...Oh come on... That is utter nonsense to me, and maybe a few million others!... Well I can see if you do not understand the word "potential" you may get confused. If no one is working then that means there are more people that could be driving, ergo more potential drivers. ...Of course there are more cars on the road with people driving to those stores. I don't imagine those same people would be driving aimlessly around in circles if the stores weren't open... You understand that people use cars for more than just going to shop.

I don't imagine those same people would be driving aimlessly around in circles if the stores weren't open... Well, they could be driving even further as they may go for longer distance driving in the country somewhere. Using even more energy than to just go to the store. Instead of visiting Nanny in the Valley they are able to pick up things at the store, shorter drive, to do chores around the household. We don't know.

Well, they could be driving even further as they may go for longer distance driving in the country somewhere. Keep in mind too, that when people were NOT working, there were usually passengers in those cars when people travelled into the country. The majority of people going to work do not carpool.
