| Long hair on older women Posted: 10/8/2006 4:42:52 PM | One drawback, long hair really ages a person, drags them down.
Your hair is a nice length, and looks good on you. I know what you mean about it aging a person...for some people it really does. Others, it doesn't. I would have never guessed you were 46.

| Long hair on older women Posted: 10/8/2006 6:45:53 PM | My great grandmother had snowy white hair, and she kept it in a bun. She'd take it down to brush it a few times during the day. She said my greatgrandfather loved to watch her do it. Granted, I was only 9 or 10 when she died at 93, but I'll never forget how quickly she could put it up in a bun, twirl, twist, ZIP! and it was done.
Lots of classic movie stars have had long hair. Katherine Hepburn had long hair and wore it in a french twist.
If I started losing it, I'd probably cut it shorter. But mine is extremely thick and has a lot of body, so I"ll keep it for a while longer....

| Long hair on older women Posted: 10/8/2006 7:25:10 PM | Long hair is an asset - I like it. Doesn't have to be Crystal Gale length - a little over shoulder length is the sweet spot for me. I think it enhances femininity and to me that's always a good thing regardless of age. That's my opinion.
BTW: I personally have no desire to grow mine that long to test out whether I would like to deal with it or not. I will concede that it may be a pain to take care off willingly and without a field test. Still like it on a woman anyway.

| Long hair on older women Posted: 10/10/2006 10:43:10 AM | Bionicwoman> quote::: What about long hair, under your arm pits and legs, do they like that too?
My answer::
Ofcourse they do!!! Ask me!! But.. I do have mine in dreadlocks.
Actually being pt. Cherokee Indian.. couldn't really tell ya. Never have grown much on my legs and have never had "any" under my arms. I'm blessed!!! Actually God probably figured I'd be a klutz and cut my arm off if I had to shave under it/ or them.

| Long hair on older women Posted: 10/13/2006 6:50:05 PM | I live in Florida where we have numerous elderly Snowbirds that occupy our sunshine state in the winter time, many fron Canada, the norm is 4 inch hair that seems to resemble some sort of Poodle with a bad hair day---GROSS--- Please just buy a baseball cap and save yourself a lot of money!!!! There is nothing more SEXY than an elderly woman with long hair and the grey mixed in with it!!!! There may be bedrooms that will accomidate the POODLE LADIES, but mine is NOT one of them! Just a thought from the woods on a slow night. | |

| Long hair on older women Posted: 10/14/2006 10:11:01 AM | Every man who has passed through my life has asked me to keep the hair. Personally, I'm glad to let it hang down, as God gave it to me. I tried a test once to see if the hair changed my sales ability. I tried expensive permanents (see photos), short hair and long hair. My sales results did not change. The perms meant upkeep. The short hair had moments between lengths, again meaning upkeep. The long hair is the easiest for me to manage. So I'm sticking to it. | |

| Long hair on older women Posted: 10/14/2006 11:41:30 AM | I have long hair and I'm 48. I have it because I love it. It has nothing to do with what a man thinks about it. Having said that, every man who sees my profile comments on how much they love my long red hair. When meeting me in person they reiterate that comment and say it looks better than the picture. Yes, it does require alot of upkeep, but for me, its worth it. I have no idea why people would say that after a certain age you should cut your hair, its all about upkeep and grooming. Long, stringy, greasy locks look bad at any age. | |

| Long hair on older women Posted: 10/15/2006 6:46:10 AM | | Having kept my hair short for most of my adult life I decided at the age of 50 to let it grow. It is now very long and I like it. I've been told by some male friends that they find my hair when down very attractive. A female friend who knew me with sort hair commented only the other day that wearing my hair down makes me look younger. I mostly wear it up, more convenient in the office and on hot days (not that we'll have too many more of then in the UK for a while). I can envisage cutting my hair short again :-). | |

| Long hair on older women Posted: 10/15/2006 4:29:55 PM | | My hair is longer now than in my profile photos, and I want to just let it grow. It's easier to take care of. I just lay it over the pillow at night and in the morning, it is hardly even messed up. With short hair, I had to be fussing with it all the time. I don't think there are any rules written in stone about long hair on older women anyway. I've spent too much fruitless time trying to please other people, now it's my turn to be pleased. I really like it long, and it is part of what makes me feel feminine. I want to keep it that way. | |

| Long hair on older women Posted: 10/15/2006 4:37:06 PM | | I've always preferred long hair. I still look good, and I wouldn't cut my hair unless I was physically disabled. I can't stand women cutting their hair short. It seems lazy to me. And it doesn't really look good. | |
|
| Long hair on older women Posted: 10/15/2006 5:35:30 PM | I wouldn't say that wearing your hair short is lazy; it really takes more work if it's short and styled. It's just a matter of preference. I had two great aunts, sisters, who wore theirs completely opposite. One, who has passed away, wore hers long but braided and in a bun. I can remember nights when I stayed with her how she would take it down and brush it out as she sat in her wheelchair. The other, who is now almost 95 years old, wears hers short and will not miss her Saturday visits to her hairdresser so she looks nice in church on Sunday.
I have a sister who use to wear hers long; actually, all four of us girls did. Anyway, the one just older than me found out she had cancer and would have to go through chemo. She cut hers off some as a way of getting ready for it to fall out. After her treatments were done and her hair started growing back, she decided to keep it short. She's one of those who can wear her hair any way she wants though and be beautiful.

| Long hair on older women Posted: 10/16/2006 3:31:24 PM | I don't think that there should be an age that dictates length of hair. I wear mine long because it's very curly and thick. I've had it short but the upkeep drove me nuts..whoever says long hair takes more work hasn't dealt with MY hair! What it all comes down to however, is what YOU like...if you feel better, prettier, younger, less hassled ..whatever ..in long or short hair...then go for it! I've always admired the Halle Berry's of the world that can pull off the short pixie which such ease...I am not one of them...so I find what works for me and adapt it as required. I WILL be one of those older ladies who keeps her length...but not for anyone else but me. Ladies ~ I think we should stop worrying about what society dictates as the norm or beautiful and learn to love ourselves just the way we are...and you're all fabulous in your own way. | |

| Long hair on older women Posted: 10/16/2006 5:14:21 PM | Funny, I was looking at some photos of dead Iraqis in the news today and their relatives ...wives, husbands, mothers, father, brothers, sisters ...asthe violence surrounds them, many thousands of the 9/11 experience we had ....and thought of the 500,000 Iraqi kids who died of starvation and diseases due, in part, to our Oil for Food sanctions over ten years and then, of course, Desert Storm when as those poor young men who were conscripted in Saddam's army were pulling out from Kuwait and straggling back to Iraq as our brave fighter jets just strafed them and killed them, by the thousands, in cold blood during their retreat in a blood bath ....and the fatherless kids waiting for their dads who never came home ....
and then I saw this post.
I'm not sure which convinces me most that we live in a very crazy world.

| Long hair on older women Posted: 10/16/2006 5:43:07 PM | I recently cut all my hair off AND dyed it dark (from blonde) and the overwhelming consensus from everyone who knows me says it makes me look YOUNGER, not older! And I'll go for that ANYTIME! LOL! | |

| Long hair on older women Posted: 10/17/2006 8:48:13 PM | I also have long, straight hair. Yes, the men definitely love it. Have never heard a complaint. I used to wear my hair very short & permed. One day I became allergic to perms. Ended up in Emergency over it. Didn't know how to wear my hair. Decided to let it keep growing. I like it. Yes, I find it more work than when I had short, permed hair. I have heard that women over 40 should not have long hair. But I like it & feel more attractive with having it long. To each his own. I believe it is whatever you feel comfortable with.
