I love my long hair ...

I wear my hair to please me ... but have to honestly say that since it's so easy to manage whether it's long or short ... I'd be tempted to wear my hair to please my man.

I had very long hair until my husband died three years ago. The grief and stress did a number on my skin. I felt I looked older, that it was making me look older. If you have really good genes and no sagging skin under the chin I think long hair looks good. Taking care of it was never something I felt was too difficult to do. Although I will say tangles were a pain

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm, good question...... I myself, have refused to cut my hair short. For years, I've noticed that women over 50 seem to switch to short hair. I don't know what it is, but I feel that maybe it's a sign of getting older, which I refuse to do..........Not yet, anyway. Maybe the day will come that I will give into it, but until then I enjoy having longer hair...... By no means is it to my waist line or near there, but it's past my shoulders..... Would like to hear what men think, tho......

I have always had short hair, only once did I have long hair and that was when I was in the junior high. I don't need to have long hair to know I'm a woman and if that's what men need to have, that's their problem. I've gotten some nasty remarks about what my sexuality may be simply be cause of the length of my hair...now how are men able to judge that by someones hair length? Being a woman and having short hair does not mean you're gay/bi/dyke or any other other mean name they use. I am very much straight, always have been, always will be. And short hair can be just as much work to take care of over long hair, we just use less shampoo and conditioner. Some women look good with long hair, some look better with short hair.

My mom turned 69 this year, and she has long hair down her back. She's had long hair almost all her life, so if she were to suddenly cut it short, it would look kind of odd. When she was younger, people were always telling her that she looked like June Carter Cash.

Well im turning 49 in November, and when i was a teen my hair was real long, but the last 20 years my hair has been shoulder lenght and would never cut it any shorter expect for a trim...i also feel when 50 or even younger women feel they have to have short hair....not me, keep it at the shoulders and layered and dyed as grey is not my thing....i pretty happy withmyself and good self esteem.....

I just turned 52 this past August and my hair is well below my shoulders. I touch up the dark roots (with blonde) every 6 weeks. It isn't a hassle at all. It gets washed and conditioned every night. I think it depends on the build of the lady as well as the shape of the face. I have had mine cut very short and it looked dreadful because I am thin and have a long neck. On some women very short hair looks great and sometimes I wish I could wear mine that way. Long hair and/or short hair isn't for everyone.

I've never cared what others thought about how I dressed, etc.....My hair is down to my derriere....cause i like it like that....It is thick and naturally curly...not a lot of work, really.

My mother finally gave up (why don't you cut your hair/wear it like you did in high school (arrghhhh)........and doesn't comment on my hair anymore, LOL

Sometimes people will say: "Have you ever thought about cutting your hair?"

My answer: Yup

LOL, LOL

I just turned 60; I will cut it when it no longer suits me, or will wear it in a bun with litte curlies around my face; and since I have been a ballerina all of my life; justl ook like one, finally!

Truth is that it looks good on almost every woman, no matter her age. I think on a much older woman it shows a sort of character; where she's been.

After I gave birth to my favorite son (well, ok, he's the Only one), at the ripe old age of 22, I decided that I looked too young with long hair. People gave me a look kinda like I was a teenage mother. I cut it. I still looked too young. See mug shot <<

Then once when my son was in pre-school, I permed it. See horizontal photo.
He freaked out when I picked him up, saying, "You're not My mommy" and crying. I had to speak to convince him that I was mommy with a new hairdo.
Don't scare little children. It's not nice.

Loved your comment. Ha ha!!! Mine is shoulder length and I am 60, but length of hair is just another personal preference like weight, height, etc. Nothing wrong with that.

I'm 53, have hair a little past shoulder length. I've given up the "Alice in Wonderland" look, but I like being able to wear a pony tail and get it out of my eyes when I work out.

Works for me, and my boyfriend likes it.

A month ago, I had 5" cut off my hair, and I am still regretting it. It was down to my butt, now it is down to the middle of my back. I wanted to loose the layered look, and have it cut straight across. At the time, I thought that I would try it, after all it would grow back. When I am working I liked to put it into a ponytail, then flip it through the ponytail elastic again, so that from the top of my head to my shoulders, my hair would appear to be loose, while still fastened with the band. Now it is too short to do that. Darn. Actually, my hairdresser had be suggesting that I cut it a bit shorter for months. Oh well, now I know for sure that I prefer my hair down to my butt. Hair grows at approx. 1/2" a month, 5" = 10 months to get it back to where it was.

Hey Rossal! Happy Birthday! I guess you survived the day...to live another...and you don't look a day older

I see the hair thing continues on. In my current post pic, my hair is kinda short...but that was a long time ago

I have been keeping it at my waist until it all got to be the same length. Now, I'm gonna go even longer. I figured not everyone can grow long hair...a genetics and/or health thing. So, if you can...perhaps you should...I dunno...I just like it.

I saw an elderly lady with long silver braids down to her waist once a few years back. Man, I can hardly wait. I know I won't be grey/silver for maybe another twenty years (if I'm like my mother).

As for style...my skirts came back into style just last year. I love being able to go anywhere now and buy my hippie clothes again...oops another thread perhaps! The point being...my hair "Long Beautiful Hair" or "My Freak Flag"...goes with my "style". Oh, someone refered to extra chins not going with long hair...oh well

A guy friend who is on this site, recently turned me on to another site, for people who have or like long hair. It's pretty neat ya'll,,, lots of info about care, products, styles, ornaments,,, it's all about hair...
Mine is now past my b*tt and I considered it to be long, but you would not believe some of the hair on this site,,,, I was amazed.
I think I'll just keep mine,,, it suits me... If it doesn't suit you,, who cares,, it simply a matter of personal taste anyway. If you feel better about yourself with short hair,, good for you, wear it that way, I'm sure it looks great!
But, don't try to lump me into some catagory of your choosing with statements about what is age approprate. Hair does not make my face sag causing me to look older,,, that is gravity and age taking charge and I must sadly report to you all, it effects much more than just your face.
I get compliments from the most unexpected sources tho. Not very long ago I was going down an isle in the super market when a young Mom and her little girl of about 5 stopped beside me. The Mom said her little girl really liked my hair, so I spoke to the child thanking her. She looked at me with big blue eyes and said, "Are you a princess?" I loved the compliment and smiled the rest of the day.

well I guess I am what you are talking about... but I don't understand what the problem is.. I'm a product of the 60's and now I am in my 60's I don't see why I should cut my hair to .... what? look like MY gran? As far as upkeep... this is the best ever !!!! no need to visit the hairdresser.... I just snip a bit off as I fancy and hair dye? a thing of the past... lol... nature has given me what I used to pay out for... yea !!!! Upkeep... zero! If it's too hot I just give it a twist and stick a slide in.... when it's cold - my ears are nice and snug!
As for guys? It has never worried me what they might think, girls either for that matter..... I do it for me !!!! Must be the old 'hippy' in me.

So long as it looks good on you and feels good what does it matter? If you are tired of your hair do go to a good hairdresser and get anothero ne. It is you who needs to be happy with it. It is you who decides what is attractive on you. Other peoples opinions are just that opinions.

I soooo, disagree with the above poster regarding having long hair after 40 is some lame attempt to hang onto your youth,,,geezus ..long hair looks great on some people, I prefer long hair for many reasons, one is I feel more feminine with it, second I have a round face so the length helps with that, I have never, not one time had a man say to me, I rather you cut your hair off, ..and by the way this will make you probably act more your age...
Hair is hair, some look fantastic with short hair, some don't and etc...its just hair, long or short doesnt change one's personality...bye fishys

I have a round face....I really struggled with getting my long blonde spiral waistlength hair cut or trimmed or.....I needed a bit of a trim a coupla years ago and my daughter usually does it....when she snipped the scissors...she declared "oops" and I turned around to look and she had a foot of hair in her hand....She said "Mom its just time". I was freeked but how do you glue it back on? I had loved my long hair...it was my confidence and my recognisance (sp?).....I went to work with shoulder length hair...unprofessionally chopped off...and my coworkers cheered.....They loved it......and now, obviously since then, I have experimented with my hair.....it does get a bit shorter each time....but hey...ya know.....It is just a sign that I am getting better....and not older....I know some ladies with waist length hair....and it really ages some....esp if the first 4 - 6 inches from the scalp are grey....like come on........JMHO

I was amazed to see this thread. I will die with my hair long and it has nothing to do with hanging on to any youth as a few of the posters suggested......it is something ingrained in all the females in my family except my mother. Even my dad, part native american let his grow long in his 60's. My brother has long hair still in his 40's...for us it is most likely a native american thing. My grandmothers was at her waist when she was 90 and had little gray still..same with my dad when he died at 64, no gray.... I am 54 and still do not have ANY GRAY in my hair and I do not color it..... Everytime I tried to go shorter in my life, all the men in my life HATED IT....my son begged me not to cut or perm it again..said it did not look like his mom at all LOL......I simply am not ME with short hair......I have no where to hide then LOL LOL.

I know if a guy does not like my long hair he simply will not like me......and I stopped listening to those gals who kept telling me at 35 it was time to cut it off...

Maybe I will shave my head one day tho ..who knows LOL...

I don't think it matters what age you are with respect to hair length. I have seen young and old look both good and bad with long hair, and the same with short hair. Different hair styles suit different people, I think an awareness of what suits you is most important and what you feel comfortable with.
I know several women that keep their hair long for men, what a shame. I have also seen women cut their hair and the men that protested most , loved the due most as well.
I say do what you want, it is your hair!
