I love long hair on women of any age. It is beautiful and sexy, and I love how it moves and feels. Now that I have past 50 I am sad as the more and more of the women I know have shorter hair styles.

You look great, by the way, Ms. Tulsa!

yes, i think older women look great with long hair, depends on the individual. i would never expect someone to wear their hair the way i like it, better if they do what they prefer....at what age to give it up?,,hard for me to say, i've seen women in their 60s with long white/gray hair who looked fantastic.

Well take a look at my photos and you will see I have very long hair. It is naturally white blonde, and has been since the age of 18. I have had hair like this since the 60's and it is a part of my personality. Only once did I cut it, for a short time in the 70's to have a then fashionable afro, I also dyed it red. A photo of that is on my profile too. As you will see even at that age it did not suit me. Yes I keep my hair long for ME. It suits me despite my age, and I am sure people who know me would be shocked if I cut it off, something that will never happen. I don't feel wrong with long hair, and if other people don't like it, TOUGH.
It is also easier to maintain, requiring one good wash and condition a week.
I am 60, even though I don't feel that age.

I've always had long hair -- not going to change it at my age because of someone else's opinions. To me, this is an individual-preference thing. Most people's views on such things are media-driven. Be an in-duh-vidual! Think for yourself and look the way you want. Life is too short to look/dress to please others. We old now -- we can do what we want! LOL

People love this thread. Everyone has an opinion. I think these days people can choose to wear their hair long or short. Some "trendy" clothing styles also look good on older women and then there are some that dont. A lot depends on one's body type.

Hey 57

I thought your ex was in her 70's? The one you picked up at the Red Hat tea party . Or are you talking about the one from last year at the Kiwanis potluck singles dance?

My hair is very long. It's healthy and thick. I love it. It's so easy to look after. All I do is wash it and go. I've had longish hair all my life, so anything else would just not be me.

If someone doesn't like long hair on women over 50... that's ok. There's plenty of folks who do like it.

I like my hair long.

It's my trademark it seems.

Just look for the 45 year old women in the room with hair down to her behind... I'm easy to spot.

I like to wear in a style that's complimentary to my desire to dress in trendy fashion.

Yeah, men love my hair. I actually like it when they want to touch it.

It doesn't take me any longer to maintain it, than when I used to when it was cut in a particular style. I just wash it at night and let it air dry, and curl it a bit with a curling iron the next morning... piece of cake!

I say wear your hair the way that makes you feel your best! It's all in the attitude anyway!

I wear my hair any length I choose to. Right now it's blonde and down to my waist.

My 4 cat's grew tired of the "common catnip rats" and balls that go "bing" in the night. My cat's now go for my "hair" when wanting to play as it is so long, now.

Thank god I don't have to pay $200.00 bucks a pop again to "get my hair trimmed" as my cat's do it for me.

So Jenna...

Tell me how you really feel....

Gawd..if I worried about every smarty mouth kid in the world.....I think that alone would be my aging factor not the length of my hair....

What interests me is the strength of feeling behind many of the posts on both sides. I am very much on the side of appreciating long hair in older women, but I wonder where the depth of feeling comes from on both sides.

I work in an office dominated by women and men over 45, and there was a vigorous discussion after I brought up the subject over lunch yesterday. Almost everyone was strongly on one came or the other. It is a generally respectful and supportive environment, and people were careful not to hurt each other's feelings. Yet I think that we were all uncomfortable with a certain asymmetry in attitude: It was pretty clear that those against long hair in older women not only disliked it, but felt some real anger about older women in out office who had kept their hair long. The longer-haired women seemed to have no such feelings about the women who kept their hair cut quite short. Why would they be angry?

Personally, I wear my hair shoulder to a few inches below in length and don't care for long hair on myself or other older women due in my opinion it appears unprofessional and ages a woman, unless of course, the hair is worn up. It would take a very special older woman to be able to pull off long hair without the additional aging factor, even Demi Moore, who is one of my favorite actresses, in her recent movie appeared somewhat older due her long hair dispite the multiple plastic surgeries.

Demi Moore had plastic surgery??
Well, I cut my hair ONCE back in the 80's and you'd have thought I'd had a sex change operation or something! But I keep my hair long because I think I look best that way. I think guys definately like longer hair, they like playing with it. Every boyfriend I've ever had became paranoid when I mentioned I was getting my hair cut. Relax, it's just a trim. I know I look younger then my age, but I don't think age should have anything to do with it. I've been told it's my best asset. So I'm not messing with it. It's like not wearing white shoes past Easter. Who follows that? Oh yeah......I forgot, I do.

It's like most other things; some women look better with long hair, some look better with short hair and I don't think age has anything to do with it but rather what works best for them.

People really need to stop thinking that you "cannot" do certain things in your life because you are a "certain" age.

"a "certain" age. "

Unfortunately for them, there will always be what I call drones (and I don't mean older women but people who are like worker bees following a pattern they don't question in life) who follow the unwritten "rules" that keep people as compliant as possible. The long hair on older women used to be the social norm for women over 30, when women weren't permitted to make choices for themselves.

Personally I love long hair on woman regardless of age, they can always tie it back or or pin it up, to suit the occasion, you can always make long hair appear short but never truly the reverse.
Mind you it's all about freedom of choice.
Oh and Waterlilly you look delightful,... Don't touch that hair!!!

I guess since you are only 31, I'll forgive you for your naive statements (in time you will come to realize this as you mature & likely come to regret saying such things - there are only two options for you in life - grow older or die.... growing older gracefully is the trick - at 31, you should have figured this out by now.)

Long hair or not? Its not about age but being comfortable in your own skin, how you carry yourself & self-perception as to whether you are attractive or not - I not only wear my hair more than shoulder length but also enjoy wearing mini skirts (see picture to the left) & never, never, never have I been called stupid looking or unattractive... BTW, I'm 51...

At 52, I'm a man who welcomes running his hands through a woman's long hair ...as long as it's well cared for before I do. As for mini-skirts, if the lady still has the legs to show off below these, why the hell not ...as well? To each their own, and if she happens to look so good sporting both at age 61 or beyond, I'm still there.

Long hair, short hair, what's the big deal? Whatever suits you and your lifestyle is what it should be. I personally don't like really long hair on men but that's just me, it's not wrong or right.
