| Ambien Posted: 10/21/2006 5:09:38 PM | I have taken Ambien before. When I was first discharged from the Marines, I had trouble sleeping. I tried Ambien and damn. Ambien worked for me. Not to be confused with hooked on phonics. However, whenever I took it, I could not remember the time from after I took the pill til I went to sleep. I would wake up and not remember a thing. One time I took one and was chatting on the internet and didn't even remember chatting on the internet. The next day people were asking me if I was on drugs. I still to this day don't remember anything I said.
Also, if I didn't go to sleep right away, I would start to see things. I would browse people's profiles on myspace and the background would move (even though their profile didnt move or have any special effects). I also remember talking to my sister's statue that she had. It's really quite strange.

| Ambien Posted: 10/23/2006 11:02:44 AM | I feel you^^^^; I took one before bed the other nite & was just going to experiment with my Halloween makeup/costume; big mistake, I scared the crap out of myself next morning cause I forgot to take the makeup off....
that CAN'T be good for your skin...
Last nite I went back to the OTC ones, just to see if it was any better, and that was AWFUL; twitchy legs ALL NIGHT LONG and now I feel like I had more than a little Cap'n in me and I didn't drink ANYTHING yesterday.
I'm gonna try the muscle relaxers the doc gave me tonite & see if that's any better.

| Ambien Posted: 10/26/2006 10:08:12 AM | For years I use to have vivid nightmares myself every night and they would continue even after I woke. I never took medication but was finally able to lose the daytime nightmares. Got rid of the ex................. | |
|
| Ambien Posted: 10/27/2006 11:44:21 AM | Success...finally....took two 10 mg cyclobenzaprines (muscle relaxers) before bed, and slept like a baby, with no dreams that I can remember; and no gut rot.
I told the doc about it, and he said if it works, do it.
He prescribed the MR's for the arthritis, scoliosis & nerve inflammation issues in my back and leg, but I don't take them because they make me sleepy (duh, you'd think I'd have figured this one out by myself)
So thanks all, for your help; I don't need them every nite now that I'm getting DECENT sleep, I am more alert during the day, therefore more active and better able to lay down and sleep because I'm tired at bedtime like normal people.
Woo Hoo!

| Ambien Posted: 2/3/2009 9:28:35 AM | Took Ambien got into a car accident and badly hurt! Be careful to get the a full 8 hours or more sleep. I also got up and ate and woke with crumbs and cookies in my bed! I am now taking Deseryl, its non habit forming and works for me. There is a new OTC sleeping aid, I think call Midnights? ask your pharmacy. A lot of the nurses at my docs office are taking them.

| Ambien Posted: 2/3/2009 9:36:47 AM | | Never tried Ambien. On occasion I pop a Lunesta which is a double edged sword as I need the sleep, but it messes with my sleep pattern for the next week. HOWEVER, a few months back I took a Trazadone my ex had left at the house and had the most bizarre realistic dreams imaginable to say nothing of the sleep walking, coupled with some pretty nasty things I said to people. Good times. Lesson learned "don't self medicate". | |

| Ambien Posted: 2/3/2009 9:39:46 AM | Ambien is NOT a benzodiazopine, it's a hypnotic. You should be concerned about the difference in your sleep, or a clash with the dope. It also reacts badly with alcohol in that it's effects are increased. Benzo and alcohol is very dangerous, ie death.I don't know about dope but be careful. Stop mixing your drugs OP! I never hallucinated on Ambien, but was very chilled, like floating out to sea, v relaxed. Too nice a drug in many ways, I no longer take it. | |

| Ambien Posted: 2/5/2009 10:42:51 AM | I feel your pain hun...First of all, Ambien is NOT a Benzodiazapein (sp?), it is an Anti-Hypnotic. I have taken for a long period of time and have experienced the same. The dreams can be vivid and quite scarey at times, but it has really been the only thing that can keep me down for a period of time. I do wake up most nights after 4-5 hours. Please let your MD know, because they do make a controlled release form of Ambien that might work better for you. If combined with a Benzo, (xanax, ativan, valium) it's effects are greater and last longer and even compliment each other - this is JUST my opinon. I have had lunesta and a series of other ones and I truly stand behind Ambien regarding it's effectiveness. The one side effect I struggle with is memory loss of some sort. There are studies currently being done. Most of all, Ambien and Benzo's are highly addictive, so please be conscious of that. However, if your quality of life is better on them, I am a strong supporter of that when taken as prescribed.
Something to consider, is look at your nighttime routine or the amount of stress in your life. When you do, it may really help you sleep better. I am the type of person, that come 7 or 8PM at night, I literally have to start to turn the lights down and gear down from my day. However, I am going through a very stressful period right now.
Great thread and I wish you better nights sleep ahead...you are not alone!

| Ambien Posted: 2/5/2009 11:22:48 AM | There is a new OTC sleeping aid, I think call Midnights?
It's actually called "MidNite". The active ingredient is melatonin and the MidNite product is a chew-able form of it.
I've had bouts of insomnia for 20+ years. After researching the heck out of it, I decided that taking melatonin is unlikely to harm me and potentially has a great deal of benefit beyond just a sleeping aid. Melatonin is a powerful antioxidant and may help prevent some cancers from developing.
As a sleep aid it definitely works for me. However I find that I still wake up after 3 or 4 hours so I keep MidNite next to my bed and pop another one to go back to sleep.
Many supplemental melatonin users have reported an increase in vivid dreaming - I'm one of them. Small price to pay in my book for the benefit of being able to take something that is natural, non-habit forming, no morning hangover, and that may have more health benefits beyond just a good night's sleep.

| Ambien Posted: 2/5/2009 6:52:54 PM | I went through a very traumatic experience in 1992. I was able to sleep for 2 or 3 hours a night if I was lucky after that for 15 years. I discovered Ambien in 2007. Now I can sleep for at least 5 hours a night. No nightmares or anything like that. Better living with chemistry. | |
