"Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of[f] your evil behavior. 22But now he has reconciled you by Christ's physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation— 23if you continue in your faith, established and firm, not moved from the hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven,..."

| My favourite quotes regarding religion. Posted: 4/12/2008 5:17:00 PM | A few quotes from the Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI:
“We are moving toward a dictatorship of relativism which does not recognize anything as definitive and has as its highest value one's own ego and one's own desires... The church needs to withstand the tides of trends and the latest novelties.... We must become mature in this adult faith, we must guide the flock of Christ to this faith.”
"An Adult faith does not follow the waves of fashion and the latest novelties."
"Having a clear faith, based on the creed of the church is often labeled today as fundamentalism. Whereas relativism, which is letting oneself be tossed and swept along by every wind of teaching, look like the only attitude acceptable to today's standards. "
"God has a great sense of humor."
"Humor is in fact an essential element in the mirth of creation. We can see how, in many matters in our lives, God wants to prod us into taking things a bit more lightly."
Quotes from my favorite author, G.K. Chesterton:
"One of the chief uses of religion is that it makes us remember our coming from darkness, the simple fact that we are created."
"The Bible tells us to love our neighbors, and also to love our enemies; probably because they are generally the same people."
"The Christian ideal has not been tried and found wanting; it has been found difficult and left untried."
"There are those who hate Christianity and call their hatred an all-embracing love for all religions."
"It has been often said, very truely, that religion is the thing that makes the ordinary man feel extraordinary; it is an equally important truth that religion is the thing that makes the extraordinary man feel ordinary."
"The man who lives in contact with what he believes to be a living Church is a man always expecting to meet Plato and Shakespeare to-morrow at breakfast. He is always expecting to see some truth that he has never seen before."
"At least five times . . . with the Arian and the Albigensian, with the Humanist sceptic, after Voltaire and after Darwin, the Faith has to all appearance gone to the dogs. In each of these five cases it was the dog that died."
"It is perfectly true that afterwards the ship sank; but it is far more extraordinary that the ship came up again: repainted and glittering, with the cross still at the top. This is the amazing thing the religion did: it turned a sunken ship into a submarine. The ark lived under the load of waters; after being buried under the debris of dynasties and clans, we arose and remembered Rome."

He has his heart opened wide to receive you. Then when you feel miserable inside, look at the cross and you will know what is happening. Suffering, pain, sorrow, humiliation, feelings of loneliness, are nothing but the kiss of Jesus, a sign that you have come so close that he can kiss you...Suffering, pain, humiliation - this is the kiss of Jesus." -Mother Theresa

This too is one of my favorites.
I have heard Deepak Chopra say that. Whether he originated it, I don't know.
"Suffering has to come because if you look at the cross, he has got is head bending down - he wants to kiss you - and he has both hands open wide - he wants to embrace you. He has his heart opened wide to receive you. Then when you feel miserable inside, look at the cross and you will know what is happening. Wow!! Thats quite a twisted perception. It is in line with what she wrote in letters that were published after her death; that for most of her life she couldn't feel or see the God that she was supposed to be serving and that this crisis of faith lasted most of her life. No surprise here given the above quote.

| My favourite quotes regarding religion. Posted: 4/12/2008 6:25:17 PM | Lex Luthor: I've been thinking about that prophecy. I've got a new interpretation. Want to hear it? Clark: Yeah. Lex Luthor: This Naman guy is supposed to come from the stars, have the power of ten men, and shoot fire from his eyes, right? Clark: It's just an allegory, Lex. Lex Luthor: I know. But if one person could do all that, he'd be a formidable enemy. He could conquer the world. He could become a tyrant if no one kept him in check. So I've been thinking...anybody who'd be willing to fight him would have to be pretty brave.
Lex Luthor: Do you believe there are aliens among us, Clark?
Lex Luthor: Clark, you were tied to a pole in the middle of a field. Even the Romans saved that for special occasions.
Miss Teschmacher: Lex, why do so many people have to die for the crime of the century? Lex Luthor: Why? You ask why? Why does the phone always ring when you're in the bathtub?
Lex Luthor: Do you believe a man can fly, Clark?
Lex Luthor: Is the world gonna be incinerated? Superman: No. It's the same as it's always been: on the brink. With good fighting evil.
Lex Luthor: If I understood my father's insanity I'd be a much happier man.
Lex Luthor: I am the villain of this story.
Lex Luthor: Trust me Clark, Our friendship is going to be the stuff of legend.
Lionel: I'm proud of you. Lex Luthor: [Sarcastically] Thanks, Dad. That means a lot coming from you.

Martin Luthor was Lex's great, great, great, great, great, great, etc. grandpa, also a reformer back in the day... arch nemesis of pope Kal-El III.. What's the problem with the quote? Lenin is supposed to have said something to that exact effect: http://thinkexist.com/quotes/vladimir_lenin/
“Give us the child for 8 years and it will be a Bolshevik forever”
http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/v/vladimir_lenin.html
Give me four years to teach the children and the seed I have sown will never be uprooted.
and
Give us the child for 8 years and it will be a Bolshevik forever.
Pretty much the same as what the jusuit Francis Xavier is alleged to have said: "Give me a child for for his first seven years and I'll give you the man"

So what's so funny?? Two quotes from two idealogical sources that couldn't be farther apart from each other...saying the exact same thing.
It's funny... ...but with an asterisk...
What's not funny is that war is once again becoming more and more cloaked in the robes of fundamentalist Christian, Jewish and Muslim religious crusades.
