY HAIR WITHOUT GETTING SNAGGED UP IN SPRAY AND JUNK

PS-MY HAIR IS UP IN A CLIP IN THIS PICTURE

I will never have short hair again. I love it long and find it easy to care for and almost always clip it up off my neck and twist it or have a fancy up-do for special occasions.

HOWEVER, I do let it down when I am in bed and find men love long hair flowing over a pillow.

The best of both worlds, as far as I am concerned.

I gave in to the pressure a few months ago and cut my hair. I hate it. The pictures of me with long hair make me look much younger. Short hair looks good if you like a boyish look. Short hair is just not sexy.
My X boyfriend said that he wants his old wife to have long hair like the lady in the movie Titanic.

Most of the men who have contacted me here on POF have commented that they like my hair. So that just reaffirms my decision not to cut it anytime soon.

Nat, I had hair so long when I was a kid, I could sit on it! It was such a chore to take care of it, hair washing became a nightmare. My hair has gotten shorter over the years, more so for managability. I live in Florida, the humidity kills my hair and makes it frizz. I don't have short hair, but it is at a length that is easiest for me. I work as a nurse, so time is of an essence.....

Why thank you nat for the compliments, they are very much appreciated . This length works well for me. I guess I will keep it this way just for you!!

My hair may be shorter than some men like, but there is still plenty of it to run your fingers through......

I for one find I'm needing to grow my hair back as well. I got a little crazy a couple of years but and started cutting my long hair shorter and shorter. I was looking for a cut that would be more wash and wear for my natural curls. I had forgotten all those "poodle cuts' I ended up with as a child. I wanted change so much after my last relationship ended , I cut it down to a few inches and Wham, there was poodle girl again. Talk about a nightmare. Well its back to being much longer and the curls are free. Even my ex younger boyfrind is enjoying looking at them again lol and will stop by for visit , just visit , as old friends again. Nice. Friends in my poker circle say I h00ave the "sexest hair in my little city" . I guess I'll be keeping it long for the rest of my life.

I love to see long hair on "the older woman". I'm not opposed to short hair on women, but I believe long hair is extremely feminine and makes women look younger and more vibrant. Keep it growing!

Your hair looks great. Keep it! I'm the same age as you and I will NEVER have short, "old lady" hair! My opinion is that if it's WAY long, and has no syle, that's just not a good look, but... Yours and Mine, it's fine!

I've never been with a man that wanted me to have short hair either!

I had short hair for quite some time. Was told it would be more professional! It was a lot of work. Lot of upkeep at the salon, time, and money. Went through the awkward stage of growing it back in and am almost there! lol
I have never gotten more compliments! My hair is naturally curly so I can just wash and go! Works for me..cept for those damned gray hairs! lol...I take care of them though...And I do think I look younger and I definately feel sexier with it longer. As far as others telling me to cut it short? Ack, I am gonna do my own thing tyvm!

I definitely like my hair long and I'm 52. My hair is naturally curly, and I don't care for it short. Hair is very personal, and I believe in "to each his own". To be so small minded and say that all older women should have short hair is ridiculous, it's whatever YOU are comfortable with. As far as any gray hairs, I've only seen a couple and feel that at this point I've earned them!!!

I'm 53 and will turn 54 in October. Just about a year ago, got the long hair "chopped" very stylish do but no variety to it. Wore it the same way day in, day out. I got tons of compliments on the new cut but I was bored with it. Have not cut my hair (except for the occasional trim) since way back then and happy to say that it's laying on my shoulders, just the way I like it! My current man loves my longer hair and thinks its very feminine and sexy......and even if he didn't like it, don't think I would cut my hair. After all, it's on my head.

I was told recently that men like long hair, u will find that men find that attractive.
Well I have shorter hair, and I like it.
I have a hair piece to put on if it want it long
not all men like, long hair, some like short, red, black, blonde, strawberry,
brown, etc.
or mixed.
It is like saying all women like short hair on a man that is not true.

I had long hair most of my life and I like a change.

I haven't had short hair for over 25 years, although I have had a few "trims" that really went too far. Even though I swim year-round and sometimes think it's hard in the winter to leave the pool with a damp head, I am keeping my long locks because long hair looks better on me. I am in need of a trim right now, but luckily I found a stylist a few years ago who understands that concept.

I think long hair or short hair depends on the woman. I have seen older and younger women that I love the short look they have and wish I would look like that with short hair but my hair is long, easier than short hair to deal with due to natural curl. I have had short hair before and to me was much harder to take care of. Some people, mostly women like me with short hair but most men like me with long hair. I have even had both sex to tell me not to cut my hair that they love it. I often wonder though if I am too old for long hair but I guess as long as people think it looks good on me then I will keep it for now.

I know some women in their 40s who were okay looking when they had short hair, but became more attractive with a longer hairstyle. Personally I usually prefer women with longer hair regardless of age. However I have seen some attractive women with short hair.

I have short hair at the moment, I have long when I feel like it. Sometimes longer sometimes shorter. I have extremely thick hair, so I only deal with it to a point then go off with it.. The last bf liked long hair and at that time it was down to just below my butt. I was going to wack it he wanted it long, told him YOU comb it out every day and it stays. So he did and it did. Now it's just a matter of I grow it out then wack it off when I get tired of it.

I don't colour cept for occasionally putting a temp colour in, I don't blow dry or usually use the hair gels and stuff. So there isn't that much upkeep other than getting the snarls out when it's long.

I wear my hair though for myself. Unless as in the above..

I have worn my hair long for quite a while now. I do it for me and my preference but find that I get more compliments on my hair (men and women) than any other feature. The only time I find it a problem is having to move it before sitting down to avoid sitting on it.

age i feel plays no part in this, i think it depends on a few thing, one, it should fit your face, and two, it depends on a woman's schedule and the time she has to maintain it if long.... i think that many times a woman getting up in years looks nicer with a shorter style, especially if she has coarse hair, if it's healthy and shinny by all means keep it long then, but to me it's like this: do men like brown eyes or blue eyes? my answer: either, as long as they use them to look at me... as for hair, both are just fine.. either/or
