| Long hair on older women Posted: 2/15/2007 6:45:53 PM | OK, this thread stopped awhile ago, but I couldn't resist adding my 2 cents. I am an older woman (55) with long hair & have never liked really short hair on myself or other women- I just think long hair is more feminine & flattering. I look much younger than my age-most people think I'm in my 30s(!), so I feel long hair still looks good on me. However, I do have to say that when I see the back of someone w/long silky hair & then she turns around & she is at least in her mid-sixties or older & looks it, I do a double-take! The face just doesn't go with the hair! It's like that movie "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane, if anyone is old enough here to remember that one!! The camera creeps on on the back of Baby Jane w/long blonde hair & than she turns around & (Scream) she looks like a skeleton!! Yes, I think when I start really looking my age, I'll go for a medium cut. | |

| Long hair on older women Posted: 2/15/2007 9:38:41 PM | | Well I prefer longer hair on a woman. In my opinion it looks sexy as hell if it is taken care of. However then are many women that look just as sexy with short hair. | |

| Long hair on older women Posted: 2/16/2007 12:21:07 AM | I think you have to go with what looks good on you. I'd love to have long flowing locks, but due to a recent illness and the meds, it's back to medium length. It looks a lot better too. But that doesn't mean I don't see older ladies with gorgeous hair down to their tailbones and don't covet every strand!
I also tend cut my hair different when ending a serious relationship. Thin straight hair down to my waist did nothing for me, so off it came. My hair length is never going to be about what age I am, only about how it feels to me. I am hoping it will go back to being what I'm used to, and I can get it down to the middle of my back again though, this just below the shoulder stuff is annoying!

| Long hair on older women Posted: 2/17/2007 12:51:06 PM | | I'm one of those guys who much prefer really long hair on women of any age. Especially long hair on older women makes me happy because it is so unusual and in my opinion it subtracts 10 years in comparison to short hair. Some think long hair is easier to handle, some think it's a pain in the ass but either way shouldn't a man who likes long hair also be prepared to help his lady take care of it? I would certainly consider that to be a privilegie... Also long hair don't just have to hang down the sides of the head, there many different updos. | |

| Long hair on older women Posted: 2/17/2007 1:39:27 PM | ...The vote is in, 12 men so far stated that long hair on women is their preferrance, 9 men said it didn't make an ounce of difference but not one male actually came out and said that they found woman with shorter hair more attractive...hmmmm food for thought to all us ladies with the shorter styles.... one male outright stated he would not date a woman with shorter hair......so ladies, are you willing to let your locks grow in order to attract the majority of the males out there? Not me....I still maintain that hair does not make the person, I like my hair just the way it is and I'm sorry that I am not appealing to some of you out there, but I have no intention of letting my hair grow. I like me just the way I am.

| Long hair on older women Posted: 2/17/2007 3:22:54 PM | If we all had long hair what fun would that be?
Who knows if we almost all had long hair, short hair might be of great interest just because it was different.
Person preferences are a great thing.

| Long hair on older women Posted: 2/17/2007 4:21:46 PM | | I believe it is up to the individual themselves on how long they want their hair and at what age. I have long hair and I am 45. I plan on growing it much longer. | |

I have had short hair for a very long time. What amazes me is how some guys feel it's their right to outright insult me because of my choice to wear my hair short. Some guys will out and out insinuate I may not like men because of my short hair if you can imagine anyone with a lack of class like that still walking upright in the year 2007. I am all female and 100% heterosexual and it doesn't matter in the long run what these neandrathals believe, but some deserve a swift kick in the pants for being so declasse'.
I say wear your hair whichever way you chose. If you prefer women with long hair, by all means go for it. I personally can't see myself going through the growing out stages to get my hair to long, but my best friend sells wigs and if I really wanted I could wear a couple of those during the weird stages. If you're going to pass me up all based on the length of my hair then it's best for me that you do. I wouldn't want someone that shallow in the first place.

| Long hair on older women Posted: 2/17/2007 9:06:01 PM | | Go by what makes you look and feel better about yourself! Love yourself or no one else will. I want a man that doe not care about my hair. I want him to look inside me for who I really am! | |

| Long hair on older women Posted: 2/17/2007 9:16:16 PM | I have always had long hair. I tell everyone it is due to laziness. I can't see spending time every day using curling irons, mousse, hairspray, gel, etc. just to look good. I wash and go. If you don't like how I look, don't look at me.
When I was getting ready to turn the big "40", I thought to myself...well, I am going to start getting gray, better get used to short hair...went from waist length to above shoulders. I have never had so many people comment on my hair before..."Why did you do that? What's wrong with gray, long hair?" I let it grow back out, not because of any comments made by anyone, but I like my hair long...not only that, but I froze that winter...LOL.
AND...the fact that guys seem to like it was not a factor in my decision, well, not a major factor.

| Long hair on older women Posted: 2/17/2007 10:48:08 PM | I have had longer (shoulder length) hair all my life. I always worried so much about 'bad hair days,' and OMG, getting a bad haircut was tantamount to a national crisis! Red Alert!!! Brzp, brzp, brzp. Cap'n, her bangs are too short. Dammit, Jim, I'm a beautician, not a magician.
A bout with breast cancer and the chemo afterwards took care of all that angst with the buzz of some clippers and the blink of an eye. The pain of surgery and the side effects of chemo and radiation therapies were NOTHING compared to the agony of seeing all that hair pooled up in my sink. You have no idea how much of your identity is wrapped up in...your hair. I have to say that the time spent being bald, while not great for my ego certainly, made me really look at who I am. I wouldn't suggest that anyone take the route I did to get that introspection *grin* but no one...not the woman wearing the hair, or the men that have such strong opinions about hair styles....should ever forget to remember that the most important thing is what's BENEATH that hair!
Be grateful for hair of ANY length!
And think PINK! :)
~Bobbin PS: For those who've asked and I've not responded yet, thanks to all the good thoughts and well wishes, I'm all back to normal, lumpectomy scar healed almost invisibly and life goes on!

| Long hair on older women Posted: 2/17/2007 11:23:16 PM | I agree with BobbinAlong it's not the lengnth of your hair! | Long hair on older women Posted: 2/18/2007 6:04:05 PM | | I am 54 and let my hair grow long because my ex liked it that way and so do I. I think it looks good and I can put it up when I need to. | |

| Long hair on older women Posted: 2/18/2007 9:07:17 PM | I am going to be 45 in May. I have long hair. I have had almost every length of hair through out my life. I find that I am most comfortable with long hair. But I have told family and friends if the day comes that I look silly wearing it long they must tell me. It is so curly and when I am going to straighten it takes along time. But with the length I can wear it curly and clip it up and it will still have the length I am comfortable with.... I guess the key word is comfotable........if you are comfortable with it then its fine. | |

I have had every length too. It has been short for a very long time and going through the grow out stages would just drive me nuts. I think long hair looks good on very many women and I certainly think you should do what makes you happy and not take what people say they think you should do seriously at all. It's your head and your hair.

| Long hair on older women Posted: 2/19/2007 1:33:13 AM | | I love long hair, but I don't really care what length a lady wears her hair though. | |

| Long hair on older women Posted: 2/20/2007 11:41:51 PM | | I am a 49 year old woman and I still wear my hair long. I am criticised on tnis by my mother and older aunts who have their hair short. I remind them that their own mother never cut her hair her entire life and died at age 69 with hair that would sweep the floor when she took it down. Short hair on older women is a modern thing. 100 years ago a woman of any age with short hair was one that had it cut off due to fever or illness and she was embarrassed until it grew back. My hair is still as thick and red as it ever was. I will continue to wear it long. I do not like the "poodle hair" on older women, I just think it is ugly. | |

| Long hair on older women Posted: 2/25/2007 5:03:24 AM | A friend of mine told me that I'd look good with short hair.In the next breath she went on to say how women of a certain age, with long hair, can often look young from behind. But then when viewed from the front,it can some times come as a shock.Rather than give a verbal response,I decided to grow my hair even longer.
To all you sassy ladies (of a certain age) out there...... who are doing your own thing
