| Long hair on older women Posted: 4/23/2008 5:49:32 AM | | I absolutely adore long hair on any woman. It's feminine, why can't an older woman be feminine? | |

| Long hair on older women Posted: 4/23/2008 6:43:13 AM | | One thing about long hair..........you can be on the far side of the bed.......and still get hair in your mouth! | |

| Long hair on older women Posted: 4/23/2008 10:55:31 AM | | My grandmother died with hair that was longer than she was tall. She kept it plaited and wrapped in a bun at the back of her head. It was amazing to watch her do her hair. She could comb, plait, and put it up in less than 20 minutes. | |

| Long hair on older women Posted: 4/23/2008 3:54:17 PM | If I cut my hair I will no longer have superhuman powers!
Without reading through the many replies, ( I am at work and thus should be working), I wonder how many have considered that there are some religious groups that believe it is a sin for a woman to cut her har (from birth to the grave, or upon entering the church to grave) and if she as much as snips those dratted split ends she will be sent directly to H**l. I grew up with this teaching instilled in me and so I've seen women of all ages with long hair. Some of the over 40 ladies were quite lovely in the way they did their hair. Consideration of styles that look good on you and hair hygiene, make all the difference.
IMHO....ladies do what makes you feel good about yourself....I'm wondering what I would look like with a Britney buzz

| Long hair on older women Posted: 4/23/2008 4:43:33 PM | | I too love long hair on women of any age. seems most around my age go for short I suppose for ease to deal with. | |

| Long hair on older women Posted: 4/23/2008 6:11:49 PM | The shortest my hair has ever been was shoulder length. It takes absolutely no effort to keep it long because all I do is wash, condition, and use mousse to keep it from being totally crazy. I go outside with it wet even when it's below freezing. In the summer or when exercising, I either put it in a ponytail, bun, or french braid to keep from getting too hot. I'm not sure I would know who I am without my long hair because it's so much a part of my identity. Strangers have come up to me since I was a little kid to comment on my hair and they still do. A little old lady came up to me in the grocery store a couple days ago and asked me if my hair was real and if she could touch it. There are some women that I think look great with short hair, but I doubt that I would. | |

| Long hair on older women Posted: 4/23/2008 6:18:24 PM | I love longer hair (in both sexes). But knowing the work involved with keeping long hair not looking like a rat's nest (as I cut my hair shorter with each passing year), I can certainly understand how the opposite sex might wish to do the same as the years go by. Still though, there is nothing like the statuesque beauty of a woman with well-cared-for long hair -- at any age.

| Long hair on older women Posted: 4/23/2008 10:13:05 PM | I think it is how you take care of yourself, if you take the proper care of your hair it looks good either long or short...if you don't it wont look good either way.
It is funny I heard when I was growing up that once you reach 30 you should never wear your hair long as a female....or your skirts over your knees...to me both are outdated and it is more important to do what feels/looks good to you than anyone else.
Why base your options on others opinions...you will never make everyone happy and only confuse yourself?

| Long hair on older women Posted: 4/23/2008 11:59:54 PM | Long or short, your hair will look good if it's in good condition and healthy

| Long hair on older women Posted: 4/24/2008 3:08:43 AM | if it suits the person 's face and it's in good condition, yes! if it has no bounce or shine and does nothing for the person's face, no!
past the shoulders yes, personally don't find ultra long hair all that attractive on most women over 45.

| Long hair on older women Posted: 4/24/2008 11:53:16 AM | I now wear mine long... it's past shoulders... and I do it because it's my own preference for me.
Use to dye it blonde and kept it short.. very short. My ex liked it like that... I did it for a change prior to meeting him. Once we split, I just didn't really think about it and before I knew it, my red red red roots were there and it was halfway to my shoulders.
I was primary care-giver to my parents, who I kept at home, till they passed away...so, didn't pay attention to my own hair.. didn't take time to dye it blonde or have it cut, etc.
Now... well... I like the versatility of having it long. Most times I wear it up in a ponytail under a ballcap. It's no hassel to keeping it long. Wash and go. I don't blow dry or use curling iron... nada... just don't take the time.
Suits my real personality. Ponytail, bobby sox, tennis shoes, jeans, t-shirt. But, then, I'm a chic who loves to go to watch SuperMotorCross racing. Would live at a track if I could. Or, right on the Ocean... surfing.

| Long hair on older women Posted: 4/24/2008 10:46:02 PM | So that means or rather Meant when I turned 40 or so I should have chopped off the waist length locks?
I don't think so.
Although I keep my hair length shoulder to mid back length (when it gets long) now - my hair is totally thick and healthy and I would not have the length any other way.
... and I keep it this length because I like it at this length as I prefer to put in a ponytail for the helmet (bicycle), etc - and to think that I should rearrange my hair styles due to age in order to get a guy in order to "remain attractive" is utterly ridiculous!!!

| Long hair on older women Posted: 4/24/2008 11:21:40 PM | | Age has nothing to do with hairstyle .... hairstyle is about how your style makes you feel about yourself. | |

| Long hair on older women Posted: 4/25/2008 7:20:29 AM | I am almost 45 and love my long hair. I have long hair for me and noone else. I will say it takes a lot of work to keep it. I have curly hair and have to blow it dry and straighten it. Normal- cheap shampoo and conditioner is not an option for me. I am lucky to have a friend in the hair profession so I can get my products for half off. I always wondered why older women cut off their hair and now I understand why... I will keep my long for as long as I possibly can. I have seen some beautiful short cuts that work for many women. We are as beautiful as we feel... so feel beautiful!!! | |

| Long hair on older women Posted: 4/25/2008 9:20:50 AM | After my accident I spent 6 months in hospital settings. Had to cut it fairly short because 5 of those months I was laying in a bed. But I am soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo glad it is finally long again! My photo is 5 years growth from right above shoulders. One poster said:
It takes absolutely no effort to keep it long That is so true. Wash and go. I personally don't feel like "me" if it isn't long... it's just the ole' hippie in me, I guess.
I'm in my 50's. I dare anyone to tell me I *should* cut my hair just because I am 'older' now!!

| Long hair on older women Posted: 4/25/2008 9:42:32 AM | I'm 57 and my hair was to my waist (if I had one ) till yesterday. I whacked off around 2 inches, so technically, it's long.
I love the freedom to NOT have "helmet hair" via hair spray and reshaping every couple of weeks like I did when it was short.
I don't care what society thinks about a geriatric woman's choice of hair style. leave me the eff alone and every other woman--regardless if they have it long or short or none at all, and no one gets hurt!!!!!!

| Long hair on older women Posted: 4/25/2008 9:48:41 AM | I can't believe this thread is still going and going. I will bet no one has cut or grown their hair because of this thread. We will all continue to do exactly what we want. | |

| Long hair on older women Posted: 4/25/2008 10:51:24 AM | Last month, I tried a new hairdresser. I love the way she coloured it. It's tri-colour pale blond, medium blond and mocha. Looks awesome. That's the good part. The bad part is I asked her to trim it, just to remove the dead ends.. Well, she got scissor -happy and cut about 2 inches off the length so now it's a little above my shoulders. And, the cut is uneven so it's harder for me to deal with. I was so damn mad!!! Grrrr. Now, it's going to take a couple of months to get it back to it's original length. I asked her why she didn't listen to my instructions. She said that she didn't think a woman " my age" should have shoulder length hair. How long or short I want to wear my hair is my choice, not hers or anyone else. Needless to say, I'm in the market for a new hairdresser. Ms. Moon.......luv your hair! Who's your hairdresser?
Oh yeah I almost forgot: OP I wear my hair to please me. Not to please others including the opposite sex.

| Long hair on older women Posted: 4/25/2008 12:14:28 PM | i had long hair (down 2 the middle of my back) until recently when i went in 2 have it cut & as u can c by my pic.. my hair`s quite short now.. the reason y i had gotten it all cut off is b/c i went in 2 get tested 4 cancer.. i figure before i went in that i was going 2 be diagnosed w/it.. so i went ahead & got my hair cut (kinda would take the 'shock value' outta my kids if in the event i did have cancer.. then by that time they would be use 2 seeing me w/short hair)..
the results came back.. i`m cancer free!.. BUT still have the short hair!.. DOH!.. ..
my co-workers all say that i look 'younger' (bless their hearts!.. ) since i had gotten my locks cut off.. .. and the jury is still out in regards 2 my kids.. ..
