| How many dates have you had of the Internet and still remain single?

The ones I have met are either in relationships with someone else and looking for a bit on the side ( I have had emails from their partners after the date) or they are looking for no strings sex with as many women as they can. As I am not looking for men like this I am still single. | |

Posted: 10/24/2006 5:46:23 PM | If you include other sites like Friendfinder, Match.com and Singlesnet, I have probably had about 35 meetings in 5 years of dating. However the only man I dated long term I met at the university I attend and not throught he internet... of the other men, I find that about 3 of them became long term friendships, a dozen werent interested, a dozen I didnt like, some just wanted sex and the rest were great sex for me... lol
Really to be honest I am beginning to wonder if the internet is such a great place to meet a mate but it does work for some people. (Alot of men use the internet for sex only and not serious dating relations). However, I know according to the John Tesh show that 7 percent of Americans find marriage partners this way... as there are over 300 million Americans, 7 percent turns out to be at least a few million or so... thats something at least.

Posted: 10/24/2006 6:14:52 PM | I agree with you Tricialvzfriends. I have no idea how many dates I've been on because of online dating sites. I moved from NW Illinois to Louisville for a guy I met online after dating for 6 months. Bad move...kinda, but I found out after moving, before we got married that he just wasn't for me, which made the move cheaper than a divorce or being unhappy.
I tend to talk to guys...email or IM for a couple days and then go out on a limb and meet them. Why waste time and drag it out and find out 6 months after you start talking they are not your type??? Chemistry is a huge thing and I can be comfortable talking on the phone or online, but meeting them in person is completely different. You cannot force something that is not there!
I want to get married...but I want to date and have fun...get to know each other first. The 2 dates I went on within the first week of joining were okay...but both guys talked about getting married!!!! Hello...I was younger, but not dumb! Trust me, I know what I am looking for in a man, and getting married after a first date is not it! I find that making friends with people tends to help. I have set up several friends from guys I have met, or their friends. When I sit back and go out and enjoy being single without looking is when someone comes looking for me!
GUYS...go out on a limb...message someone if you think they might be someone you are interested in. I hate doing all of the chasing! What is the worst that cold happen??? I may not be interested, but you never know...I could be the one! Same for all the women out there...sometimes if you get to know someone without putting up a wall, they may turn out to be the one you've been looking for the entire time!
I also think it's funny...at one time I was on 11 different sites...how many guys I keep getting matched with and are "compatable" with, but they never say even 'hi'...lol...you never know! | |

Posted: 10/24/2006 8:30:02 PM | 9 offline, one online (not PoF, but via a chatroom then AIM), and all have left me single. And I wouldn't call them all necessarily dates. Most were just dinner dates, and that was that. Only two should I say turned into plain friendships since that's all they turned out to be interested or ready for. But good friends they've stayed.
Neither do I see becoming anything more.
Of the 30+ I've tried to contact on PoF, none have ever contacted me back.
Two contacted me first, and we occasionally e-mail or chat as friends. Again nothing serious unless one moves to my neighborhood. Which at this point looks unlikely. | |

The 2nd guy I met for dinner from this site is very sweet. We had a ball, got along ,great made each other laugh. He even posted a testimonial to me. I was pleasantly surprised. Several of them were really cool dates and I had fun on all of
them, just no love connection.
I'd have to say its been a good experience and Ive had no bad ones at all.
I do truly believe that one can find their

Went on two dates this week. Both were with nice enough women and both were a fun time..but, until I find a "REAL" connection, I'm not gonna stop shopping. | |

Posted: 2/25/2007 4:00:14 PM | I've messaged with quite a few ladies over the last couple years here, had some good conversations, but no "dates" yet. A couple meetings fell through for various reasons, not on my part wholly, and we never got back to rescheduling, probably because the attraction wasn't there for me or them... and frankly, the geographical distances were a bit out of my comfort zone, which is another reason I wasn't proactive at pursuing them further.
I've met a few in person on another site, that being My****e, and have friends (which is what I want right now) because of it, good friends in fact. I'm meeting another this week for lunch or dinner.
I don't know why there is that dichotomy between here being slow for me and there being productive, but hey, I'll take whatever works!
This site is great though, and I like that they're proactive at adding new features and keeping up to date (pardon the pun). I'm sold.

Posted: 2/25/2007 4:18:56 PM | I have had many e-mails, too many to count, chatted with many, some aren't worth remembering, met 3 in person on one site I was on and 3 on here, been on here since May or June, met someone on here immediately, 4 months.relationship..
One year, relationship,too many miles apart , the others have dated once, but remain friends with all but one. we either e-mail or chat.
Talked to about 10 or so on the phone.
Don't have a clue how many dates I turned down, Writing faithfully to one I havn't met,
Met some wanderful female friends we write faithfully.Not really looking. expecting them to knock on my door, lol  | |

Posted: 2/25/2007 8:26:26 PM | I consider first meetings dates, per se. I've met some really great guys off of POF. I've only connected with and seriously dated one, and he was pretty awesome, though we didn't work out...mutual stuff, not because he was a freak or anything.
I've actually had good luck with this site. EHarmony set me up with Toothless Joe and the Severely Racist Guy. I don't know what I answered wrong on their personality thing, but I distinctly remember not including racist comments or a fear of dentistry. Oh, I forgot to add that the first month I was on EH there was not one match for me in the entire world...THE ENTIRE WORLD...talk about a downer.
Match was no better. There was this other site, some Christian one, but I only seemed to attract 18 yr olds from Iraq, Aphganistan and Gauna (sp?). Oh, and some extremely nutty ultra conservative religious kooks. I'm an "on my knees" Christian, but these guys had some MAJOR issues.
Now, to answer the original question, since I've gotten WAY off subject
I've met probably 10 men from this site. All have been complete gentlemen, well, except for one, but I had a bad feeling about him before we met and forgot to call and cancel the meet...didn't want to not show up. But he confirmed my original feelings, so all was not lost

Got to make a few new friends. Which is a good thing. Liker everyone else I'll keep on till I fine someone who likes me for me. | |

Posted: 2/26/2007 8:28:09 AM | No one really dates on the internet. We meet possible dates through the internet. The actual dating happens in real life.
My answer to the question: I have met, face-to-face, about seven guys through online dating in less than a year. Four I met through match.com between March and July of last year. Two I met through yahoo personals between last November and January of this year and one I met through Ok Cupid in late December. (I only joined POF a couple of weeks ago--if all goes as planned, I'll be meeting one guy from here this weekend.) Out of those I've met, I saw two of them for four or more dates each. (Indeed, I'm still casually dating one of them.)
During the same period I have connected with only one guy in real life. All in all (counting one-time meetings) I've been on 19 dates with eight different men since April of 06. If I had just been meeting men in real life, I would have had only three dates with one man. So "online dating" does help us meet a wider variety of people and get out more, at least in my experience.
Yeah, sometimes it's discouraging--especially when you've been e-mailing/im-ing for a while and it looks like something is going to come out of it, and then something ends it before you meet. However, I believe that if we use it as just one more way to connect with possible dates, and don't fool ourselves that it is going to give us instant access to the mate of our dreams, the online-dating option is a good one, especially for those of us who are busy in our lives and past the age of meeting in school or hanging out at bars. | |
