no kidding!!!
just do what's good for YOU!
and what makes you look good (to YOU)
age should not be the reason you are cutting it!
be grateful it still grows!!!

Hello people,
I just stumbled onto the 'debate' & would like to throw my 2 cents worth in.I love long hair on all women,it rears a certain feminine quality in women of all ages.To me it shows a certain self discipline, but what do I know,I say throw out the hair color, white, grey,or salt & pepper, there's a distinction that's involved.
Since I'm here,an older man with long hair is probably searching for his youth (just an opinion) they remind me of ignorant professors.
Thanks

Thank you Gray..that was very sweet of you!

I know how some men like long hair and how some others like shorter. Alot of men it seems..don't care..either way is fine with them. Still..a few don't seem to care if you even have any hair.. !

I like my long hair..for me..it's easy to care for and is naturally colored. I know eventually this may change..well the color definitely will.. ..but the length and style may very well be something..I out-grow (pardon the pun)!

Friendlyldy...

I know exactly what you mean. I tend to look at the situation like this though..turning your "power" over to a controlling little troll only leaves you powerless. I choose not to empower this one. He can stroke his ego or whatever else he wishes..just not MY hair! Their will always be those who want to just for the sake of the !

I think most of the pics I've come across are beautiful and of beautiful people..and I am not afraid..but..proud to put my FACE..not my naked body..and information that may lead to a REAL and lasting relationship..NOT information that could be used in identity theft out there..I think it makes me a trusting and HONEST person. NOT STUPID! BIG DIFFERENCE!
My purpose and intent for being on this site is also an HONEST and SINCERE one. I don't feel the need to deceive anyone at any time. To those who do..you can only get back what you are willing to give out! Ever hear of Karma?

Now with that said.........

My hair is a large part of my identity. I had a friend of mine come to where I live..but wasn't familiar with the area..and forgot the paper he had written my address on..and couldn't remember my house number off the top of his head. He saw one of my neighbors outside..and asked him.."Do you know where the little blonde woman lives (the man just looked at him..like..which one?) she has the reeeeeeeeeeal long hair!" To that my neighbor..and a friend as well..pointed to my house and said.."Oh..her!" I was standing on my porch and heard it all..it was soooooooo funny..and true!

I can say that my hair has nothing to do with anyone except myself. I would be horrified if I didn't have my long hair for some reason. I can't emphasis enough how much I love my hair. I care what I see in the mirror. I don't care what others see. I can't for a moment think why they would care what other peoples hair is like all that much.

Dont like women to look like men...short hair does not make a woman look younger, just more masculine....and I dont like a lady to use roids and grow a mustache either! lol

I like my hair long, I think it looks sexy. Guess it depends on the woman, whatever she looks best in and is happiest with. I would only cut my hair if I didn't look good, not because others think I am too old. Shit I would always defy that!

Until about six month ago my hair reached way over my rear end...very waivy....red.... and men just loved it. Some described it as a fire burning raging wild river (wow). My teenage daughter then once said that I look like the flower power girls she saw in a 70's movie. Hey.......yes...that's exactly what I looked like then and it was prettier then pretty................however, she was right. Then I knew why I just did not feel very comfortable when I looked in the mirrow every morning. In order to go to work I always had to up-do my hair...I had to get into a ponytail for most of my activities and specifically when I was cooking and baking I had to get it out of my way. Washing and drying my hair took way too long to be on time where I had to be on time. However, I decided to cut it into one of the newest wild razored bob styles...still red...and the response was amazing. Even the men who loved my "fire burning raging wild river " now are amazed by the way I look......more radiant, much younger and much more matching my personality and my age. I am glad I did it.

I have long hair, because I always had short hair all my life, until I got older. I love it and I love fixing it. It doesn't take long at all to do it. It was down to my waist and I had it cut to my shoulders I regretted that. Now I 'm letting it grow longer again.

You are very welcome Gray...

Here's just another hair story..

Oh..I've had my hair short. Once when my sister was in beauty school..she needed someone to "practice" on for her exam to get her license. Being young and "foolish" (a d*mn fool) I volunteered. When I got their at 7 pm..one of her friends was waiting to take her test..but the woman she had practiced on didn't show (hmmmm? red flag?) I got volunteered..thrust into the chair by my sister. Mind you..my hair was allllll the way down past my butt. I went to get back out of the chair..but the girl rushed to get the little plastic apron around my neck. Needless to say..I got slammed back down in the chair..and that's where I decided to stay. Caught! She was supposed to give me a trim..then a set (put rollers in to curl my hair)..she finally finished CUTTING my hair at 11pm! If you could say I had ANY hair..it was shaved up the back and was less than an inch long on top!! I refused to leave without a scarf on my head!
When I went to school the next day..yes..high school..I wondered why everyone was soooo nice to me. I mean everybody..people I never really knew that well were opening doors for me..asking to carry my books..shuffling around in the cafeteria so I could have a seat as soon as I went through the line..even offering to carry my tray. I thought they all went nuts or something.
I went home..told my mother what happened..and she told me maybe I was making a big deal out of nothing. She thought of it as being well mannered kids.
The next day..I went back to school..and a teacher leaned over and asked me if I would mind at all informing the class of the cancer treatments I was receiving. SHOCK????
I tried telling her..but..I don't have cancer. She insisted it was better if I talked about it rather than keeping it in. It took me 2 weeks to finally convince everyone..I didn't have cancer. Thankfully..when they heard what really happened..knowing my sister as she had gone to this same school just 2 years before..they laughed in hysterics.

I like my long hair just the way it is!

I feel that older women should do their hair the way they feel like doing it. It's a free world when it comes to beauty and the hairdressers

People should do what they want to do, say what they feel like saying because those that mind don't matter and those that matter don't mind Keep your long hair if that is what you want to do

Do the majority of women over 40 still look good with long(er) hair? How long or how short?

At what age should/would women "give up the locks" to remain attractive and "in style"?

Ladies, if you keep your hair long, is it because YOU want to or because the guys all fantasize about the long locks?

I think that women over 40 look good with any length or without hair. I think each person should decide what they think looks good on them. I don't think you can say that each person looks good with any particular length or style. I have long hair and because of reading this thread have added some pinky purple hair. I am unable to color or bleach my hair, but am able to add hair. I have been complimented on my additional color and length.

Previously I gave my hair to locks of love. I don't think that cutting it had anything to do with staying in style. I think women now days can look in style with any length. Ponytails, braids, buns, and all can look in style and fabulous on any age woman. I think that women that have had their hair buzzed off can even be attractive.

I don't think my hair length has caused any problems getting or not getting dates and I know I am definately over 40.

I will soon be 49 and have worn my hair long almost all my life. Now it is down past my bra strap. My sister and I are mistaken for twins. She has her hair cut really short. The stylist Really messed it up. That has happened to her more than once. She spends more time on messing with her hair than I do. Once when I was very young my mother insisted my hair be cut short for summer camp. I got a bad cut and ended up with a pixie cut. I cried for weeks. I have worn it at least shoulder length ever since. I use to curl it and mess with it but I don't any more. I wear it down to go out but up when I am working to keep it out of the way. I think it is a personal decision. I have the same hair dryer that I got for my 16th birthday because I never use it. It is a lot easier to deal with long since it is straight and doesn't cooperate even when I try to have bangs. I think how you wear your hair is a personal decision. Some people look better with short hair, especially if it is thin. I have enough hair for 3 people so it doesn't look scraggly long. I really don't understand why there is so much discussion over something that should be entirely up to the person who's head it is on.

"I can't believe the number of people are so focused on the length of the hair. "

I sure have to agree.

I received a couple of message from a man, and told me a polite no thanks. His response was "I will think of your hair often"................ew.

moraima is lucky not to have any grey hair. i have short hair which is high maintanance as it has to be chopped regularly i used to have long hair as a youngster but my hair grows so thick so prefer i t short. my friend whos 52 had short hair and grew it long and she looks much better with long hair, i dont care how old the person is its up to them how they wear there hair. but saying that have you ever noticed a young lady with flowing locks and when she turns round its an old lady its like shock horror, i think we just presume younger people have long hair and older people have short hair and i def think men prefer longer hair on woman.

I'm over 45 and have long hair. I don't think anythings wrong with an older woman having long hair. As far as the upkeep, I visit my beautician religiously. I work hard and that's the one thing I will do for myself, have someone else do my hair

As soon as I hit forty..my grandmother in particular kept nagging me to cut my hair. I was like...what does age have to do with it? I like my hair long. And many men like long hair on women too.

I compromised a little, not because of societal reasons, but because it was getting harder to take care of ( it was to my waist), now, it hangs roughly just below my shoulders. My hairdresser still tries to get me to cut it shorter..and grandma will always be grandma... I think it looks just fine on me.

I'm lucky because I have no gray air yet...but, I'm guessing when it starts turning gray I will color it..and keep the length..

I think you should wear it however you like it.

I am an older woman and I have long hair. If it were short I believe I would closely resemble a poodle... What I wouldn't give to be able to have a short, sophisticated hairdo! But, alas, I have this mane of hair that gets caught on the gear shift, out the window, in the door - my son's a good sport about it - if I yelp he looks to see what it might be caught on...and then there are the days he's sitting in class feeling something itching inside his shirt when he pulls out a 3 foot long strand of curly hair... :) It isn't all bad though, I receive compliments daily - wherever I go.

I was born with hair long enough to braid, I have had long hair my entire life. It is not a pain to keep up, I don't curl it or blow dry it. I take about 10 to 15 minutes in the shower, get dressed, put on my make up and go.

My long hair is a part of who I am, I could never cut it, nor will I. My mother still has her hair long, she's 77. My grandmother died when she was in her 80's with her long hair.

I think ALL people, men and women should have long hair. I think long hair on men is sexy.

Recently though, 3 of my male friends have cut their long, beautiful hair and donated it so cancer patients can have dignity. I miss their hair, and have the utmost respect for them for the reason they cut it off. They are all 3 growing it back and had always intended too even before they sat in that chair to chop it off.

OK, back to the original question: HELL NO there is any age to chop off the hair!!! Don't we have enough dictatorship with the government?

shekelcounter I just love your picture, oh wait, you don't even bother posting one.
I think that every woman that has a posted photograph on here looks fabulous with her hair. That is my opinion! Not all have really long hair or really short hair. I know that if I got negative comments about my hair, I would change it and am sure these women would too. Not that we base our lives on other people's opinions, but there are some people that have sound opinions that know you and know if something does look better on you. Most women also not only use mirrors, but look at their photographs. Photographs do show what others see. You don't even post a photograph, what are you afraid of being seen?
