Well for a couple of years (the last few I was with my ex) we both played warcraft. The thing with warcraft is that it's terrible time consuming. I found it very entertaining and she did as well.

It may well have extended our relationship even longer then it would have been otherwise to be honest. It was a bit odd discussing in game stuff with her though particularly at first. People form real freindships in game with other people because your forced to work with one another in large groups. This is a factor that increases the "addictive" nature.

You really have to interact with other people and freindships form. Anyhow we prefered that over watching TV for hours every night. However when we broke up for me it tainted the game so that I'd be reminded of her. I don't play it any longer but I might when the expansion comes out lol.

I don't see it worse then much any other passtime outside the amount of time the charactor developement takes is a bit much.

Something tells me the OP is in a relationship that her boyfreind is trying to escape from. Maybe you'd try to escape with him? I doubt you attacking his gaming will get you anywhere... I'd put money on that.

It's the same thing with a game like Civ 3. One can be the technological leader of the world, and suddenly find oneself under attack and have an essential resource like oil suddenly vanish as the enemy cuts your supply off.

You really, really need to try Civ IV. I was just playing it last night, matter of fact... Hammurabi and Wang Kon decided that, since I (quite rightly) didn't want to piss off Ghengis Khan, who was right on my border, and stop trading with him, that they would tag-team me. Hammurabi nuked my entire coastline, including my capital city (ironically, he had built up a nuclear stockpile and then forced the United Nations to ban all nuclear weapons!), and then spend the next two decades bombing me back into the stone age while I struggled to keep fighting the war I had already been in when they decided to gang up.

So eventually half the continent is glowing in the dark, and finally a mediator arbitrates peace between us all. Not two years later, Hammurabi is knocking on my door... and you know what he wants? For me to help him fight the Carthaginians.

I laughed my ass off. Guy spends twenty years completely obliterating my military and erasing my economy and then he wants my help.

Games. Ya gotta love 'em.
