| Long hair on older women Posted: 5/3/2008 10:14:48 AM | ...Well "I prefer" to keep my hair shorter...and in my "my opinion" it suits my face shape and my personality. I wonder about people who will critize others, not even knowing them yet calling them less than sexy, lazy and other put downs based on hair length alone.... My goodness I think thats mean sprited and shallow. I can easily grow my hair but its very unlikey that one's personality traits will ever change. Hopefully I will meet someone who appreciate me for all that I am including the length of my hair.

| Long hair on older women Posted: 5/3/2008 2:01:41 PM | I think the older (like 70ish) that would be the older woman, looks very elegant (sp)?? with a nice long braid as opposed to short hair standing on end or flattened to her head. I think it doesn't matter as long as it suits your lifestyle and how you perceive and like yourself. Personally, I find it a lot easier to put mine in a quick ponytail when I am paged out in the middle of the nite. Saves on scaring old women with long hair ( could be a cardiac call lol) and small children lol. Each to their own. Whatever works for that person. If the majority of men find it sexy!! Party on | |

| Long hair on older women Posted: 5/3/2008 3:48:08 PM | I always wore my hair long (to my butt) until about 7 years ago when I cut off my 16 inch ponytail to donate it. But I've missed the long hair and have been trying to grow it long ever since.... which is taking far longer now! lol
Mine is long in the back, but feathered around my face in the front. I like it and really don't care what anyone else thinks. If I decided tomorrow to cut it, I would be doing it for me.

| Long hair on older women Posted: 5/6/2008 12:29:20 PM | OK...a topic I can speak to. Women...there's an R&B song: "I AM NOT MY HAIR". OP do what you want. And I understand the hair tug, trust me. :)
But if I may. Having been through what I've been through I have a little epiphany I'd like to share. My whole life I had long, curly, Diana Ross Diva Hair. People wanted to know who permed it. The natural curls garnered lots of attention. It was a part of me. And then I got cancer. At 34. Only married two years. I even considered removing the breast over taking chemo to keep my hair. WHAT A MISTAKE THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN. I found another young woman who lost her hair. She was 27 and beautiful bald. So she inspired me. And not to let the cancer win, when my hair did start to come out. (Really weird, you can just reach up and pull it out!) We had a head shaving party. When I was newly shaved everyone went silent. I was amazed...it was beautiful. BALD! And I celebrated that.
I discovered wigs and found an addiction. So if anyone wants advice on that do let me know. I have about 20 and match my hair to my outfit. I have hair now. But I wear them anyway. Its too much fun. BUT another point...
When my hair started coming back, it was this little buzz cut. I got tired of wearing a wig one day and took it off. Suddenly truck drivers were honking, I was getting winked at. A woman pulled up beside me in the car and started screaming. I thought I had done something awful...I rolled down the window...she yelled..."Your haircut is the bomb girl!" And I was laughing hysterically. When I wear it short, it draws so much attention. The key is that it is VERY short. Not medium short. It seems that short short or long tend to be sexy. The very short shows off the neck. And if you carry yourself well your movement is extremely feminine. And I find that European men tend to like the little french bob. But the reaction to the short shocked me. So I keep the little short do, and put hair on. And men seem to love the variety. I thought that was just a stereotype but its very real.
So if you are curious, or want to play with several looks, there are ways not to have to commit yourself right away. OF course you have to be prepared. Some people like me brunette. Others Red. Others blonde. Everyone has their opinion. Everyone of my pictures is someone's favorite. So don't let the opinions drive you nuts. If someone matters of course listen to them. But do what you want. That will be the most beautiful you...because YOU love it.
All my love to the beautiful women here... Lauren

when a lady trades in her long hair because her friends say it would be better or it is "easier" to care for that is when you have lost sexy points
Its not my desire to trade jousts...but that is in your not so humble opinion Tom. Its been my experience that what you speak is true for some men. But not all. There are even those that like me bald the best.
When I split with my ex it certainly wasn't due to looks. He says he fell in love with the girl with the long crazy curls. But he found the bald me to be exotic. And there were days when I was newly short that he found himself carried away with it. I will spare everyone the details. It got to the point he preferred the short. Even when I wanted to be long. Everyone of my pictures aside from the bald and the short cut are wigs. And I might add, I haven't been to a hair salon in over a year. I don't sit in a stylists chair waiting for highlights. I shake it out of the bag and put it on and go out the door. (and you'd be amazed how well they stay on...i'll ride in your convertible no problem. had my own for a long time.)
You might not like any of my styles at all...and disagree completely. That's all well and good. But I'd hate to see any ladies take that to heart when my experience has been completely different.

| Long hair on older women Posted: 5/7/2008 11:48:56 AM | he length of a woman's hair at any age depends of the woman. My mother used to go on and on about a girlfriend of mine that wore her hair hanging to her waist until in her forties. saying that she was too old for that style. I think that women should wear their hair how it pleases them, whatever age they are. I have always had thin hair and very fine and it didnot look good long. When I married, my husband told e that he always loved long hair on a woman and asked me to let it grow. I did for about a year and a half and looked scraggly the whole time. One day, I got fed up with it and went to the hair dresser and came home with a short style and looked much better. He admitted to me that it did look better short and never ask me to let it grow again. I too love long hair and my beautiful granddaughters have nearly to their waist. It is a pain for their mother's to keep styled nicely but feel that it is worth it. Their are some really cute shorter styles for the rest of us. My dear grandmother never cut her hair in her life except for trim and she wore it braided and wrapped around her head very beautifully. I can't imagine her any other way. As far as men's hair, I do not care at all for long hair especially on older men. But that is theirs and can wear it to please themselves the same as I can mine. But no matter how long or short you wear it, or at whatever age, nothing looks nicer than clean and well groomed and styled hair, even if it means no hair at all. JMO | |

| Long hair on older women Posted: 5/7/2008 12:01:51 PM | Wow! this topic is still up here. Guess I'll keep it up here.
Long hair is great, on both men and women, as long as you personally look good in it. I've seen 20 somethings who look unattractive with long hair but really cute with short hair, and I've seen 40 somethings whose face isn't the right size or shape for short hair and still look very attractive with long hair. It's the person, not the age.

some past her prime 50 year old woman with hair way past her shoulders
or in a ponytail down to her waist.......yeah that's it..THAT's the ticket !
Then let's put her on some hip hugger jeans, bare midriff scarf, spaghetti
trapped top, five inch spikes, a nose stud, a butt 'winged' tattoo, a navel ring
a glitter-bag, or a 'back pack'......or maybe a tight micro min-skirt (mid thigh of course
or a bit shorter...).........YEAH THAT's the TICKET

| Long hair on older women Posted: 5/8/2008 11:44:28 PM | | debb1110, you are very fortunate. I also like long hair and have tried in the past to let it grow long and didn't look becoming on me. Even when I was very young, cute and slender, it just looks better short. I say "Hats off to all of you ladies that have beautiful long hair". Wear it proudly. | |

| Long hair on older women Posted: 5/9/2008 6:58:56 AM | hazeldreaming^^^ i'm happy that your ex loved your new look. of course you are blessed with a great face. not all women are. so i think they have to enhance what assets they DO have.
look at my quote again. the key words are "because her friends say it would be better or it is easier to care for..."
when a lady trades in her long hair because her friends say it would be better or it is "easier" to care for that is when you have lost sexy points
if you want to look sexy in MANY/MOST men's eyes you don't do what your girlfriends tell you or what is easiest. IF you want to look sexy. that's my point. in other words... DON'T ABANDON SHIP! don't give in to age. fight it with all the tenacity in your character. when you give into age you have lost the battle.
hazeldreaming, congratulations on your fight against cancer. you still look good in a beret. in my not so humble opinion.

| Long hair on older women Posted: 5/9/2008 1:17:08 PM | It depends, I chopped all my long hair and became a blond everyone think I look much better. If you have a cool hair cut short hair can be chic | |

| Long hair on older women Posted: 5/9/2008 5:57:08 PM | joey who? who are you talking about? if she's a singer than she's probably very pretty. i'm talking about you women in the real world. long hair is sexy. short hair is not AS sexy in most instances. most men will agree. example:who is sexier ... a short man or a tall man? all things being equal most women would say the tall man is sexier. same thing with women's hair. the long hair wins!!!! | |

Yes, but she was even more hot with short hair than with long. If you need long hair to be sexy then are you really that sexy?
I agree that most men prefer long hair but I think long hair only looks good if it's healthy and shiny
